wahmbulance I know I'm at major risk for sounding like a too strigent nanny, but I'd like to introduce a discussion of which is open for opinions, comments and debate:
I've noticed that there is an increased usage of the words like "gay", "rape" and other terminology that, while used in jest or as a "description", is centered upon a rather touchy topic for some users.
I would like to know if Guild members would be alright if we put a BAN on the usage of these words in common, everyday commenting/discussion.
My goal here is not to police/censor everyone, but alert guild members to the fact that these terms are actually applicable to real Gaian users and sound dreadfully harsh and intolorant/hurtful, even if the person using the word has no intention of their use of the word(s) to be harmful to another user.
I'd like to hopefully FOSTER a sense of community and support within the Bacon Guild, centered around of course our love for the fatty, greasy foodstuff.
Please, feel free to carry out this discussion.

I agree that it can be hurtful, and demeaning. I also accept that people are the way they are((redundant)) and not many things will change that. I hope that when everyone reads this they will be more open to it, considering that it is our guild, and in essence we are a really nice package of bacon. I don't think i use those terms too often, but i can proof read what i put on here, so i will try to be nice.

ya....most of these words are used by me...fkin computer stop closing my window!!! GARHH!! ok, well i think that people should be able to say the language we want people should just accept that for who we are not who they want us to be.

*lol* thats right, you can't change the way people are. we can just hope that people will remember that some words are offensive to some people. i think there are only about three words i don't like to see or hear.
i suggest that if there is a word or phrase being said often that is offensive or hurtful, we should put it in here. we shouldn't really have to give a reason why, just say that it is an offensive thing.
i absolutely hate seeing and hearing the C-word(very offensive term for the vajayjay) depending on who says it, it can almost make me cry.

Personally I don't care at all what people say. What I DO care about is guild members (and Gaians in general) feeling alienated or verbally abused in some way, which is not cool. Plus, I don't want our guild to degenerate into something that may potentially violate the ToS. I'm all about keeping our forums clean if that's what it takes to make everyone feel at home here and keeps us out of trouble. But there's someone in our guild whom I think we may have a hard time with... and we probably won't be able to do anything about it.

i think the ban is a good idea. there are alot of diff types of people out there that could be very much insulted from one word that simply should not be said, me myself i am a Transgendered Woman, i was born a boy but have been turning into a girl for the past to years. those polls that have the option of "oh thats so gay" or whatnot are insulting to me, tghe ban i think would promote a more positve community and may just welcome more people to sign up.
What say everyone else about this?

What say everyone else about this? i would have to agree. i used to be a very heavy cusser, but two kids later, well it seems i don't use the nasty words (unless im upset) and in all reality its not that hard to use a different word....especially when you can delete and re-type.... i mean really. you can't delete IRL, but you can here. or if you really do feel it necessary to use a cuss word, excuse yourself. manners seem to be disappearing, maybe we can bring them back into use, with a side of bacon of course heart

aight everyone is correct in their own opinon. Politicaly correct commonly blah blah blah. Well here is an idea that i'm proposing, We do it like this 3 offensives and you get suspened or banned or kicked and what not. i personally don't like the word ****** neutral

Thank you so much Staff for the discussions. I'll leave this Sticky open for more members. I myself am not too offended by swearing, lol, but other words that are percieved as attacking an person's individuality.
Might I suggest a proposition? Perhaps we should ban only certain words from being used in the Guild. I'm thinking words more like:
1. gay/ghey/gey/gway/f**/f*****t/lesbo (or however someone will attempt to spell this word in order to get around policy),
2. c**t/p***y or other derogative slang terms for both female AND male genitelia (although what are your thoughts on "d**k/wanger," etc?)
3. rape/rapez etc.
4. retard/retarded/retardedz (this is a personal one for me)
5. racial slurs (this is against Gaia ToS in general).
6. slut/ho etc?
What does my lovely staff think/suggest should stay, and should go?
*(Sorry Soveh for having to use the C-word in front of you but for the sake of getting this message across to other users I feel being very upfront about what is acceptable and what is not acceptable needs to be stated explicitly so that users do not have the chance to make inappropriate excuses.)

We should pic drop you in here some time, if only to prove to the non-believers that it CAN be done. @ Vitahli - I propose we add a new word to the ban list: bacon. Hold on, let me explain. Bacon is a PRONOUN (yes, it gets paid!) in this guild, so we should be typing Bacon every time. Of course, I'm not really serious, since many of us don't know how to use the "shift" key. But maybe if you promote Soveh to the Karma Police, she could take the capital b into consideration? Put it in the same category as "please" and "thank you" and other niceties?
