"Promise me one thing, Zera." Her grandfather breathed."Yeah?" She sniffled and wiped her watery eyes."Each time you have the best day of your life, blow up a balloon, and let it go in the air." He smiled. She gripped his cold hand and asked:"Why?" He gripped her hand back but it was a weak grip. "So I could know..." The moniter stopped beeping and it stayed on a long never ending one. One that would haunt Zera forever. Her grandfather's hand went limp in her hand and she kissed it, tears running down her face. "I promise..." She whispered.

Zera has lived with her Aunt for 3 years. Her and her grandfather were so close, till he died. She barely have any friends because she only talks when she in class. Her and her aunt barely talk. Her aunt dosent even look at her straight in the eyes. But that changes when a new guy comes and accidently bumps into her in the halls. He had heard alot about her from the guys in his class. But as she holds his hand out for him to grab, He just looks down at her as people stopped and looked aat them in silence. Will he help her and become friends with her, or more? Or will he just leave her there on the floor?

He walked up the steps, instantly greeted, but not by a "bro". Roko, a football player, looked like he always did, with tattered jeans, messy polos, and his girlfriends by him. Adrian didn't have a girlfriend because they always rushed into relationships with him, and most of them didn't end with "Let's just be friends." Adrian slipped his Motorola in his back pocket, and walked toward his classmate. "Yo A, I haven't seen that face since last summer!" said Roko. "Yeah Adrian, where you been?" purred Ashleigh, Roko's girlfriend. "I've been...... around." Adrian said with a smirk. "Define 'around'." Ashleigh purred, heavily flirting with Adrian. She tilted her head a little, like an innocent puppy's. Nice try, Adrian thought, rolling his eyes. "Well, guys, I gotta go. Roko, Ashleigh." He said, nodding as he walked away. Later, he texted Roko: PUT YOUR GIRLFRIEND ON A LEASH, SHE'S HITTING ON EVERY GUY I SEE. Adrian smiled, knowing exactly what he did, but knew it wasn't that bad.Yeah I would die for ya baby, but you won't do the same.

Zera walked down the hall as she let her red hair down and read her book as people pushed her around or teased her. But she was used to it since she was in middle school. She saw the couple and frowned as the girlfriends was flirting with every one.

Then, some kid bumped into Adrian, making him spill his books, and bump into Zera. Oh, crap! He thought as he fell down. "Zera, I'm so sorry."
