I looked at the calendar today and noticed an important conjunction: a Full Moon falls at the Solstice this year, a brightness in the night sky as we endure the longest night and await the lengthening days. There is something special about this....maybe there will be snow to further brighten the night, as, where I live, we had our first snow that stuck to the ground and collected today.

Sunday was the New Moon before the Solstice, the dark time of secrets before the unfolding of...what? A growing brightness, an enlightenment, a moment of clarity? and the sun will return.....
I am starting a two-week cycle of contemplation in the contrast of light and dark, the open and the mystic, the clear and the clouded. Nothing is ever quite so stark, however, as at the dark moon the falling snow proceeded to spread a lightness that no dark could succeed against. It is always just a bit bright out no matter how deep the night.
Yes, I have a foot of snow outside my window.....

I must admit I was quite excited to see the full moon coincided with Yule this year! I feel as though something special should be done that night to mark the event. However, I am not quite sure how I am going to be able to celebrate at all... In all honesty, I'm still adjusting to celebrating as a Wiccan. C:

and then, in the midst of the solstice there was also a lunar eclipse, a dark moment in the middle of one of the longest nights of the year. Certainly something to ponder, the relationship between the dark and the light, what we gain from each, the nature of knowledge and hope.
