The Nephilim are humans with angel blood in their veins.
The race of the Nephilim was created a thousand years ago when the Angel Raziel shared his blood with the first Shadowhunter, Jonathan. The task he set the race is to rid the world of demons and to maintain the peace between Downworlders. They must obey the Clave (their system of government), as well as the laws given to them by the Angel Raziel that are found in the Grey Book.
Nephilim use a tool called a stele to mark runes on their body. These runes are what make the Shadowhunters stronger than regular humans. For example, the iratze rune is a healing rune. The closer to the heart a rune is drawn, the more powerful it is. They can also use Glamour to hide themselves from Mundanes (humans).
They have a secret city called Alicante but most Nephilim live in Institutes everywhere around the world where they are stationed to fight off Demons.

Character Name: Archer Lydon  Candles to blow out: 17 The Day of My Creation/Birth: July 4th Personality: He's fun to be around though he can be rather sarcastic at times. He loves music and plays the electric guitar and drums. History: Archer grew up in Alicante. It's where he began his Shadowhunter training. When he was fifteen his parents were killed by demons. Rather than staying in Alicante he decided to go to the New York Institute to finish his training. He didn't want to stay in the city that reminded him of his parents everywhere he went. Alejandro 'Alejo' Mendez Candles to blow out: 19
The Day of My Creation/Birth: December 22
Personality: Alejandro is laid back and lethargic when there are no demons to slay. However, when he's in uniform he becomes someone entirely concentrated on his work.
History: Alejandro was born in New York and was raised and trained in the NY Institute by his parents in the ways of the Nephilim. His parents were both killed by a Greater Demon a little less than a year ago. He greives their loss, but is gradually getting used to being without them. He's never been to Alicante and hopes to visit and/or live there someday, but for now he's content with living in New York.
He spends most of his time training, working out, partying at Club Pandemonium, or, if worst comes to worst, reading in the Institute's library. He cannot cook. Be warned.
Weapon(s) of Choice: He has a sword that he keeps sheathed at his waist while in uniform and two seraph blades

Melanie Nightshade  Candles to blow out: 17
The Day of My Creation/Birth: Febuary 27
Personality: She's a tough Tomboy type, Will be the first to charge into a battle and the last one to leave. Cares more about the safty of others then herself. Awesome fighter, Sucks at the runes. She doesn't trust people very easily and is very skiddish around people. She has a short temper at times but can be a really good friend you gain her trust.
History: Was born in Alicante and was moved to the Institute in Boston when she was 5 because her parents we put in charge. She lived there for 7 years before She Alone was transfered to New York for an Insident with another one of the kids there that no one seems to know what happened. Even when asked she will skid around the subject or blow up at whoever asks.

Kiana CullerA single rose left to remember as a single tear fall from her eye... ...Seems it's only been a moment since the angels took him from her arms. Candles to blow out: 17 The Day of My Creation/Birth: December 23rd Personality: She seems to be happy, cheerfully, and very upbeat. Nobody would ever guess that on the inside she's torn apart. Despite all that she's been through Kiana's completely unselfish. History: Kiana was an only child. Her parents were both Shadow Hunters and they lived in Alicante. Her mom left when she was four years old and never came back. Her dad hated Kiana. He blamed her for her mother leaving. It wasn't long after her mother's departure that her father began to beat her. When she was a child the abuse was only occasinal and limited to a few cuts and bruises but as she reached her teenage years he hurt her worse an more frequently. Kiana suffered silently. Alone. Yet somehow, depite her pain she was an optomistic, cheerful, upbeat person, and was always completely unselfish in every way. Nobody ever suspected that she was torn apart on the inside. When she was fourteen she met a fellow Shadow Hunter in training, a boy named Josh Caper. They became fast friends. It wasn't long before Josh began to question Kiana's collection of bruises, assortment of scars, and numerous fresh cuts and burns. Kiana had never actually been demon hunting so her wounds were out of place. He never pushed her for answers but he did express his concern about her injuries. It took a few months but Kiana came to trust Josh more than she'd ever trusted anyone before. She told him everything. She told him all the things that she'd been too terrified to tell anyone before. He knew exactly what to say to make her feel less afraid, less empty, less alone. She fell in love with him. Josh helped her through the next two years. He was the one thing she held on to when she thought she couldn't go on. When she was with him she could imagine that everything was perfect, but of course it just couldn't last. She was sixteen when it happened. An old friend of her parents ran into Kiana's father at work. He gave him news about Kiana's mother. She was married now, with two kids. She was happy. Blissfully happy. Hearing this information about his ex-wife pushed Kiana's father over the edge of insanity. That day when Kiana walked through the door with Josh after school her father had a gun in his hand. Josh realized at once what was happening. He stepped in front of Kiana as her father pulled the trigger. The bullet went straight into his heart. Kiana caught Josh as he fell back against her and watched as her father brought the gun up to his own head and pulled the trigger again. The neighbors called the cops when they heard the gunshots. The police arrived to find Kiana holding Josh's dead body, drenched in his blood, and sobbing uncontrollably as she screamed his name over and over again as if she desperately hoped that she could call him back from the dead. At Josh's funeral she cried throughout the entire service. She remained standing at his grave long after everyone else had gone. Her fingers traced the words on his headstone. Josh had been Kiana's best friend, her boyfriend, her confident, her comforter, her everythng. Without him she was completely alone and broken. She wanted to give in to the overwhelming grief and agony but she didn't. She knew that Josh wouldn't have wanted that. So Kiana dried her tears, held her head high, and made the decision not to give up. She decided to move to the institute in New York and start a new life keeping the world safe from demons. Personality: First of all, I am a total sweetheart. Sure, it's in my Shadowhunter blood to kick some a**, but it's in my regular teenager blood to actually care about people. However, I tend to follow my own rules. If someone says to stay still, I can't help but squirm around. So back to being caring, you would think it gets in the way of being a spy. I am here to tell you that you are wrong, my friend. My kindness only applies to allies, friends, and family. Otherwise, I won't hesitate. I tend to stick to the background and blend in when I don't want to be seen. But if a person who sticks out of the crowd is needed, I'm usually the girl to call for. I ain't a bad liar, quite the opposite really. However, I usually have some trust issues. Sometimes I end up putting my trust in the wrong people, only to be stabbed in the back afterward. I'm an okay actress, being able to fake different accents and voices.
History: I was born in Alicante and moved to New York shortly after my birth. My parents had named me Gina Levanna,which literally means Angel to Rise. My parents were NOT very subtle at all. Anyway,I moved to New York with them and lived in a little apartment with my 5 brothers and sisters,overlooking Main Street. One day,I decided to wander off and discovered my angel blood. I packed up my measly possessions and moved into the institute.
Weapon(s) of Choice: Bow and Arrow plus a pair of twin seraph blades.

The Day of My Creation/Birth: 12/21/1994
Personality: She may seem very quiet at first, but she is actually very oppinionated and confident. She never thought she was very courageous, but she is actually very strong. She has never been concieded and never brags and she is always very polite. Her mother taught her to play the piano and she also sings as well though she doesn't usually let anybody hear her.
History: Her parents were very proper people, but one day her father and mother were both attacked by a group of forsaken. Since she was 16 years old she was able to get a job in the mundane world and support herself enough to buy a small apartment. Still she feels empty inside from loosing all of her family, but she does her best to live for the sake of living.
Weapon(s) of Choice: Steele, and a retractable seraph blade.

The Day of My Creation/Birth: June 8th, 1995
Personality: She is very rebellious and daring. She will never back down from a challenge and she can sometimes be overly confident. Also she will always tell the truth whether it will hurt someone or not. She can be very careless sometimes, but I guess that is what makes her so daring. Also she was trained in dancing for a wile, but she will never be refered to as a ballerina.
History: Her mother died from a vampire when Tessa was 13 and her father resulted in abusing her out of anger. Tessa got fed up with her father so she decided to run away and find an institute to stay in. She found herself in New York and is living out her life to the fullest, but she has done some recless things such as getting drunk and getting into trouble.
Weapon(s) of Choice: Steele, seraph blade, and she has some skill in archery.

Hunter ReaganCandles to blow out: 18The Day of My Creation/Birth: August 31stPersonality: She is a very serious and quiet person. She may look beautiful on the outside, but she does keep her good side reserved. Though, she can be friendly, but that is usually only during times of work or fighting. History: Hunter was born into a well breed family with many connections to the Shadowhunters. They lived inside Allicante, but weren't as active as most families. Hunter was a rebel child as a kid and would run away often because of how her mother treated her like a useless child. When Hunter was 9, she left Allicante to resign herself in New York.  Veronica Ballas Candles to blow out: 17 The Day of My Creation/Birth: October 30 Personality: Veronica is very fiery yet strong willed, aggressive yet opinionated, easily jealous and yet a hopeless romantic. History: Veronica found out she was a shadow hunter by accident. She moved in with her grandfather when she was nine years old where she was sexually assaulted constantly. She then ran away from home when she was ten and began seeing demons. She thought it she was hallucinating from lack of sleep and lack of nourishment. She was being attacked and was almost killed when she started attacking. When it was finally dead, she found out she was a shadow hunter and has been true to her role ever since, but doesn't like talking about her past and won't talk about her life before the age of eleven. Weapon of choice: Twin seraph blades Don't forget:Veronica is an only child and is left handed. She has a birthmark of a scorpion on her left hip that is always mistaken for a tattoo. Personality: If you'd have met him about 5 years earlier, he'd have been kind, but ever since the incident with his late wife he's been depressed and unable to handle any fooling around. Nowadays he's always serious and he never jokes around. Prideful of himself and his fellow Nephilim. He doesn't like downworlders, but he tolerates them because of the Accords. He and Alejandro do not get along at all; but he doesn't mind Archer.
History: Both his parents were Nephilim that lived in the London Institute, but when Cassian was born they moved to Alicante. From the time he was only a child, Cassian always dreamed of living with downworlders in a different part of the world. Due to this dream, he moved from his parents in Alicante when he was 18 and he went to live in the London, England Institiute. Just a year after moving there, he met and fell in love with a fellow Nephilim named Jessica Blake. They were married six months after they met and they were placed in charge of the London Institute when the previous caretaker died. They'd been married 4 years when a tragedy took place. They were demon hunting and came across a demon that could shapeshift. The demon took the form of Jessica and grabbed her, pulling her into the cover of the forest. When Cassian found them, one of them was crouched on the ground crying loudly and the other was just standing and crying silently. He didn't know which one was the real one so he took his guess and shot the one on the ground at point blank. There was a quick and loud scream before she breathed her last breath. The surviving Jessica laughed, transformed back into her demon self and disappeared into the forest. It was then he realized his mistake. He tried everything he could to revive her, but nothing worked. In tears, he carried her corpse back to the Institute. It was after her death that Cassian found out she was pregnant with their first child, who'd died along with Jessica. For days he stayed in his room and cried, coming out to get something to eat only once. He wouldn't talk to anyone because he didn't want to tell them anything. A week after this incident, he decided to move to America and live in the Institute of New York to escape his memories of his late wife. He now keeps all his emotions locked away. He's vowed to himself that he'd never fall in love again.

Personality:
Destrey is the loud, rambunctious one of the twins, always having a loud opinion that is opposite of his brother's. He is easily excitable and hyper, which is the exact opposite of his twin.
Taylor is the silent, smart one of the pair, rarely speaking if at all possible. He's gentle and kind to those who know him, always willing to lend a helping hand. However, if he doesn't know you, he'll be shut-down, cold, and sullen.
History:
Destrey and Taylor did not grow up in one specific place, moving around constantly. No, not with their parents, but with a variety of foster families, kidnappers, and slave owners. Their parents had died protecting them before they were old enough to comprehend [i.e. two days old]. Sometimes, they wish they could remember, but all they can glimpse from the past is the flash of a shining silver blade and two screams of terror.
Taylor pretty much shut down after their last family tried to kill them. It was a record, as usually they waited at least a little bit before deciding. Destrey knew he was the shyer one, the one that was easily swayed towards the right decision, but didn't accept it. At least until he came up with the brilliant idea of finding an Institute and asking for sanctuary. They had know they were Nephilim forever, but never said it allowed. It was inked into their shoulders,with the mark of the angel that had touched them both. As they were abandoned in New York, they went to the nearest one. However, neither was the same after. Destrey more than made up for his brother's silence by talking more than enough for the both of them.
Weapon(s) of Choice:
Destrey carries around a personal arsenal of seraph blades, only using his bow if needed. Unlike his brother, he loves fighting.
Taylor flaunts around a golden whip, choosing it as his weapon of choice. However, he is also very skilled with the bow & arrow, sword, and seraph blades. If he could chose, he wouldn't be a fighter.
Don't forget: Taylor and Destrey are twins, but they are exact opposites.
