The night had been a long and stressful one, Nyx had been showing signs over the days leading up to that night that she was going into labor and Jiji had insisted she join him at the Anbu camp so that she could be monitored under the best medical care in Ikebokuro. At first she'd seemed reluctant, but it hadn't been an easy pregnancy for them, but that night is almost seemed as though things were turning bad. Nyx had done fine at first but them something had gone wrong, and she'd almost been lost. Jiji had never felt such fear before in his life, the idea of losing Nyx would have been almost too much to bare and he would have been left to care for the litter by himself, a job he wasn't sure he was ready to do.
He'd been allowed to stay by Nyx's side and by morning she was still sleeping while the nurses cared for their kits. Three of the most beautiful kittens he'd ever seen before in his life. Two boys and a girl who bare the mark of the Anbu on her arm. Though none of them fully took after him or Nyx, with the strange markings that came from both of his and Nyx's parents certainly were showing through the next generation. He wasn't sure how the little calico quite fit in or how she had come about in the mix but he wasn't worried. He hadn't slept in over two days now and was badly starting to feel its effects, as cats usually slept about sixteen hours a day and dark bags were already forming under his eyes.
Sitting just outside of the tree hollow where Nyx was resting he could feel himself nodding off a bit and shook himself and looked around. There were medics walking about going about their usual duties when Nyx's head medic approached him.
“Jijiro.” He said simply and held his arms behind his back. The medic was a tall and rough looking Maine Coon with bright orange fur and there was a deep scar over his cheek, but under his medics uniform just like everyone else in the camp he held the mark of the Anbu.
“Yes, how can I help you. Everything is all right? The...the kittens are okay...what about Nyx, she still hasn't woken up. She's gonna be okay isn't she?” he asking standing up and feeling more awake, his muscles tensed up and he could feel himself shaking a little and begin to purr quietly out of his fear in a last resort attempt to calm himself.
The medic held up his hands. “I assure you, you're litter is doing wonderfully. A perfect litter if I ever saw one, My Lord.” he said with a smile, but it faded a little just as quickly as it had appeared. “As for your mate, I don't know. She's stable for the time being, but she's suffered a great deal of blood loss. When she wakes she'll need to be on very rich diet for the next month in order to regain her own health and support the kittens as well. But I can assure you, after this, there's certainly no chance of her having another litter. Her body would never accept, in face in an inspection and a few tests of our own it's a miracle she carried this litter, she must have had a moment of ovulation in which for once she was fertile, but it won't happen again.” he said with a nod. “I expect by late this evening she'll be waking up, but she will be very weak, we will be sure to have to best food available to her and she will need to eat.. but for now, I do suggest you get some rest.” he said at last and held out his hand to Jiji with a smile.
Jiji nodded and sighed shakily and took the medics hand. “Leave me a list of everything Nyx will need to be eating and I will be sure she had it. As soon as she's able to be transported I would like for her and the kittens to be taken back to the University.” he said and yawned and covered his mouth. He knew he needed to rest, maybe he would go and curl up with the kittens and share their warmth. He had barely held them after they were born because he had been so worried over Nyx, he hadn't starting thinking of what they would name them.
“Rest assured your wishes will be fulfilled. In about a week I believe we should be able to transfer her. But I don't suggest you let her get up and have much free movement or walking around for at least 3 weeks. You'll be left chasing the kittens once they gain their feet.” he smiled and turned to leave Jiji. “Get yourself some rest, if she wakes we'll come and get you My Lord, I promise.”
Jiji nodded and sniffed. “Yes, yes I believe I will get myself a little rest.” he said and staggered a little around the tree hollow and slumped his way over to a group of nearby trees where he would climb into the branches and end up passing out for a good while, falling sleep that was more like passing out from exhaustion.
It would be a few hour later in which Jiji was in the middle of having a terrible dream of being chased by a woodpecker while it tried to drill into his head. Upon opening his dark eyes, rimmed with gold. There standing over him with a sick grin on his tanned face was his b*****d father.
“Good morning sunshine, rough night?” he purred sadistically.
“Oh go to hell...” Jiji hissed under his breath and rolled over and tried to scoot away from Youko. He didn't need his s**t right now, he had a million other things to worry about, and the main four was his family.
frowned and pouted out his bottom lip. “Aww but I only came to congratulate you on making me officially an old man by making me a grandfather. But I do admit it's a wonderful looking litter. I went to peak at them myself, the little female may make a wonderful addition to us someday when she's older. She bears yous mark on her forearm, you can't deny that. She's got Anbu written in her fur just like you do.”
“Shut up!” Jiji hissed and turned to glare at Youko. “My kittens will have no contact with this place as long as I can keep them away from here. This is not a place for kittens to grow up. I know from experience, this was not the best place to grow up, I want better for my kittens.” he growled and got up, he had to get away from Youko. The last thing he needed right now was for him to be sticking his nose where it didn't belong. He'd never played any part in his and his sister's lives when they were growing up and all of sudden he wanted to stick his nose into his kids lives, that wasn't about to happen, not now.
Youko held up his hands in defense. “Fine I'll leave you alone you cranky a**. Get yourself something to eat and go sit by your mate. She's quite a pretty little thing. I remember meeting her mother for the first time. Quite a beautiful little catch you got there. Least you have good taste, your litter will be quite good looking I have to say.” he purred and smiled. “Get something to eat and go sit with her. She'll be awake soon and I'm sure she'd prefer if you were there when she wakes.” he said and got up and left, almost too easily, but he had heard about the trouble that night and even he had enough decency not to push Jiji's buttons too much. Though he couldn't say it himself, he was proud of Jijiro, his own son and as far as he was concerned his only son. He left Jiji sitting there and didn't say another word, he was off to see Joshua and chat since Joshua was the one who had played surrogate father, he was the one who had more right to be called the grandfather to these kittens.
After Youko left Jiji sat there for a while with his head resting in his hands, he was still horribly tired, but he didn't think he would be able to get back to sleep yet. Instead he actually followed Youko's advice and got up and found himself food from the stores and went to sit by Nyx's side while he slowly chewed on the food and swallowed it heavily. He reached out and took Nyx's hand gently and sighed, wishing she would wake up, the longer she slept, the more he worried. It had been a long terrifying night for him, he needed some relief.
