Snow swirled down in rivulets, gusts of gentle wind gathering the wayward flakes as they sifted down from the pale sky. The mid-day sun hid behind billowing clouds, casting veiled light upon the frosty world beneath.
Not far from his family's sheltered den, a young colt capered about in jovial spirits. He pranced through the snow, lifting his hooves up at an awkward angle... peering downwards with distaste.
... upon closer inspection, it became apparent that his antics were the result of vexation... not... vivaciousness.
He had discovered a rather... interesting... quirk to the white powdery stuff that fell from the heavens.
Although it called quite eagerly to any adventurous young foal (Come play in me! I'm soft! Don't mind the cold- it builds character!) it was in fact quite... bothersome.
The cold white stuff was not dense-packed enough to offer solid support; he sank up to his knees with every step, making his awkward gait a necessity. (Shallow embankments ran adjacent to the foal's chosen path... he was not quite smart enough to realize that perhaps it was choice in avenue that was leading to such inconvenience.) And it was cold! Though not cold enough to make his limbs go numb.
Kaie gave an enthusiastic grin, trying his best not to let physical discomfort drag his spirits down.
After all...
It's a new day! Full of possibility and adventure and...
He sunk chest-deep in a particularly thick snowbank.
... and... cold.
