This morning I woke up to a cherry barb with red, swollen lips. Still working on figuring out what it is, but I'm worried. I hope it's not like...columnaris...I'm thanking my lucky stars I decided to quarantine these fish before adding them to my tank.

Not sure what it is, but it doesn't look good! D:
I've never had a sick fish x.x I guess I'm just lucky. Funny part is that I rarely change my water and when I do it's not much... Perhaps it has something to do with my 823059832 plants? I really need to change the water, actually... x_x Just need some water conditioner.

I rarely have sick fish either, usually only new additions that have come to me sick, which is why I've been quarantining my new fish. And yes, plants help tremendously.

Yupp, I salted this morning. So far still can't find out what it is. It seems to be getting worse, but so far the other fish are unaffected.

Maybe you should move her out of that tank? You could put her in another small tank, or a very large jar of some kind, and do daily water changes... Just thinking, as I have no idea how to go about this! gonk

No, if I have to treat her with meds, it's better to treat them all because they've already been exposed to whatever she has. I might have to run and get some Jungle so my neighbor can have it on hand while I'm gone.

Vanilla eXee No, if I have to treat her with meds, it's better to treat them all because they've already been exposed to whatever she has. I might have to run and get some Jungle so my neighbor can have it on hand while I'm gone. That is true... Since we have no idea what it is, it is best to treat it like its conageous. I would go ahead and get something with a wide treatment range. I think Tetra makes a tab medication that treats (just about) everything... I saw it at PetSmart, but I didnt really look at it because it was like 8:30, I was dead tired, and just wanted some fin rot meds so I could go home and sleep lol

Hello, I've been without internet for the most part while I've been gone. I just checked facebook and my neighbor says neither of the female barbs made it. Hasn't seemed to affect the neons so it must have been either something wrong with them, or something that only effects cherry barbs. I hadn't been able to find much else before I left.

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I tried looking online to see what it could have been and I hope it wasn't what I think it was. The term is bacterial hemmoragic septicemia and it is highly contagious to other fish through contaminated water and sick fish. Check out this link below. It could give you some more info. I wish the best of health for your other little guys.... Bacterial Hemmoragic Septicemia -Hisaki Yuki001

Thank you for your sympathies. It's probably not BHS, just because the neons that were being quarantined in the same tank never caught it, and they are perfectly healthy to this day.

That's good to hear... I'm glade your other guys made it. ^_^ I used to have three beautiful comets in a 20 gallon that lived happily until they were three. Back then I didn't know anything about ick and decided to bring home another feeder fish that I liked. When they all got sick, by the time I found out what it was and started treating them, it was too late. I cried. If I would've known enough about a quarantine tank back then they would probably still be here. Anyways, I'm glade you took the right precautions.^_^
