Breastfeeding is most always recommended because it's nurturing and nutritious for the baby, but bottle-feeding is also nutritious. Which do you prefer and what are your thoughts/opinions on it?

I had to formula-feed my son because he had trouble latching onto me. My daughter was breast-fed for 6 weeks.

I've been exclusively breastfeeding my son since he was born (4.5 months ago).

I think everyone should at least TRY to BF. I understand that many women can't but I think you should at least give it a shot. It's better for the baby and it helps baby weight come off. Haha.

I don't know if we have any new mothers or soon to be mothers in the guild, but I'd like to offer any help or support for breastfeeding. I love answering questions and trouble shooting problems, even if I'm not an expert smile

I tried breastfeeding my daughter for as long as I could. It ended up being only 6 weeks because I was in so much pain. I tried with my son, but he couldn't latch on very well and I had my daughter running around (1.5 years old), so I chose formula for him. I wish I could have breastfed both of my children for at least 6 months.

Hey, at least you tried! The first 6 weeks are definitely the hardest. Although, I'm having difficulty right now because Alex is going through a growth spurt and is also sucking harder. Oh well.

I think what a lot of people need to realize is, breastfeeding isn't just a learning process for Mom, the baby needs to learn to eat too.

I think the most important thing is that your babies are fed, regardless of what they're eating smile

I agree! As long as the baby is eating and gaining weight normally and is healthy, that's all that matters. But it is good to at least try to breastfeed. It really is a learning experience for mother and baby!

i breastfeed and had no problems at all..of course at first it was hard on my breasts but if you use lanolin it helps a lot...breastfeeding is one of the best things you can do for your child and its completely natural but not all mothers can do it

I have breast feed both my childs, but babies are really different!

My first one I had big problems to get it to start. She couldn't catch my breast well and she was impatience and always wanting more and more. My breasts were bleeding a lot and I already considered quitting. Then one friend of mine told me to try out with breast rubber. It was _awesome_. I could feed the baby, she liked the rubber and I was feeding her with it until she was one year old.

With second one, I packed the breast rubber with me already for the hospital. But she was eating my breast without it with no problem. My breasts started to bleed this time also, so I was using rubber for a three weeks to help them to heal and after that she has been just eating fine without it. (She is now 4 months old.)

But with second one another of my breasts got infected. My breasts were bursting with milk and baby didn't want so much. I was trying to take some out but I was afraid it would just make them to make milk faster so I quit. So another one got all red and I got high fever. It was really painfull. After it started healing there was blood coming mixed to the milk. Doctor said some of the lactiferous ducts were broken and that caused it.

And yes, I think everyone should give it a try. if it doesn't work, it doesn't work, but it is the most cheapest and easiest way to keep your baby fed.
