What are some good excercises to help improve speed for attacking and dodging?

All depends on what you like to attack with ... punches ... use a double-ended striking ball or if you have a partner ... focus mitts ... kicks ... well this is a bit harder ... but the use of kick pads (such as the ones used in TKD) will suffice ... though again focus mitts or target mittas will be good also ... defense ... a simple towel will do as your hitting the bag ... or foam pipe liners ... or again mitt work ... it is all a preference ...
