Now I haven't started on this yet, but my plan is to have a list of every ingredient I can find in any item and list them along with whether or not they are vegetarian and/or vegan. I'm going to put the list here, aswell as a link to a program which will work as a search engine.
Just throught I'd announce the idea. If you want to help, you can list items (you don't have to list whether or not they're veg*n, if you don't have the time. I can look it up myself, but a list of some existing ingredients would help me out.)

Thought I'd contribute...
Common Ingredients to watch out for in foods/products that may be considered "vegan."
-Rennet (From calve's stomach, found in some brands of Soy Cheeses) -Whey (dairy product, common ingredient in breads and even margarine) -Casein (Calcium from Animal bones) -Carmine (Red/Purple Dye from crushed Beetles, found in drinks and candies) -Kertain (From various animals and their parts, found in some hair products) - Tallow (Rendered Beef or Sheep fat, found in some margarines, crayons, lipsticks, lubricants, paints, rubbers, candles, soaps, etc..) -Cane Sugar (Can be filtered through animal bone char)
For those of us with sweet teeth, I found this list of popular candies that are vegetarian approved (some are not vegan because they contain carmine and some may contain cane sugar)
Airheads taffy Atkins peanut butter bars Blow Pops Boston Baked Beans Charms lollipops Chick-o-Sticks Cracker Jack Cry Babies Dem Bones Dots Dum-Dums Fireballs Gob Stoppers by Willy Wonka Goldenberg's Peanut Chews Good 'n' Plenty Hot Tamales Hubba Bubba bubblegum Jolly Ranchers (lollipops and hard candy only) Jujubees Jujyfruits Lemonheads Mambas Mary Janes (regular and peanut butter kisses) Mike and Ike Nerds Now and Later Pez Ring Pop lollipops Smarties (not the ones made by Nestle with chocolate!) Sour Patch Kids Spree (original, not the new chewy kind) Starburst (jelly beans and hard candy only!) Super Bubble Swedish Fish Sweet Tarts Tropical Source mini chocolate bags Twizzlers Zotz

Gelatin! Wikipedia says gelatin is: "a protein product derived through partial hydrolysis of the collagen extracted from skin, bones, cartilage, ligaments, etc." I've read somewhere that kosher gelatin is vegetarian safe, but they could be made from anything that didn't used to be a pig (eg. fish, beef, etc.) This page has a list of several vegan gelatin alternatives! That's all I've got for now, toodles! PS. I have no idea why that last link of gelatin alternative listings was on a website called Divorce Kit.

I heard lecithin is bad, but not soy lecithin. I don't remember why, though.

I guess I really shouldn't be all too surprised though. I read a kind of old (probably '70s-'90s) book and it said that the only kellogs brand cereal that was vegetarian safe was one that are discontinued, or at least I never see them. I can't quite remember the name of it though.
