Here's a post that one of my friends wrote on how to steam your face. It works and it's very simple.
Alright, so I know there are some people who have huge pores and/or their faces are oily. You are acne prone and you have quite a lot of black heads and your skin just doesn’t feel smooth or clean. I have that problem. I don’t have as much acne as I used to because I’m taking some medication for it but my blackheads and whitehead are pretty visible. SO! This is what I do.
Steaming your face is a pretty good way to open up your pores and clean them out.
This is what you need:
1. A small towel (to drape over your head.) 2. A safe place to put a burning hot pot on.(pshh duh lol) 3. Rosemary, lemon, chamomile or mint. (whatever you choose is fine. This is not required. Lemon(thyme and peppermint) helps kill bacteria and help with the oiliness of skin. Chamomile or lime helps soothe skin and is also for sensitive skin. And for normal skin, rose, rosemary or lavender. 4. A mask (also optional. I use Biore Pore strips. They are supposedly bad for your skin since it pulls your skin but I use them occasionally. Like every 2 or 3 months or whenever I feel like my nose needs extra help.) I also use a soothing mask like Honey & Oat 3-in-1 Scrub Mask from The Body Shop.
Here is what you do:
1. Take a pot, medium sized, and fill it half-way with water. (You can do a little less depending on the size of the pot.) 2. Heat it to a rapid boil and then take the pot off the stove. 3. This is when you can add whatever herbs you want to add. I put in a chamomile tea bag. 4. Put your face over the pot and drape the small towel over it. Be sure your face is a safe distance away. If you feel uncomfortable, then move your face a bit away from the pot. After you get comfortable, you can always move a little closer. Steam face for about 8 minutes. Don’t over do it. You don’t want wrinkles do you? During the last minute or so, you should have drops falling off your face. 5. After you are done, there are 2 things you can do:
* Don’t pat your face dry yet. Apply the Biore Pore Strip to your nose and then pat dry with a towel and add the mask around the other areas of your face * or: Splash your face with warm water and wash with cleanser(I used Neutrogena Deep Clean Sport. Just a dime size) and apply moisturizer.
6.For the first part, you wait until however long the mask says to wait or until the strip on your nose is dry. Pull off the strip, dip the towel in the pot full of herb marinated water and wipe off the mask. Repeat until face is clean. Then you can either wash your face with a mild cleanser (like Cetaphil) and apply moisturizer. OR take a warm shower and use the mild cleanser. Of course, follow up with a moisturizer.
Alrighty, that’s pretty much it. If you use Differin, Acanya or any other anti-acne face medications, skip that just for this day to prevent irritation.
Hope that helps and good luck :]

Steaming does nothing for your face really. The only point of steaming your face is to prepare the face for manual extractions.
So unless you're planning on doing extractions to your face afterwards there is no real point in steaming it.
But if you're doing extractions at home your self you can just do them after you get out of the shower.

The ghetto way I do this is just turn my sink on for a minute, close the drain, fill it up, and put the towel over my head. 'Cause I'm lazy.
When I'm depressed I go into like, crazy beautify mode which involves crazy skin care. So I like to steam my face then because even if it doesn't do anything, I like to pretend that it's doing something. rofl It is nice when my skins feeling particularly dry, though.
