OR any independent productions for that matter? If you are then you'll understand why I love them so much. for you'll probably love them for the same or simular reasons, if not for more then that.

Case and point.

Back in 2001 I had crossed the sundance channel at the 2/3rd point of a movie. I watched it, because it was mildly interesting at the time. I saw that because I hadn't seen the first parts. I watched it to a certain point, but flipped to the channel I was watching prior and missed the ending. While it was interesting it wasn't enough to hold me longer then between commercial breaks of an SG1 episode rerun I either didn't remember or had missed. I checked my guide and flagged the rerun of the movie, titled "No Such Thing" so that it would switch to it. Boy, was I glad I did watch it from beginning to end. I even had caught my brother who was a bit angry that I was commandeering the TV from him (how dare I, the youngest do such a thing? Regardless that he's been watching TV for that whole entire day, mind you, this was two days after that first showing)

The story is about a foul mouthed, alcoholic monster that lives in Iceland, that is tired of humanity and either wants to kill the entire lot of them, or wants to die. These is much more to the story then that of course, but if I told you more I would ruin it. The thing I loved the most about it is besides the ending, there really is no special effects. no CGI, no big flashy explosions (but the guy does breath fire a few times, easily done with two every day items, in truth.) and save for the end, no really big flashy scenes. It's a tad slow, due to it being a thought provoking, very human driven story. I mean.. it's nearly 2 hours long.. and that is without commercial breaks (Which Sundance thankfully only had commercial breaks between movies) But still. it's well worth a watch, as are a lot of other sundance films.

One minor note. One of my favorite lines is.
"the time it takes to kill you bastards, it's f***ing depressing." which is near the start of the movie. it kinda gives you the feel for this human driven story about a monster, which thus would label it as horror. but, it's more comedy then horror. for at no point do you really feel horror.

oh yeah. the music they had composed and arrange for the movie was flawless as well. but one must remember. Sundance prides themselves on making movies that are artistically made and produced, and thus don't do things like hollywood does. So you are bound to come across scene that are little to no sound or dialogue. But that only serves to enhance the movie better.
