In the end, Light is too full of himself to realize that he is not really Kira. He was simply corrupted with power, as any human being would be if you were given the power he held.

Light lost his true ideals after being the owner of a Death Note and that made him nothing more than a mass murderer. Even if his victims were criminals.

in the beginning of the series light really was trying to change the world for good purposes but then he started to develop a god complex and kill people who got in his way.
