Now, as a 31 year old, I'm going to admit something: I'm an old gamer. I have a lot of trouble getting into the newer stuff that's come out. I guess that's a two-fold problem. First, a ton of the games that came out fell heavily under anime influences in the artwork, storyline, and game concepts. Additionally, all the newer stuff seems to be FPS. That caused me to disconnect deeply from gaming, and so I'm slow to adapt.
That said, I still love my old games. I've been doing this since the days of the Atari 2600. I still have a functioning 8-bit Nintendo system (till recently had a functioning SNES too that I played regularly). I still routinely play games like Diablo 2, StarCraft, Rome Total War, and even every couple years or so do a run through of Final Fantasy VII for kicks.
Who else here still plays some old games?

Ah, the young. lol I'll tell you something Phil, some of those bad graphics games were better designed and more compelling then a lot of the stuff put out today. Dragon Quest III for NES (called Dragon Warrior III) managed to accomplish all of the following: it managed to have linear progression while still allowing for free exploration at all points (you know, unlike how FFX was a straight path from the first 15 minutes in till just before the end of the game), your characters could be highly customized with some degree of effort without turning them into walking gods, the game was devoid of pointless sidequests that you have to spend 20+ hours of gametime to beat. There's a dirty little secret about these new ultra-powerful graphics games you love: as graphics capabilities increased developers spent more time thinking of ways to make the scenery and sprites prettier rather than how to make the game unique and innovative.

Well I understand old games, they were the first steps to wghat we have now and although they did have better storylines newer games can still be bad a**... As an example Metal gear was awesome but metal gear solid is better and even then metal gear solid 2 is better then the first.

I'm somewhat of a retro gamer, however my dreamcast and nintendo 64 died along time ago.. =_= Bless their souls, I find myself downloading retro games from the Wii shop channel and the Psn store, like the older megaman and sonic games. I never played things like pong or the original pac man Y: I wasn't around for those. But I personally like the newer games for their complexity. It might just be me, but back then the platformer and sports genres were the biggest things. Evolution is good in some cases if ya ask me, but its also kind of bad in some cases. I'm on the middle ground U:

Oh, people, don't get me wrong. New games can be really good. I'll admit, a big part of what keeps me going back to the old ones is nostalgia. And that's going to happen to all of you some day too. The difference is you'll be playing Call of Duty: Black Ops on your PS3 wondering why you just can't get into the "Mind Interface" games that will be all the rage on the PS6. But as a nod to Duriono, that's assuming those systems hold out that long. Another nasty thing about these consoles is that they have more small, complicated parts that break a lot quicker. Ataris and NES systems are older than 90% of the Gaia population, and they still work. They were built to last on simple concepts. The new systems push the technology as far as it will go, they don't know how to make that stuff last a long time.

All I play is Legend of Zelda and Tales Of Symphonia and the occasional Pokemon game. Oh, and Kingdom Hearts when I lose the other games. xD I have no more advanced than a Gamecube and a ps2. And my sega's broken. D: (Though I'm proud to say, my gbc and gba still work.)
I hate the way final fantasy is set up. So I don't play those. .__."
