I hadn't seen this anywhere else in the guild, so I figured it would be appropriate to list the countries and US states that allow gay marriage, as well as the US states that will recognize gay marriages from other states.
Countries that allow gay marriage: The Netherlands South Africa Canada Belgium Spain Norway Sweden Argentina Portugal Iceland Mexico City (only the city)
States that allow gay marriage: Massachusetts Connecticut Iowa Vermont Washington D.C. (not really a state but whatever) New Hampshire
Countries that will recognize gay marriage from other places: Aruba (Dutch only) Israel Mexico (Mexico City only) Sint Maarten (Dutch only)
States that will recognize gay marriage from other places: New York California (limited to their own; long story) Rhode Island Maryland
Oh and there is a loop hole in some laws: not all states are allowing people to change their gender under law, but they will not prevent the surgery. So, if you are M -> F trans and you happen to live in one of those states, you may still get married to a woman. 3nodding

Interesting. Thank you for the info. I've been wondering about that but never bothered to do the research on my own.

New Hampshire also allows same-sex marriages, and New Jersey will grant a union with similar rights available (though not under the name of marriage). California's recognition is a very limited one, extending only to those who were married under the law there, but not those from other states.
