This thread will guide you through the process of creating your Pokemon Trainer's profile. The profile will be a record of many things related to your character including your character's name, stats, equipment, and various other bits of information. All of these will be explained below. Once you've completed your profile, you will post it for approval in the Trainer Profile Approval thread.

You should read through this entire thread before you begin creating your character.
PostPosted: Tue Dec 07, 2010 8:47 am

Basic Information

This will be the first section of your profile. It will include information that relates to the physical aspect of your character such as their name, age, and gender.

Character Name: This will be your Pokemon Trainer's name, it doesn't have to be your Gaia name.
Age: Your character's age. Pokemon Trainers may begin their journey at the age of ten, so that is the minimum age that you must take. Beyond that, the sky is the limit. If you want your character to be eighty years old, then go right ahead.
Gender: Male or Female
Physical Description: A basic physical description of your Trainer. You should at least include hair color, eye color, clothing, and body style: thin, chubby, athletic, ect. If you want your character to have any other notable features, you may feel free to include those.
Personality: A brief description of your character's personality. You could also include a bit about how they treat their Pokemon if you like.

Determining your Starting Pokemon

The next piece of information on your character's profile will determine which Pokemon you will start with. In this game, you may choose one of three options for a starting Pokemon:

1. You are a trainer from Pallet Town. You will be able to select one of the original three starters for your first Pokemon: Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle. This is the most predictable of the three options.

2. You are a member of one of the Pokemon gyms in Johto or Kanto, excluding the dragon gym in Johto's Blackthorn city. Your starting Pokemon will be a randomly selected non-legendary Pokemon who shares the gym's elemental affinity, and you will receive the lowest evolutionary form of that Pokemon. The only Pokemon who will be in this random calculation will be those whose lowest evolutionary form have that element. For instance, if you selected to be a member of the Vermilion city gym, Pikachu would be one of the Pokemon who would be included in the random calculation, because it is electric. Even though the random selection chose Pikachu, you would get Pichu, since it's Pikachu's lowest evolution form and it is also an electric type. However, a Pokemon such as Jolteon wouldn't be included because its lowest evolutionary form is Evee, who isn't an electric type. This option is a little risky, as you don't get to select a specific Pokemon, but you will at least be able to pick a type to begin with. The Blackthorn gym has been excluded because it shouldn't be so easy to obtain a dragon, as they are all quite powerful. Fossil Pokemon will also be excluded from this option. Refer to the list at the bottom of this post in order to see the gyms you may pick from.

3. You are a citizen from a Johto or Kanto town of your choice. Your starter will be randomly selected from every non-legendary Pokemon, including fossil Pokemon and dragons. Like the previous option, you will receive the lowest evolutionary form of the Pokemon that has been selected. This is by far the most risky option, but may also be the most rewarding if you get lucky.

Hometown: When you are creating your profile, you will fill this spot in with one of three things, "Trainer from Pallet Town" to select option one, "Gym member from (insert city of your choice)" to select option two, or "Citizen from (insert city of your choice)" to select option three. This will tell the crew member who is checking your profile which starter option you have selected.

Kanto Gyms
Pewter Gym - Rock Pokemon
Cerulean Gym - Water Pokemon
Vermilion Gym - Electric Pokemon
Celadon Gym - Grass Pokemon
Fuchsia Gym - Poison Pokemon
Saffron Gym - Psychic Pokemon
Cinnabar Gym - Fire Pokemon
Viridian Gym - Ground Pokemon

Johto Gyms
Violet Gym - Flying Pokemon
Azalea Gym - Bug Pokemon
Goldenrod Gym - Normal Pokemon
Ecruteak Gym - Ghost Pokemon
Cianwood Gym - Fighting Pokemon
Olivine Gym - Steel Pokemon
Mahogany Gym - Ice Pokemon

There will be no do-overs when it comes to randomly selecting Pokemon for your starter. You have been given the safe option of selecting one of the three starters in Pallet, so consider the other two options at your own risk! Besides, you can always capture new Pokemon.

Character Stats

This section of your profile will contain the stats of your Pokemon Trainer. These will determine what sorts of things your Trainer is skilled at, and they are also part of what you must consider when you want your Trainer to enter one of the various classes in the game. The classes will be explained more clearly in the section below this one.

The following is a list of the stats and a brief description of what they do.

Strength: This stat determines how strong your character is. It will be used to determine whether or not they are able to move things, and will also determine how much damage your Trainer can deal. Your Trainer is capable of fighting as well.
Dexterity: The speed and nimbleness of your Trainer. This will affect how well your Trainer is able to evade attacks that are made against them personally. Wild Pokemon will not hesitate to attack Trainers directly if the wild Pokemon feel that it is in their best interest to do so.
Constitution: How tough your trainer is when it comes to taking hits. This stat will determine the Hp of your Trainer.
Intelligence: This stat determines how smart your Trainer is. It will be especially useful when attempting to discover information about a given area, event, or Pokemon.
Wisdom: Wisdom will be tied directly to how adept your Trainer is at staying aware of their surroundings. Trainers will often be required to make a Perception check, which determines whether they notice a significant event or not, and the Wisdom stat will assist with this roll.
Charisma: This will be a measure of your Trainer's people skills. It will be useful when your player is attempting to negotiate with an NPC, lie, barter with a shopkeeper, or perform some other kind of action of this sort.

Hp: This stat is unique in that you won't be able to distribute points into it. It is determined by your Constitution stat, and will measure the life energy of your character. If your Trainer is dealt damage, you will subtract that damage from their Hp. If their Hp reaches zero, then their Pokemon will return to their Pokeballs and that Trainer will be unable to post until their team has taken them to a Hospital, not a Pokemon Center. While Pokemon Centers are free to use most of the time, Hospitals will typically charge a hefty fee. To determine your Hp, multiply your Constitution stat by five. NOT your Constitution Mod.

When creating your character, you will be able to distribute 64 points into your Base Stats. When you are distributing stats in the beginning, every stat must have at least 6 points placed into it, and no more than 14 points may be assigned to any single stat. Once your Trainer begins leveling, you will be able to add additional stats to them and these stats may be placed wherever you like, even if it raises them over 14 points.

Once your stat points have been distributed, you will need to calculate what the Modifier (Mod for short) is for each of your stats. A Mod is the number that you will add to your rolls when your character is actually attempting to do something with one of their stats. As mentioned before, each stat will have its own Mod. In order to determine what the individual stat's Mod is, you will use one of three simple formulas:

1. If a stat has ten points in it, its Mod is zero.

2. If a stat has more than ten points, you subtract ten from it, divide that number by two, and always round the final number down to a whole number in order to determine the Mod.

3. If the number is under ten, you merely subtract ten from it. You can have a negative Mod, this will merely mean that rolling for certain things will be more difficult for your character.

Trainer Features (Feats)

Trainer Features (Feats for short) are abilities that your character may gain once they meet the prerequisites for them. These abilities are vast in number and have a variety of functions. Some of these abilities help to strengthen your Pokemon, others assist the Pokemon breeding process, and some even allow your Trainer to use moves against Pokemon or other Trainers. These are just a few of the possibilities that come along when your character begins learning Feats.

While your character will most likely be able to gain Feats right away, most of them have the prerequisite of specializing in a specific class. Character classes are explained in the following section. This next section will point you in the direction of where to find specific information about each of the classes, and the list of Feats will be found in the same location as the list of classes.

Introduction to Pokemon Trainer Classes

When you create your character, they will start with the title, Pokemon Trainer. This is the first and most basic class that a character will ever be in. Classes are areas of specialty that will grant your character access to various features. Once your character gains a level, they will be able to enter a new class in place of gaining a new feature, as long as they meet the prerequisites for that class.

There are two kinds of classes, Trainer Classes and Advanced Classes. Trainer classes have a broad range of features that allow a character to become adept in a general area of Pokemon. Each Trainer Class has at least five Advanced Classes that concentrate on more specific areas of that Trainer Class. For instance, a character may choose to enter the Trainer Class known as Ace Trainer. This Trainer Class focuses on features that improve your Pokemon's battling skills. After taking up this Trainer Class, a character may choose to eventually specialize in one of its Advanced Classes such as Stat Ace, which has features that focus on enhancing a single stat of the character's Pokemon, or a different Advanced class such as Type Ace, which allows the character to specialize in a single Pokemon element. You may only take each Trainer class one time, but some Advanced Classes state that they may be taken more than once.

A character may take up to three Trainer Classes and/or Advanced Classes. Since all Advanced Classes require a character to be in a certain Trainer Class, the character's options will look like one of the following examples:

1. They may take up three different Trainer Classes, never pursuing a specialty in any of the three Trainer Classes.
2. Two Trainer Classes and one Advanced Class in one of those Trainer Classes, choosing to find an expertise in an area of one of the Trainer Classes chosen.
3. One Trainer Class and two Advanced Classes of that Trainer Class, choosing to become adept at the class they choose by mastering two aspects of the Trainer Class.

For a detailed list of the Trainer Classes, Advanced Classes, and their prerequisites, you may visit the Classes thread in the Game System sub-forum. Please note that some Classes will affect your Trainer's Stats. If your Constitution Stat ever changes because of this, you will need to remember to update your Hp. The following is a trimmed down list of the seven Trainer Classes. This should give you a general idea of what each of them may do for your character.

Ace Trainer
These trainers are dedicated battlers who have studied how to maximize battle experience. They can maximize their Pokemon’s attacks and find weaknesses in a foe’s Pokemon normally immune or resistant to their Pokemon’s attacks. They also have features which increase the amount of experience their Pokemon will gain in every fight. Each battle is filled with passion and each Pokemon trained by an Ace Trainer may realize their full battle potential and be the very best they can be.
Advanced Classes: Chaser, Enduring Soul, Frontier Battler, Gym Battler, Stat Ace, Tag Battler, Type Ace

Breeder
Some trainers realize the value of raising a Pokemon from a young age in order to build a better bond with their allies and friends. Breeders emphasize the importance of raising a Pokemon from birth, not as a friend, but as their own children. Breeders hatch eggs very quickly and can actually coerce their Pokemon to produce multiple eggs. The most noticeable talent a breeder shows is the fact that their Pokemon are naturally born with more power then the average Pokemon. Some even grow more powerful then any other in its species. Their Pokemon are born with the courage and strength to pull them through any situation.
Advanced Classes: Chef, Evolver, Hatcher, Medic, Pusher, Trader

Capture Specialist
The capture specialist is a talented mechanic. They intimately know the technology implemented in any type of Poke Ball and can improve their capture rates with a small bit of tweaking. Even after a wild pokemon breaks a poke ball after a failed attempt at capture, a Capture Specialist can quickly rebuild a poke ball with very little effort or expense. A Capture Specialist’s natural and one true calling is finding every wild and adding them to his or her collection. The mastery of poke ball knowledge makes it easier for a Capture Specialist to catch them all.
Advanced Classes: Apricorn Smith, Artificer, Collector, Engineer, Maniac, Poké Ball Designer

Martial Artist
Some trainers physically exceed some pokemon in hand-to-hand combat. Their mastery of the Martial Artist is unparalleled by the untrained, random attempts of assault performed by any other trainer. They can take out other trainers with little effort, and their pokemon benefit from their exploits as well. The Martial Artist has a natural affinity for the Fighting, Steel, Rock and Ground types of pokemon and can better train them to use their attack to their full potential.
Advanced Classes: Aura User, Black Belt, Juggler, Massage Therapist, Ninja, Weapons Master

Psychic
Not every human in the Pokemon World is born with equal natural abilities. Psychics are born with supernatural powers. They have a natural affinity for the Dark, Ghost and Psychic type pokemon. They can telekinetically move objects and telepathically enter the minds of others. They can emphatically figure out exactly what their pokemon need, telepathically negotiate with people or enter the minds of pokemon to communicate with the wild itself.
Advanced Classes: Air Adept, Clairsentient, Earth Shaker, Empath, Fire Breather, Healer, Hex Maniac, Influential, Rain Maker

Ranger
Unlike your average denizen in the world, who tends to the capture and battling of pokemon, Rangers are an elite, trained force of authority who take on the responsibility of maintaining balance and peace. A ranger’s duty is to protect and befriend both human and pokemon alike, usually preferring to enlist the aid of pokemon by friendship rather than capturing them. To a Ranger, pokemon are not measured by how strong they are; a well-placed Mudkip is as good as a Blastoise. It is also common to see a Ranger running across a town, with four untamed pokemon in tow, towards a burning building about to collapse and emerge from the building shortly with everyone alive with the fire extinguished. Rangers exist to better the world, and as one you’re sure to do just that.
Advanced Classes: Captain, Detective, Navigator, Rider, Special Operations Member

Researcher
While most trainers aim to be the best, Researchers aim to know the most. While they lack the physical advantage other trainers might, they have studied for many years prior to the beginning of their journey and have retained a vast amount of knowledge relating to most pokemon all over the world. They know many things relating to a pokemon’s natural moveset, their habitat, and even the location of several pokemon – just by name. A powerful trainer can help a pokemon find the power that’s inside; a Researcher knows the power that’s inside before he or she even captures a pokemon.
Advanced Classes: Cryptozoologist, Petrologist, Photographer, Professor, Scientist, Watcher

Leveling-up your Trainer

In order for your Pokemon Trainer to improve their stats, gain new features, or enter a new class, they will need to level-up. Every Trainer begins at level 0. Once your Trainer gains a level, they will be awarded a varying amount of Feats and Stats. Whenever your Trainer levels, please refer to the Trainer Level-Up Chart, which is located in the Game System sub-forum. This chart will explain how many feats and stats your character will gain when they reach their next level. If your character gains a Feat Point on a Level-Up, they may either choose one Feat that they meet the prerequisites for, or they may use that Feat point to enter a trainer class that they meet the prerequisites for. Unless you take the Feat known as "Hey guys, watch this", you MUST spend your Feat point, you may not save them up unless you have a Feat that allows you to do so.

Unlike Pokemon, Trainers don't receive any form of experience points. In order for a Trainer to gain a level, they will have to achieve some sort of noteworthy event. The following list details the various events that are required in order for your trainer to gain a level.

1. When you gain a Badge from any Gym Leader.
2. When you gain a Ribbon you have not earned before in a Contest.
3. If you can defeat a region’s Elite Four and gain a Hall of Fame Ribbon, you gain four levels.
4. If you can defeat a Frontier Brain, the Symbol they award you will gain you two levels.
5. For every ten Pokemon you obtain, you will gain a level. If one of Pokemon evolves, both of their stages in their evolutionary line will be counted towards this count. When you trade a Pokemon away, replace the Pokemon you traded away with the Pokemon you gained for this count unless you own two of the Pokemon you traded away. This is to prevent a party of Trainers from trading and then trading back, just to increase the count of “owned Pokemon”.
6. For every twenty-five Pokemon you identify with your Pokedex, you will gain a level. This is not a shared total with all of the Trainers in your party. You must actually use your Pokedex, to add to this total. Pokemon are everywhere! Be sure to always Pokedex the new ones!
7. If you do something that a crew member believes noteworthy, they may award you a level at that time.

On a side note, remember to update your Hp if you add any Stat Points to your Constitution Stat. The formula is [(Constitution Stat)*(5)] = Total Hp.

Please never ask for a Trainer level. They will be given out to those who rightfully earn them.

Pokedex

Each Trainer will begin the game with a Pokedex. These handy devices will catalog and describe any Pokemon that they are aimed at. Your character's Pokedex will keep track of two values:

Seen: This will be amount of Pokemon that you have cataloged in your Pokedex. Your character will know their species name, elemental affinity, complete move set (both learned and not learned), and how/if the Pokemon evolves or has evolved.

Owned: This section keeps track of how many Pokemon your Trainer has owned. If you have evolved a Pokemon while owning it, you will count each stage as owning one additional Pokemon. However, if you trade your Pokemon, you must subtract it and evolution tree from the amount of Pokemon that you have owned and then add the new Pokemon that you gain to your list, but not the new Pokemon's evolved or deevolved forms. This will prevent players from trading Pokemon back and forth in order to quickly gain levels.

In addition to these two sections of your character's profile, you will also need to post a checklist into your profile's thread. This checklist will represent your Pokedex, and you will be responsible for using it to keep track of what you've seen/owned, and how many you have seen/owned. This can be found in the Pokedex thread in the game system sub-forum.

Inventory

Your character's inventory will keep track of various items that they are carrying.

Money: The amount of Money that you have to your name. The currency in Pokemon is known as Pokedollars. You will use this to buy various items and potentially even Pokemon or Pokemon Eggs.

-Pokeballs- The tool that a Trainer uses to capture and store Pokemon. There are different kinds of Pokeballs, and if your character manages to obtain one of these unique Pokeballs, you may simply keep track of it in its own section in your profile.

-Potions- Potions can be used to heal your Pokemon's Hp and cure them of status ailments. Keep track of what kinds your character possesses and how many of each they possess here.

-Badges/Ribbons/Medals- This is where you can keep track of the various awards that your character has received.

-Weapons- If your Trainer uses a weapon to battle against Pokemon or other Trainers, this is where it should be listed.

-Misc- This is where you may list anything that hasn't been covered above. Evolutionary stones, vitamins, food, or many other things can be listed here.

Example Profile

The following is an example of what your profile will need to look like. I will insert a few notes into this example and they will be in bold blue text, so that they're easier to discern from the profile itself. You may also choose to place a picture at the top of your profile to give people an idea of what your character looks like.

---------Basic Information---------

Character Name: Sukotto Hosenka

Age: 21

Gender: Male

Physical Description: Sukotto is a slender young man, just shy of six feet tall. He has brown hair that lightens in the sunlight and hazel eyes that tend to shift somewhere between brown and green. He is normally a bit pale, but recent outings have tanned his complexion a little. Sukotto wears a variety of clothing. He usually wears dark or black clothing that have brightly colored, deeply saturated designs on them.

Personality: This Pokemon Trainer is quiet and humble. In spite of this, he thursts for battle and thrives on strategy. Prior to becoming a full-fledged Pokemon Trainer, Sukotto studied various books that covered battle strategy in order to help realize his dream of becoming one of the most talented Ace Trainers in the world. In spite of his ambition, Sukotto intended on treating his Pokemon with friendship and respect, as his equals.

Hometown: Member of Clanwood Gym Remember, this will determine which option you are selecting for your Pokemon starter. This choice means that Sukotto will start with a Pokemon that is randomly selected from the ones that share a type with Clanwood's gym. If he would have put, "Citizen from Clanwood City", then he would receive a completely random Pokemon instead. Make sure that you understand this option, because it will be too late to fix it once you've posted your profile.

---------Stats---------

Level: 0 The level of your Trainer. Every Trainer starts at Level 0.

Max Hp: 65

This is just an example profile. Your descriptions of appearance/personality could be much more detailed if you like. The following section is the skeleton of the profile that you will be using. In order to create your character, you must copy and paste your completed profile into the Trainer Profile Approval thread in the game system sub-forum. A crew member will then determine whether or not your profile is correct and then will assign your starting Pokemon and equipment.

Your profile must be formatted clearly and correctly. You don't have to be exact and bold everything that I've made bold above, but it should have about the same spacing and be at least as clear as the one above. There is a lot of information in profiles and crew members will want to be able to navigate through it fairly quickly since they already have a lot of work on their plate. If you don't know how to use Gaia's formatting and need help, then the crew member who checks your profile will assist you.

Copy-paste will be a good friend to you in this guild.
