Hello. Anyone here got a favourite mythical creature? Mine would have to be either the centaur, minotaur, faun and/or the minoboar. (A Centaur ^^) (A Minotaur ^^) (A Faun ^^) (A Minoboar ^^) I seem to be fond of the half-breeds. whee

I personally like chimaera creatures, such as griffons, manticore, pegasus, hippogryffs, sphinx, lamia, naga, basilisks, yowie, lycanthropes, harpies, and satyrs.

As far as mythological creatures go, I'd have to say dragons. Label me cliche. I love that almost every culture can brag their own variation.
As far as animals in mythology, birds, namely ravens and hawks beg my fancy, such as Odin's famous scouts. Horses also hold my attention, though not the lighter ones such as Pegasus.
As far as animals with actual names, once more I walk to Norse. I particularly like Sleipnir for the "atmosphere" he creates alongside Odin.

Some of the darker ones are quite interesting. Werewolves would have to be my first love... canine creatures in general, so I've actually got a bit of a soft spot for Fenrir despite the hand business. I'm also interested in kelpies, the water-spirits shaped like horse who drown unwary riders. I'm also trying to find out more about the Sidhe.
Note: sorry for answering old threads, but I am bored out of my head here.

All the wolves from Northern Europian mythos, particularly Fenrir, Hati and Skol. I'm not particularly fond of Geri and Freki as they are more of subdued pets and of course, concidering what they represent they arent all that appealing. And I like Jormorgund (Iormorgund) and Nidhogg. I also like Garm, who is a dog not a wolf. Sleipnir of course. And Hurafn and Murafn (Hugin and Munin)
As for creatures from other regions... I am fond of Hippocampus, Kitsune, Kwaidan, Oni, Obake, Yurei, Ki-Rin, Wyvern, Satyr, Centaur, nymphs, Tuathe de Danaan, Sidhe, Idisi. and many, many others....

I like 'em all almost!
Spirit/God-Deer (or stories like Bambi) Fauns Satyrs Unicorns (all varieties, including the dragonlike Eastern-Unicorns) Pegasus/Pegasi (though I consider Pegasus to actually be a individual Pteriquine or "winged horse"... most people refer to all winged horses as Pegasus, unless it's distinctly a Hippogriff) Centaurs Hippogriffs (horse combined with a bird of prey, like a Griffon but with a horse mixture instead of a panther mix) Griffons Fire-Birds (like phoenixes) Spirit/God-Birds Tengu's Faeries Kitsunes Werwolves (the "loup-garou," lol) Spirit/God-Wolves Spirit/God-Cats/Panthers Vampires Dragons etc etc.... And after recently reading The Minotaur Takes a Cigarette Break, I've gained some newfound respect for the Minotaur.
(Not so sure about the minoboar, though.... pigs are okay, I guess.)
I think part of the problem is that I like pretty much all animals, with the exception of arachnids (except for daddy-long-legs) and, half-heartedly, humans (love 'em, hate 'em...). The list of favorite animals is long...so, so long... sweatdrop ...oh, and there's just something about laughing human babies that i've lately found....irresistable, contagious (that or my biological clock's kicking in a tad early.... eck) Sowwy.

Wow, this is interesting.
Oh right. xd For those who don't know, I'm in the process of making a D&D-esque game that's almost completely different from any other game that's been played, shattering most stereotypes of the creatures in the game. Ex: Dwarves AREN'T bulky little miners with beards, in this game, Abarstab, Dwarves are slender adept jewelers and artists.
Anyways, I had an idea of lycanthrope in this game that I like to run across many a peoples (yes, Abarstab IS copywritted, so don't try taking it XD). What do you say about lycanthopic changes being based upon adrenaline instead of the gaze in the moon?
All input is appreciated ^_^

What do you say about lycanthopic changes being based upon adrenaline instead of the gaze in the moon? All input is appreciated ^_^ Once you do that, you lose the link to silver, though. Silver is the metal of the moon because it is the most reflective metal; this is why it is used against werewolves. In my stories, I use adrenaline as the trigger which enables to lycanthropes to heal so quickly - when the adrenaline is high, their metabolism rises and so cells heal more quickly. However, you can have werewolves that Change at will - and when they get into a high-adrenaline situation, they would be more likely to subconciously want the power of wolf form. Therefore you can quite legitimately have both causes.

Yeah. I'm 21 and I believe in fairies. What you gonna do about it?

Kitsune, griffons, dragons, phoenixes, sphinxes, faeries--I'm probably forgetting some, too.
