The following posts will be an example of a proper Pokemon Trainer battle. This thread will give you a good idea about what most battles will be like in this game.
The two Trainers in this battle are named Linus Ruy and Henrike Tomiko. In order for you to understand where all of the stats are coming from, their profiles can be found in the Pokemon Trainer Profiles sub-forum.
In order to explain some things within the battle, I will use dark red text. This text isn't part of the battle, but will serve as a way to make sure you understand what's going on.

Henrike had just finished an intense round of sword training in the forest and was enjoying a relaxing rest near a river. She was sitting on the edge of it and looking up into the sky. She began to pick out the clouds in the sky, deciding that many of them looked like Pokemon that she had seen in her travels. Before she could get too lost within this dreamy activity, she heard a rustling in the bushes. The young woman reached for her sword, which was nearly always found strapped to her waist, but found nothing. She glanced towards the rustling vegetation and realized that she had carelessly left the blade on the ground about halfway between herself and the bush, meaning that the sword was a good twenty meters or so away from her. Instead of closing the distance between herself and the blade, she reached into her deep coat pocket and withdrew an even more effective weapon....

The aspiring Pokemon Trainer named Linus stumbled through a thick forest in search of new allies that would help him on his quest to become a Pokemon Master. He had heard rumors that this forest was full of the elusive Bug Pokemon known as Scyther. Linus knew that in order to beat the nearby gym leader, he would need something as powerful as a Scyther on his team in order to come out on top. Unfortunately, the only thing that he had managed to find were a few Weedles and he accidentally spooked those anyway. In spite of the scrapes and sores that he would curse at later, Linus knew that a Scyther would be worth the price. He finally broke through the bushes, tripping over a root and landing face first on the ground. Before long, Linus felt like he was being watched. He looked up to see a young woman nearly his age. Something in her hand caught the sunlight and caused Linus to grin. It was a Pokeball and that meant she was a Trainer. Linus had been itching for a good fight; literally itching due to the poison ivy in the forest. "Let's have a match!" he said to the girl, taking out a Pokeball of his own as he stood up from the ground.

It's important to get a certain level of detail built up before a fight begins. There aren't any specific roleplaying requirements set in this guild, but if you want to have a battle that will be worth remembering, you should put some effort into the story behind it.

Henrike let out a sigh of relief. She was in no mood to battle a pack of Scyther and was glad to see that all of the commotion had been caused by some runt who had gotten himself lost in the forest. "You startled me, punk. For a moment, I thought you were a Scyther out for blood but then I soon realized that a Pokemon as cunning as a Scyther wouldn't make so much noise when approaching their prey." The young woman stared at the boy for a moment. She was always up for a good Pokemon match, but she wasn't sure if the young man standing before her could offer something like that. "I accept your challenge, I just hope your Pokemon battling is more impressive than your navigation skills. We'll do a three on three battle, take it or leave it." After throwing a few words into the runt's eye, Henrike threw the Pokeball she was holding. It struck the ground and revealed a Koffing. "Go Smokey!"

Linus glared at the woman. He wondered why she felt the need to sting him with her words, but figured that he had probably really scared her by falling out of the bush so suddenly. "Three on three works perfectly for me!" The young man then summoned a Pokemon of his own. When the Pokeball struck the ground, a black blob quickly shot up into the air. "I'll start with Black Bird!" Linus liked to keep his Pokemon fast so that they would be more likely to have the first chance of attacking in a fight. Unfortunately, this meant that their other capabilities were a little limited, but Linus had always hoped that a high speed would make up for that. His Starly was no exception. It was a quick Flying-type that packed a surprisingly powerful punch for its small size. He hoped that it would be enough to take down a Koffing, which would be pretty troublesome in the long run if he didn't finish it quickly.

These two trainers have just finished the first step of a battle, "Setting the Stage". They have each sent out their first Pokemon and have posted the Pokemon's Species and Speed as well as their Trainer's Dexterity. They've also included a picture of their Pokemon which isn't required, but it will definitely make for a more engaging experience so it's recommended.
Since Henrike's Dexterity is higher than Linus's, she will be able to use her Trainer Actions first at the top of each round. However, since each Trainer has sent out a Pokemon, that counts as their first Trainer action and now the Pokemon get their chance to act.
Since Linus's Starly has a higher Speed than Henrike's Koffing, Starly will go first.
If you're fighting an NPC, you don't have to take any additional steps. However, if you wish to take part in Player vs Player battle in which you fight against another member in the guild, you will have to visit the Player Battles sub-forum in order to see what else you'll need to do.

Linus knew from his past battles that Poison types could be a handful if they weren't put down quickly, so he decided to have his Starly use her most powerful move. "Black Bird, hit it hard with your Wing Attack!" Linus's Starly flapped its wings hard, getting itself high into the sky. It then spun its body so that its beak faced the earth. With one more hard flap, it shot itself towards the ground, aiming itself at the Koffing on the field. If it managed to hit its target, Black Bird would smash Koffing with one of its powerful wings. This bird may have been small, but Linus had trained it well, making sure that it had a good sense of how to use gravity in order to turn itself into a bullet of sorts. If the attack met its target, the Koffing wouldn't know what hit it.

31(Damage from Wing Attack) - 12(Koffing's Defense) = 19 Damage taken
Koffing is still standing
The opposing Starly's Wing Attack smashed into Smokey and caused him to slam into the ground hard, bouncing him a few meters away from the bird. Henrike bit her lip, 'This kid is good,' she thought silently to herself. She shrugged off the minor setback and thought up an attack that would surely clip the Starly's wings. Smokey, lets end that pesky bird with your Smog! Smokey looked at the Starly and shouted "Koffing!" It then allowed a thick gray gas to seep out of its large pores, filling the immediate space with a poisonous cloud of smog. Henrike figured that even if the Starly managed to take Smokey out with its next move, Smokey would manage to do its own share of damage if it ended up poisoning the bird with its attack. She only hoped that her plan would succeed.
Smog – Poison A thick gas is released into the air that poisons the target. EOT – 5 Ranged Special Damage Check: 1d8 Effect: 1 Target, Blast Smog creates a 3-meter Blast. Smog Poisons all Legal Targets on 13-20 during Accuracy Check

First let's look at Starly's turn. It used the move, Wing Attack.
Wing Attack – Flying While flying by quickly, the user strikes the target with their wing. At-Will – 2 Melee Physical Damage Check: 3d10 Effect: 1 Target
You are required to post the complete description of the move that your Pokemon is using in the post that it uses it. It should be in your profile, so it's only a copy and a paste away.
In order to use Starly's Wing Attack, Linus needed to make an Accuracy Check for it. You roll 1d20 for this check. Remember, the Accuracy Check is the number next to the dash by At-Will. This means that Linus needed to roll greater than a 2 plus Koffing's Physical Evasion stat in order for the attack to succeed. Koffing's Physical Evasion stat is a 2, so Linus needed to roll higher than a 4 in order for Wing Attack to hit. He rolled a 16, so the move definitely hit.
He then made the Damage Check for Wing Attack, which is 3d10. Since Wing Attack is a Physical Move, which is determined by the word Physical in the move's description, Starly adds its Attack stat to the move's damage in order to determine the total damage dealt by the move.
More often than not, you're not going to know anything about the Pokemon that you are fighting. You won't know their Evasion Stat, so you won't know if your move hits until they make their post following your attack. You should always post your Damage Check, even if your Accuracy Check fails. Some moves don't have an Accuracy Check, so you may simply post its Damage Check and/or whatever effects it may have.
Finally, one of Linus's Trainer Features triggered when Starly hit Koffing with its Wing Attack.
Improved Attacks: Ace Trainer Feature Static Trigger: Your pokemon’s damage dealing attack hits. Effect: When adding up damage dealt to the foe, add either half of your STR modifier or half of your CON modifier before your foes subtracts their defense or special defense from the attack.
This allows Linus to add a little extra punch in his attack against Koffing. It isn't much damage, but it could be the difference between getting your opponent down to 1 Hp or 0 Hp. Make sure to post these kinds of Features when you're using them, just as if your Pokemon were using a move or ability.

Now we'll look at Koffing's turn. The very first thing that was it its post was the damage that it took from Starly's Wing Attack. If its Physical Evasion was high enough to make Wing Attack miss, Henrike would have posted something like,
Wing Attack misses due to Koffing's Physical Evasion.
However, that wasn't the case, so Henrike instead posted the damage that Koffing was dealt by the Wing Attack. She then subtracted Koffing's Defense Stat from this number because it was a Physical Move. Lastly, she would update Koffing's Current Hp in her profile by subtracting this final number from it. Linus won't know what Koffing's Hp is because Trainers need a special Trainer Feature in order to see that. For most of your battles, you will be fighting an NPC controlled by a crew member and they will give you some hint about the opposing Pokemon's Hp in the roleplay, so make sure to read it!
Now we'll look at Koffing's move, Smog.
Henrike needed to roll above a 5 plus Starly's Special Evasion in order for Smog to hit, because Smog is a Special Move. Starly's Special Evasion is 1, so Henrike needed to roll above 6. She rolled above a six and she also rolled high enough for Smog's Effect to activate. If a Trainer rolls 13-20 during Smog's Accuracy Check, the target of Smog becomes Poisoned.
Since Smog is a Special Move, Koffing added its Special Attack to the Damage Check of 1d8, and Starly will eventually subtract its Special Defense from that. It will help others if you make a note of the Effect Activating in the Damage Check and also if you include a short description of what the effect does,
Starly is now Poisoned (-1/10th of its Max Hp at the end of every round and -2 Combat Stages to its Special Defense)
The first round is nearly over, but Starly still needs to calculate how much damage is dealt to it. Since the Trainers are going to get the chance to use their Trainer Actions before Starly is going to get the chance to use another move, Linus will have to post the damage calculation before the battle can proceed. In addition, Linus needs to post the Poison damage since it's the end of the round and he should acknowledge that Starly's Special Defense stat has been lowered two Combat Stages.
Remember, if a Stat is lowered one Combat Stage, the Stat loses 12.5% of its value. Since Starly's Special Defense was lowered two Combat Stages, it loses 25% of its value. Starly's Special Defense is 6 and 25% of 6 is 1.5. Round 1.5 down to get 1. You then subtract 1 from 6. Starly's Special Defense is now 5 for the remainder of this battle. Linus should make a note of this in Starly's profile.
For a detailed description of Combat Stages, look in the Effect Keywords post in the Moves thread, located in the game system sub-forum.

15(Damage from Smog) - 6(Starly's Special Defense) = 9
Poison Damage: -1/10th of Starly's Max Hp
Starly's Special Defense lowered two Combat Stages.
Starly is still standing.

With that, the first round is over.
It is now the top of the second round and the Trainers have a chance to use their Trainer Actions. Since Henrike's Dexterity skill is higher than Linus's, she gets to go first.
