Short answer: I think it's totally cool if it doesn't interfere with your faith. (I know some people who are okay with other Believers watching/reading, but not okay with themselves doing such because of temptation/spiritual weakness.)
Long answer: The magic in the Harry Potter series is like the magic in the Lord of the Rings series or the Force in Star Wars, which are two huge fantasy series that are purty popular with Christians. Gandalf is described as a wizard and practicer of magic and nobody freaks out. Have you seen the Star Wars series?? They call the Jedi/Sith things like wizards, warlocks, and practicers of an old religion, and Han Solo calls the Force "hocus pocus" and magic! In fact, in interviews, George Lucas has very clearly stated that he included the Force in his Star Wars series in order to get the idea of eastern mysticism and "chi" into the American people's heads, sort of like C. S. Lewis with Aslan in The Chronicles of Narnia! My dad wasn't originally allowed to watch Star Wars as a kid because of the magic! To conclude this lengthy post, I propose that anti-HP people in the Body of Christ relax a little bit (JK Rowling is a liberal Christian) and start fighting Star Wars if they must find something to fight. (I am both a Harry Potter fan and a Star Wars fan. I'm just saying.) Or maybe even push for cleaner media aimed at young adults such as myself! I've seen so many of my Sisters in Christ go wonky because of racy media. If we must protest the media, THAT'S the kind of stuff we should be protesting. THAT kind of stuff is ruining minds of the young.

YES!, finally a person who's not up tight about it. It really bugs me sometimes how people freak out about the littlest mention about this sometimes.

Well there is also a difference between magic and Magick. Magic is made up, a trick, people who believe in Magick believe in the scary real deal
