So, today TekTek has been reported as containing malware or "bad software." Browsers like Firefox and Google Chrome have blocked any page containing a tool from view. Because of this, Gaia has currently removed TekTek from it's whitelist. But do we know what to do to prevent infection?
First off, if you have any TekTek tool in your sig, profile, have the toolbar, etc. - REMOVE IT. Next, change your images to whitelist only. Then take a look at this: I found a thread that helps you block anything from TekTek here. You might wanna look at this sticky if you think you may be infected.
So let's discuss the following: - More tips on how to stay safe - Did you get infected? - How vulnerable TekTek seems to be - What you and the admins/others have to say about it - WHAT THE ******** HAPPENED?

Apparently one of their ads contained malware and hijacked the toolbar, tools, etc. This happened last summer, too; one of the ads contained trojans. When will they learn ads aren't safe? gonk

They buy the ads from google. Gaia does the same damn thing.
Again, google's just being a ******** and people are paying for it.

Uh....I have the tool bar and nothing's gone wrong for my pc. I'm using firefox too.... Then again, I don't use tektek all that often for avi's, mostly just for the text color thing.

I suggest you remove it anyways and run a scan. Trojans like to make themselves unknown and work in the background. confused @ Eve: Don't blame Google. If anything, blame the companies that create the trojan-contained ads. @ Okage: Which is why I block every single ad. I don't trust them to be safe, and they're eyesores.

AHHH. GAIA'S CENSORING THE WORD NOW. FUUUUUU- Never mind. Gaia's explained it.Panagrammic t*kt*k is not a new curse word, nor are we going to start cracking down on any tektekbear pictures that we see. We've temporarily masked any references to t*kt*k while they resolve their blacklist issues -- Google was starting to penalize us for the high number of linkages. We'll unmask it as soon as t*kt*k resolves the situation.

Gaia's also said that TekTek seems to have resolved its problems. Nonetheless, be careful when using it. I don't want any lost computers. D:
