A muted bellow of anger and pain sounded across the plains of the Savannah. Chipo stood over the carcass of her kill, an antelope she'd just managed to bring down not only twenty minutes earlier as a group of four hyenas circled her, giggling madly. She snarled, her tail lashing back and forth as she turned her head to try and keep an eye on as many of them as she could at any one time but always it seemed there was at least one who wasn't in her sights and when she wasn't looking it would lunge forward and n** at her.
She cursed her poor choice of location to bring down the bandy-legged thing, and the time of day. It had sort of been a moment of opportunity, though, and she wasn't one to turn up the chance at an easy meal. She hadn't noticed the mangy beasts until to late... her nose too far into her meal.
Another hyena skipped forward, leaning forward as though to try and grab the leg of her prey only for Chipo to swing around, large paw swiping out in an arc to smash against the side of the 'Yeena's face with a snarl. It stumbled away, cheek and neck bleeding now from a few claw marks.

He had been following a faint, dusty trail or the past few days now, hunting when he could but there ad been no rivers for fishing, and the only herd he'd seen had already been hunted, for they were skittish and flighty. Thus, it had been a while since his last meal and the emptiness in his belly was slowly becoming more insistent.
Suddenly, the distant roars and barks caught his attention and up his dark head went, paws stilling in mid-stride as he strained to catch the sounds a second time. Frowning as he listened he slowly realised it was two different sounds. Hyenas for sure, and they were hunting.... something that sounded like an ... enraged lioness! With his own bellowing call, the huge lion leapt off the path and raced across the land in huge, bounding strides. Bursting onto the scene he roared, the massive blast of sound startled the hyenas and all eyes turned on the massive, black-bodied beast with the pale ghostly skull head and bone-white front limbs. Another powerful roar ripped from the huge lion's throat before he sprang forwards and all that deadly muscled strength tore into the first hapless hyena he came across. The beast shrieked under the large paw as his side was flayed open, blood running freely over rough brown hide.
Sliabh didn't pause but raced at the next attacker, dagger like fangs sinking into the mangy body and lifted it clean of its feet. With a powerful toss he sent the hyena flying, only to land heavily on the hard earth and lay still, unmoving. Growling furiously, Sliabh turned, bright amber eyes fixing on the next scavenger.

The sudden blur of black and blue had surprised Chipo as much as it had the hyenas. Just as she had reared back, claws and fangs ready to sink into the greedy beast in front of her it skittered away in the wake of the male lion's savagery. He seemed to show no mercy as he lay into it's other comrades. Chipo watched as he turned towards the remaining, her own muscles tense as she waited for them to come forward and attack... or for him to decide SHE was a threat as well and turn on her. He was the biggest lion she'd ever seen in all of her days and to say he didn't make her feel a little afraid would be a lie.
The remaining hyenas paused a moment, looking from one to the other before turning tail and running as fast as they could to get away, kicking up puffs of dust in their haste. At least they were gone... but the lioness wasn't sure she could handle this great big lion if he decided he didn't like her. She turned, slightly crouched and hunched, shoulders set forward, her ears back as she stood over her kill.
"Thank you." She called out in an even voice, keeping her eyes on him warily. "Sorry for the skepticism but for what reason would you help me like that."

Tail lashing back and forth, massive head held low, he watched the remaining mutts scramble away, yipping and baying as they went. Once they were safely gone he shook his muscular body and straightened, fur rippling as he relaxed and the great ruff of mane obscuring his face as he turned towards her. All the violence and deadly ferocity gone from the male, and in instead calm amber eyes blinked back at her before he dipped his head politely.
"That gang of hyenas seem to be particularly violent, I came across one of their kills a few days ago." Letting his tail curl round his hind legs he smiled faintly, a strangle shy look in golden eyes. "I figured you might want to actually eat the rest of your meal and they weren't about to leave on their own..." Shrugging faintly he tipped his head.
