There are many theories about how the Tarot works ranging from the occult to psychology, sometimes even a mix of both. Based on this, readers develop habits when reading and different methods of interpreting the cards.
I personally believe that my guide uses the tarot to convey ideas to me in a way that I can easily see. When I read, I can sometimes hear something like a mental conversation made out of words on my part and concepts on my guide's part. If the reading isn't for me personally, then I start with a small piece of information from one card and then as more are added, a sort of scenario forms in my head which usually turns out to be accurate.
Soooo....How do you think the tarot works? What is your experience when you read?

I kinda view it in a mechanical process. That as you feed information into the cards, it processes it and provides an answer. Although the answer is the tricky part to describe because I've had some readings that would be hard to explain in a logical sense. Each deck to me is like a volume of information, and while a lot of decks have the same information, they may be more wiser in different aspects.
The OH cards are a good representation of how I think tarot works. Essentially tarot is designed specifically to interact with our thoughts, with each card reflecting an aspect of a question we ask. Like with OH cards you pair up an image to a word, in the same manner you would pair up a card to an aspect of the question. That pairing of OH cards describes your thoughts and provides insight on who you are when you reflect on the results. Same with tarot, looking at the cards and reflecting on what they could mean applied to your question.
Overall I view it as a tool to accessing the world around you. There's a lot more than meets the eye, especially looking at the history of tarot. So it's hard to put a label on how it works when it's not easy to explain for me. For instance whenever I use my dream deck, it feels like a back and forth conversation with the cards. However it could just be how I handle the thought process in deciphering the deck since it requires heavy use of intuition and concept analysis.
