When I was in college my class had a debate about whether or not the government should pay for the release of hostages, I was the only one who said yes... I stand by it even now, although I understand the reasons not to. Time to debate!
*do you agree with me? would you pay for the release of your parents/ children/ siblings? post away!*

This is a question of morality versus gain ... for an individual ... no doubt they would want to pay a ransom ... if it was you're son/daughter/significant other ... it wouldn't even hesistate ... as long as they were safely back in your arms ... but the thing with goverment ... it is more like we could do the right thing and reunite this family ... but how could we benefit from this ... if anything it will be dentremental to our image ...
If it were me though ... I would exhaust every single resource ... and only then I would pay up the ransom ...
