The winds felt right as they tenderly tousled the feathers which made up his wings. Closing the eye that was not hidden beneath red hair he listened to the song of the breeze. He remembered his mother once saying that the wind carried with it the tales of long ago and the spirits of those dearest to us, whether that was truthful or not he was uncertain. He would like to believe that if his mother were dead he would be able to hear her voice every time the wind would blow. He hadn’t been a very good son to her to begin with and had much to say to atone for his actions. Feeling a quiver within his chest he knew he was becoming emotional. With a swift shake of the head he forced the weakness out of his body and opened his gleaming blue eye, taking in the world around him. Never had he ventured to this particular spot before, it held such beauty yet it seemed to hold sorrow as well. Within this field the long grass danced gracefully to the silent music of the breeze and the stars gazed down on him unmercifully. The silver mistress that was the moon shone brightly and fully on this night, perhaps this is what had kept him from sleep. She was an old mistress but always beautiful, had she seen his actions of the past? Rather, did she remember them? With a sigh he lowered himself to the ground taking small joy in the grass that tickled his sides and made him smile. Again the breeze touched him, this time lifting his mane from his neck and causing it to twist and tangle. “Do you speak through the winds father?” He asked the air tenderly.

With a gentle shift of his weight he moved to lying on his side where he closed his eyes and attempted to listen. He had been blessed with a good friend who had taught him how to be better in social situations and to listen to what people were saying before jumping to conclusions. His pride often got in the way but at least he was working on shoving it down. A thought occurred to him that had him opening his eyes and glaring off into the distance. He hadn’t been practicing any of the skills he had wished to accomplish. He still was in need of proving himself worthy of being called his noble father’s son. Though the skills seemed quite trivial they were every bit a step towards making himself as grand and perfect as his father had been. Perhaps if he had only been perfect to begin with he never would have overheard his father’s right hand say what he had. “Is that colt truly your son?” He had laughed after witnessing Roman fail to fly as quickly as his brother and sister had.

Rising to his feet once more he spread his wings and began flapping them as hard as he possibly could. His entire family had been able to lift off into flight without having to take a running start, so he should be able to as well. Lifting from the ground he hovered a moment before the muscular pain in his shoulders became too great and his hooves touched down to the earth once more. Why could he not master something as simple as this? Why?

Eden was wandering, she could think better when she walked. The down side to this was she would get caught up in what she was thinking about and not notice where she was. Not that it was a bad thing, she knew her way home, though as she stopped and looked round now her family would probably be worrying over her being out late like this. Sighing softly to herself she shook her head, it seemed pointless for them to worry about her in such a way, then again thanks to the guardians her herd lands were safer than most areas.

Looking around this place she had found herself she stretched her wings a little and settled them again, nudging at feathers as she does so. She never felt comfortable with her wings on land, they felt awkward to her. Though that changed when she was in the sky, then they would glide easily over the wind currents. Flying had come relatively easy to her, though only once she had gotten bigger, as a foal she had rarely run around flapping her wings, they had felt alien to her.

Looking up from nudging at her feathers as she hears a sound, looking over to see a stallion trying to fly, or thats what it looked like, she was not sure what else it could be. Though logic made her think that it was rare for a stallion to be full grown and be unable to fly so he must have been doing something else. Hesitating to interrupt she shook her head and turned to leave him to whatever he was doing, if he was busy an interruption was probably the last thing he needed, and if he has been trying to fly he would be embarassed to have been seen by another. Either way it wouldn't be good. Looking to see which was the quickest way home from here, not wanting him to see her, though in the moonlight her pail green almost glowed a apple white so she was kind of hard to miss.

(No worries, I will do my best to keep up and not overdo it at the same time. ^^)

A noise, not much louder than the whispering winds sweetly touching the grass of the meadow caused his ears to turn. His muscles tensed as he prepared himself for the unexpected, quivering with uncertainty he turned about. For a moment he was caught off guard by what he rest his eyes upon. A mare of unusual coloring and appearance was crossing the meadow. The only mare he had come across in his nomadic lifestyle was Briallan and this mare looked nothing like her. Straightening himself up and easing his muscles so he was no longer holding the appearance of one who is uncertain he cleared his throat. “Isn’t it a tad late for a mare to be out in the dark by herself?” He often found himself asking the same thing of Briallan. Did mares just not get that as the world became darker so the figures upon its surface did? A mare should either be with a strong stallion when out at night or tucked away in some grove for protection and comfort. Stretching out his wings he gave an indignant flap and folded them once more, approaching the strange figure glowing unusual hues beneath the moonlight. “Is it a female habit to wander around at night?” Rolling his eyes he stopped a few feet from her and examined her more closely.

Her color nearly matched that of freshly growing grass and the wings upon her back were different from his own. Around her neck she wore a strange object, something he hadn’t seen before. Briallan had a flower in her hair but he hadn’t seen something worn about the neck in this manner. Giving her a sidelong glance with the eye not hidden by red mane he took in the unusual markings about her legs and on her neck and even the items tied about her feet. “You have quite an unusual appearance.” He stated absentmindedly, feeling obligated to comment on his observations. “Are you lost or something?” The addition was blunt and rather gruff sounding, yet obvious to the listener that it wasn’t meant to be rude.

Eden had hoped to not be seen, though interruption didn't seem unwelcome, neither did the stallion seem embarrassed. Though this left her wondering what he had been doing, she could simply ask but in reality it was none of her business. Turning back to face him, his comment about females not being safe alone at night rankled a little, it made her wonder if there was a feminist part of her somewhere inside her. Though she shrugged the reaction off easily, it was silly to get worked up over such things, in the end gender only mattered when it came to repoduction, at least to her thinking. After all was it not generally the practice for a mare to run a herd?

She had stood quietly, watching him as he spoke, asking his questions, making his comments and all the time he had been examining her like she had 6 legs and 2 heads. She couldn't understand what looked so different about her, but then she had grown up in a herd that was so mixed and matched that the only unusual thing would be a skinwalker moving in. Finally she gave a very deliberate sigh and looked him in the eye. "No I'm not lost, I am able to actually navigate quite long distances without getting lost, and while your concern is very kind my gender makes little difference in my likelyhood of being attacked and/or eaten. However I must blame my mother for my appearance being her only daughter she finds it delightful to make me looks cute and sweet." Not that Eden wasn't cute or sweet, she just found the accessories impractical, though she liked seeing her mother happy and so she wore them regardless. Only the little heart on her collar was something she would want to always wear as it matched the one her mother wore, though she did wish it was just on a normal chain at times. "But then maybe you are lost?" Her honey gold eyes holding his, this was certainly not a timid or shy mare that was for sure.
