Well... apparently I cant Pm the captain; and I'm going to get banned from the guild..... stupid "pms only from friends" option stressed

Did you try to PM him from the announcement page? Because it wouldn't let me either. I had to find a post of his and then scroll down to 'Send PM'.

Try that and let me know, because my PM went through after that.
