History: Axel was raised by his father who was a respected soldier, after an attack that killed the rest of his family. As a child he idolized his father and wanted to follow not only in his footsteps but those of the heroes in the stories his father told him about, the Dai-Gurren Brigade. As a child, Axel's father enrolled him in a military school were his instructors noticed his abilities despite his rather lazy attitude. Due to fact that the military was really the only thing that Axel knew, it was only natural for him to join the military was he was of age.

Personality: Normally Axel is calm, laid back, loyal, strong minded yet open minded and even rather goofy at times. But he steps onto the battlefield it is as if he becomes a completely different person. He becomes a fierce, focused warrior will an unbreakable determination.

Gunman Description: At first the Grapearl Kage, Kage for short, appears to be the standard mass produced Grapearl equipped with the Grapearl's spiral energy rifle, pistol, and sword. That is where the differences end, due to the fact that the Grapearl Kage is more Gunman than Grapearl. It is the result of futher development in spiral energy technology and reverse engineering of Gunman the Grapearl Kage is capable of utilizing the spiral energy of its pilot as a power source.
The Grapearl Kage also features a far more complex operating system compared to just about every other Grapearl or Gunman in existence. The system which allows the pilot's mind to interface directly with the Kage's combat computer. Although the exact nature of the System's operation is unclear, it appears to operate by "sampling" the pilot's thoughts, spiral energy, and combining them with current combat data, presents the pilot with various alternate outcomes. Depending on the pilot's mood and spiral energy, the System could tell Axel how to achieve total victory or decisive defeat. Nevertheless, the mental stresses the System would place on the pilot would be too great for any ordinary human to handle.
