I have always wondered how someone made evolving items, more code wise. What is that code we are waiting to be fixed?? Did you make it? In the past when I made evolving items, I had to replace the image for each stage of the pet manually via Photobucket, it's tedious but it worked. And now, with the script my boyfriend had written, pets are able to evolve automatically. The script is written in PHP and uses MySQL databases to store the owner names and their respective pets.
Basically the script goes like this, we pre-specify the amount of time each stage will last, and after the elapsed time had passed, the current image will rotate to the next stage - in this case, another image. Once it reaches the final stage, the rotation stops, and the last image permanently stays. The addition of the status bars requires more advanced coding, and are separate from the image itself (although they appear together). Same thing goes to the Owner text.
As for the code that needed to be fixed, they were for the status bar, which was a pretty annoying portion to code because it is so time-based (e.g. when to decrease a bar, etc.). There are still some minor bugs that need to be fixed involving the status bar, but as they don't interfere with the user experience, we are working on them slowly. : pWow! I always knew it was hard work but I never expected it to be so trying. Is there any guides or tutorials you would suggest for someone wanting to dig a little deeper in the subject?? It has always interested me, even more so after I learned how to make imagemaps. My goodness, I am so sorry for the late reply. I personally don't have any guides or tutorials online, as I mostly use actual PHP and MySQL textbooks. But the first step before digging into creating a script like the bubbopets, it's better to get a solid grasp of how PHP and MySQL works, in addition to some scripting knowledge in those two languages. I would suggest that you start by learning some basics with the help of this page. Of course, googling your questions along the way would help too.
