Roland sat in the top floor of his gym. Not the top floor where he awaited challengers, but the top TOP floor that was his home. He was sitting at a table in the kitchen, eating. Arcane sat off to the side, eating from his own bowl. Suddenly Roland stood up, leaving his half-eaten bowl of cereal on the table, and walked into the living room. Once there, he stood shaking for a few moments, eyes closed, and head facing the floor. Fists were clenched at his sides tighter than his teeth were.
Arcane looked at Roland with sad interest. He had seen this before, plenty of times. Roland was a very angry person, despite all the good things in his life. Arcane didn't understand it, and simply wrote it up to the fact that a human's life was probably a lot harder than a trained pokemon. And although Arcane didn't understand it, he sympathized for Roland, because Roland was his trainer. The two shared a special bond together, he was Roland's first pokemon. Arcane remembered the time he first met Roland: A happy carefree youth whose concern for the well-being of a pokemon cost him a place to live. Even through that, though, Roland seemed happy... "My, how things have changed..." the Arcanine thought to himself.
Suddenly, Roland yelled out in frustration and sent his fist flying through the drywall. Arcane shook his head and looked at all the repairs that had been done on the walls already. "This is ridiculous! She switched sides again!? I love her, I really do, but sometimes she confuses me to no end. What the hell am I supposed to do? I can't fight her... if things come down to it, and we end up in a position where we have to fight... I'll have to walk away. No matter what anyone says, I won't fight her. I wish I could protect her as well, but... DAMNIT!" With that, Roland sent another fist through the wall. Roland then went back to staring at the floor through closed eyes for a second, then his eyes snapped back open.
Arcane didn't like the look on his master's face once he opened his eyes. The changes were subtle, but there, and anyone that knew how to read them would have been running away pissing their pants. Even Arcane backed away a few steps. This wasn't Roland anymore. Physically, yes, but not mentally. Mentally, Roland was off somewhere else, trying to find a happier place in time. This, what had taken over... was pure rage. Arcane didn't like it, but he'd remain faithful to his trainer, no matter what.
"Verin's the one that did all of this," Roland said calmly. "This is all Verin's fault. Kerri, Rishi... Ty, Snappy... Everyone who's suffered in all this, the suffering all stems from one source: Verin. I swear, I will see him defeated, no matter what." With that, Roland stormed out of his house and down to the bottom of his gym, then went off to hunt down Verin.
