I thought this might be an interesting thread to make, heh. Mainly here there will be shown the differences, and yet the similarity in two or more words...
For today it's "Heroin" and "Heroine"
Main Entry: her·o·in Function: noun Etymology: from Heroin, a trademark : a strongly physiologically addictive narcotic C21H23NO5 that is made by acetylation of but is more potent than morphine and that is prohibited for medical use in the U.S. but is used illicitly for its euphoric effects
Main Entry: her·o·ine Function: noun Etymology: Latin heroina, from Greek hErOinE, feminine of hErOs 1 a : a mythological or legendary woman having the qualities of a hero b : a woman admired and emulated for her achievements and qualities 2 a : the principal female character in a literary or dramatic work b : the central female figure in an event or period

I do however need your help members, of two (or more) terms that are perhaps similarly pronounced, or spelled but have two totally different definitions, or perhaps you might even have two words confused...
Well, I've got two for today, two terms that people often mistake for one another transsexual and hermaphrodite. I have met people who mistake these two very easily...so I shall supply definitions for each.
Main Entry: trans·sex·u·al Function: noun : a person who psychologically identifies with the opposite sex and may seek to live as a member of this sex especially by undergoing surgery and hormone therapy to obtain the necessary physical appearance (as by changing the external sex organs)
Main Entry: her·maph·ro·dite Function: noun Etymology: Middle English hermofrodite, from Latin hermaphroditus, from Greek hermaphroditos, from Hermaphroditos 1 : an animal or plant having both male and female reproductive organs 2 : something that is a combination of diverse elements

No problem, I'm happy to help...however, in the future, if you don't mind...try and keep it to at least two words that you might have mistaken...or sounds similar but are in fact different...that way it stays on topic. sweatdrop
