Gah! This is terrible. If this law goes (and stays) in effect I predict 2 things. Alot more absolutely horrible American "anime" and poeple leaving Japan to continue making(and distributing) anime. Either way it will continue, there is too much demand for it. Hopefully the quality won't suffer for it though.

I think japan willl still produce anime but it will be back to where it doesnt show anything.
Anbd Im sorry yaoi and yuri lovers. Thats going to be gone or marked at 18+
He is specifically targeting these groups. He's a homo phobe.

you know.. this is just utterly stupid I think. considering that manga and anime is one of the biggest sales that japan gets (besides making video games and other electronic goodies)
Besides, they air shows on tv that are more damaging and harmful to youth more often then what the anime manga stuff gets. and since anime and manga is pretty much considered as soft core pron, why should they worry?
Yes, making it so that ***** are less likely to emerge due to said anime is good, but to totally ban it is something entirely else and completely wrong.

This actually reminds me of Friend's manga ban in 20th Century Boys (or maybe it was the sequel arc, 21st Century Boys?) by Naoki Urasawa. Two mangaka have a scene where they talk about the ban and how they can't draw the kind of manga they want to without going to prison. Then one of them says he'll just go rouge and writes it anyway. He ends up in prison, where he learns the truth behind the events that spawned the ban. While there, he decides that if following your dreams and doing the right thing means that you're punished for it then he would rather die a hero than live submissively like that.
While I don't think the ban will muck up people's lives to the same extent, this will definitely cause a significant change in the kind of manga that is published, and ultimately, in the kinds of manga that we see translated in the West. I wonder if this means that it will be harder for companies to get the rights to publish older works that don't fit the new guidelines? It's sad to think that some of the series we're collecting now will never be legally available to us in English.
