I've seen some pretty cool Director's Commentaries on dvd's, many that really hold your interest.
Last night I decided, "I'll watch A Nightmare On Elm Street, with the commentary". I've had the movie for a month or so but never got around to watching it with commentary.
I got about half an hour into the movie and found it completely unwatchable, it was so boring, most of it was silence, with Wes Craven, Heather Langenkamp, John Saxon, and some director of photography or something, just sitting there watching the movie, interspersed with Wes saying something so softly and inaudible, and then the D.o.P saying "Yeah I remember that". I don't think I heard one word from John saxon apart from saying "Hi, I'm John Saxon, I played Nancy's Dad" and Heather might've said something about a see through night gown. Geeze it was boring. I mean they didn't even have Robert Englund! I have this Best of Horror dvd, which is introduced by Robert, as well as him doing a commentary for all the scenes from the different movies, and it was extremely interesting, especially when he started doing stuff in his Freddy Krueger voice. I reckon they should've had him come on the commentary. Would've livened things up
Anyway I think probablly one of the greatest dvd commentaries I've seen has got to be on the Clerks: Uncensored dvd. As a matter of fact i think any commentary track by Kevin Smith is amazing. He actually tells stories, and funny things that happened while making the movies, not how much a certain set peice was, or what angle lens they used on a shot.
Also Robert Rodriguez's commentaries on his El Mariachi trilogy were pretty interesting, telling all his little secrets about the easiest ways to do particular parts of the movie and what not.
Another great commentary was on the Smashing Pumpkins Greatest hits dvd. With Billy, James and Jimmy (Can't remember if D'arcy was there or not) but just talking about the ideas behind all the film clips and how they were done (All in all that's just one hell of an excellent cd)
Anyway what's the best or worst Commentary you've seen

I tend not to watch films with commentaries because I get annoyed when I can't hear what they say. They never come with subtitles which means I have to have the volume up super high to hear them and so I have to watch it in the day which is also annoying because I like movies at night so...yeah. I don't think I've ever seen a film with commentary. I saw UHF and Ghostbusters, I think. Uh, can't really recall the best or worst. I just know if it's someone who worked behind the scenes, it's usually not good. xp Sometimes the actors can be bad, too, but they tend to have a few stories to tell anyway. Gotta love the Onion AV Club's "Commentary tracks of the Damned." xd

Hmm...I think the only one I've listened to was on Napoleon Dynamite. It actually made the film funnier for me because the film makers kept saying that everything came from real life events. Like when Pedro makes the cake to ask the girl out, the director says that, in the town where he came from, guys always had to do something creative like that when asking a girl out.

i loooove commentary *_* i think the best i've seen was for 'in the soup' (but thats prolly cause of my undying love for steve buscemi *_*)
i like it better when there is more than one person doing it, 'cause if it's just like one guy it can get boring. the worst i've seen was.. hmmm... prolly 'the 13th floor' it was pretty boring... oh well
