Cinderella Dressed In Yella'...
Plot

They told you you were sick. That something was wrong with you. Of course there is, you're a teenager. But mental diseases? That's not you. I mean, sure there was some wierd stuff happening since you hit puberty, but doesn't that happen to all teenagers?

Well, no. Because you're not actually sick. You have powers that they can make seem like an illness.

Forty years ago there was an experiment done on a number of college students, who needed some extra cash. They were given a drug that was supposed to help activate a part of the brain normally dead. They wanted to enhance this part. The drug was supposed to activate the part of the brain that would make someone 'psychic'. They wanted to be able to imbue these people with powers, unique to their own DNA.

The experiment failed, with no reactions occuring. Or so they thought.

As the subjects grew older, graduated, made lives for themselves one of the interns helping with the experiment followed a group of six. She tracked them. They began developing strange gifts, that were quite unnoticible. In fact, some of them didn't notice. But Miranda Krenton did. She, the intern, became obsessed with tracking their every move and founded the Krenton Institute, an organization that was top secret. She noted that as these subjects grew older, their powers seemed to increase slightly.

And then came the children.

She followed them, studying them with her many eyes and ears across the country. She was ready to give up when they showed no signs of any abilities. Until the first hit puberty. The power had been transferred from parent to child and amplified in the process.

Miranda Krenton then founded 'Krenton Youth Home'.

There were two that they caught first, able to convince their parents that they were mentally diseased. A water manipulator and a medium. They tried to escape. They were terminated.

Six children remain, and they have been tracked and enrolled in Krenton Youth Home.

They have been diagnosed with 'mental conditions' and are being treated. Only the treatment is only to amplify but control their powers. And the best part? The children are all blissfully unaware.

Sarcastic, Understanding, Passionate
Name Evelyn Taylors (Nephthys Angel)
Age seventeen
Diagnosis schizophrenia
Abilities telepathy, thought manipulation
Parent Marianne Schumacker
Parent's Abilities signs of telepathy. showed incredible 'people reading' abilities.
History Evelyn, usually known as "Evy" had a fairly normal childhood. Her parents had divorced when she was a toddler, but she got to see her dad over the weekends (when he wasn't working that is) and lived with her mom for the majority of the year. Her mom was--in Evy's eyes anyway--one of the coolest moms in the world; somehow she always knew when to give her a hug or to just leave her alone. Her father remarried when Evy was 12 and when she was 13, she became the proud sister of a new baby step-brother.

Evy loves the theatre--her mom would sometimes walk into Evy's room to see her daughter acting out scenes from books or movies in front of the mirror. She dreams of one day acting on Broadway or other large stages before huge crowds; thus when she was cast as the lead role for the school play, it was like a dream come true. But not everything was going the way she'd hoped...

When she had turned 12, she'd begun to hear the occasional whisper as she called them. Usually she paid no mind to them as they were hard to differentiate from background conversation; but over time they became more frequent. During one memorable rehearsal, she spun around and snapped to a silent cast member to shut up and that she had not been cast out of pity.

Evy was brought before the school psychologist where she tried--very calmly-- to explain to him that the cast member had been talking viciously about her behind her back. He was very sympathetic and began a file for her, labeling her as possibly being schizophrenic and referring her for counseling. Evy's mom was approached later that week by a representative of the youth's home who offered a way to help Evy with her condition. Marianne eventually agreed, much to Evy's dismay and now, she's here.

Personality Evy has a flair for the dramatic--which stems from her passion about acting. She talks very animatedly--often using her hands and making facial expressions to embellish whatever she's talking about at the time. She's usually very blunt, sometimes to the point of being extremely rude and dislikes liars. If its pointed out that acting and lying are, in some senses, very similar--she will retort that acting is story-telling to entertain while lying is story-telling to "get your a** out of trouble"

While Evy can be extremely snarky and sarcastic when she's annoyed (which she is a lot these days it seems) she's as loyal of a friend as one could hope for; lending an ear or a shoulder when you need it or telling off that jerk who made you cry. She's also very hard on herself when she doesn't meet the high standards she sets for herself--even if these standards are unrealistic.

Confident, Funny, Slacker
Name: Jake Hart
Age: Seventeen
Diagnosis: Aggression issues
Abilities:
Telekinesis- The ability to move objects with one's mind.
Sound Energy Manipulation- The ability to control sound. Amplify, Silence, Mimic.
Parent: Elizabeth Greene
Parent's Abilities: signs of telekinesis. Passed off as quick reflexes and luck.
History: Jake was born out of wedlock. He took his father's last name, and his mother found love elsewhere and eloped to marry a plumber. It left his father very bitter and he's heard nothing but bad about his mother ever since. Luckily enough his father never took it out on him, instead being a good and dutiful parent and raising him through the years. Jake was given anything he asked for, his father was a lawyer and he could afford it.

When he turned fifteen he went into a rebellious stage, ditching class to do other things like hang out at the mall near his house, or go to the skate park. No one told him what to do. He had a full dose of freedom and it was addictive. Then he started getting into fights. If anyone told him what to do he'd tell them what they could do with their orders and finally he started throwing punches to defend himself. When he was sixteen he was jumped by three boys. It was too much, and in his frustration and fear at possibly getting his a** handed to him, he screamed. He didn't know what happened, but afterwards when he'd opened his eyes the ground was cracked and the boys were bleeding from quite a few places.

When he told the people at the hospital and police station what he thought had happened, that they'd just ended up like that when he opened his eyes they all gave him odd looks. He laid low for a while, thinking it over and wondering what had happened. He went to school, didn't do his homework, came home late. His father finally confronted him, telling him if he didn't buckle down he was never going to make a life for himself. They argued. Jake went into his room and slammed the door so hard it flew off it's hinges. He didn't understand how he'd done it, but the door had broken.

After a few more odd instances and another few kids getting injured, the people from Krenton Youth Home came for him, convincing his father he was too much for him to handle. Now Jake resides here, doing just enough to get by, no more.
Personality: He's mostly friendly, as long as no one tries to tell him what to do. As soon as you give him an order he'll turn from smiling to death stare. He hasn't quite outgrown the rebellious phase. He's lazy, he likes to complain, he acts confident, which he is. He's not sure how the things that happened to him did happen, but because of them it's only fueled his ego and his belief that he shouldn't have to listen to anyone.

He can be obnoxious, but a lot of the time he'd rather just do his own thing than bother someone he doesn't like or who doesn't like him. He wants to be happy and be able to do what makes him happy. He doesn't want to fight people, but he also doesn't want to do as he's told and that is what ends up sparking fights between him and others. He will never throw the first punch.
Notes: He likes licorice and sometimes the people at the home will bribe him with it to do as they ask. He knows it's a bribe, but he'll usually take it and be peaceful.

Creative, Tempermental, Antisocial
Name Alexia Casey (MoonWolf96)
Age Sixteen
Diagnosis Antisocial Personality Disorder
Abilities
Empath-Can sense others peoples emotions
Emotion & Action Manipulation-through vocalizations, also known as Charmspeak.
ParentLinda Casey
Parent's Abilities Signs of empathy, successful child psychologist
History Even before thirteen, Alexia was slightly off, not enough to notice but small things that would make you stare for a few more seconds. One thing was that she was fairly quite, almost too quite for a child. Always with the pencils and paints or outside, quite and alone. No one would say anything; there wasn’t anything really that wrong with it. They made up the rational explanation that she was simply shy. An after affect of such a popular mother. It was Ironic, Alexia had successful child psychologist for a mother yet she was…strange. What people didn’t know was that it was her subconscious way of preparing for the future.

When she did convert from a child to a teen everything just magnified and hell broke loose. From the very beginning she was considered bipolar, the shift of negative emotions always clear on her face. It wasn’t her fault, if anyone it was her mother, her own emotions were rapidly affected by ones of the people around her. The closer she was with that person the worst it got; Alexia had already isolated herself from her parents. It was easy enough considering her mother was consumed by her work and her father refused to question it.
Home it was easy, school was much harder. Student were everywhere, in class the constant tempest of emotions would often rile her up to her breaking point causing her to storm out off the classroom in search of an escape. One day she found that escape through art. It was a way for her to record the emotions that were truly her, giving her some sort of stability. If anything it made things worse, jealousy and ignorance were obvious among her peers causing multiple fights, giving evidence of reckless and violent behaviour.

The final straw was draw by another girl whom Alexis had a lot of history with, bad history. There was already a long list of offences against her because of this girl, vandalism and bodily harm being the main ones but there was one fight that ended it all. The reason that the fight started had been long forgotten but her final words to the girl were still clear in her mind. It was hard to overlook the words when news of the girls suicide and been linked effortlessly to the hateful comment that had been said.

After that Alexia was tried for murder but after pleading insanity and being diagnosed with Antisocial Personality Disorder she was sent Krenton Youth Home by request of her mother. With that signed off Alexia Casey’s fate was sealed.

Personality At sixteen, Alexia is confirmed to be neurotic and bipolar. Her mood and in effect her personalities change in accordance to the people she’s around. Usually she is withdrawn but can be quite vicious when rubbed to wrong way. Although that is how she acts it’s only a defence mechanism to keep people away from her. Inside she is quite child like, afraid of everything and everyone and clingy to one person and them alone.

Being unable to turn to people, Alexia is quite partial to her music and will almost always be seen with head phone in. The easiest way to see her true personality is through her creative way.
She expresses her self through quite a few medias including drawings, instrument as well as singing, textiles, fashion and writing.

Her currents favourites are her sketch pad and charcoal pencils and a redwood acoustic guitar that she received on her sixteenth birthday.
Notes Alexia smokes, especially when stressed, which is quite often.

Intelligent, Analytical, Determined
Name Myles Whitby (Burlesque Nightmare)
Age Sixteen
Diagnosis Manic Depressive
Abilities
Psychometry; Ability to read the history of a person, location or thing. Limitations: Can only read events related to death.
Memory manipulation; Ability to alter the memory of a living creature. Limitations: Can only alter fresh memories, made in the last 48 hours.
Parent Brittany Little
Parent's Abilities signs of psychometry, great 'storyteller', history professor
History Myles grew up in the rich part of town. His mom had married a rich lawyer, and came into a great deal of money. He and his dad didn't really get along, although with their different interests, it was to be expected. When his dad died in a car accident a little after his eighth birthday, he and his mom inherited more money, and they lived together alone for two years, But, around the age of twelve, he hit puberty.

The small insignificant changes he went through were different to most, although he paid it no mind and continued with life normally, believing that what happened was normal. Often, he would get blinding headaches in certain places, like alleyways he passed and even the occasional lake. These were always followed by strange scenes playing through his mind like an old movie; visions of deaths that had once happened, almost as if they were his own memories.

Other times, it appeared as though his friend's memories were changed. For example, once, his friend Jackson's father had died, and then, within a moment, Jackson was talking about how great it would be to see his father over the weekend, as he was planning.

But one day, his mother was approached as she was leaving work. They told her that they had noticed how increasingly withdrawn Myles was becoming, and convinced her that it was a sign of Manic Depression. They explained to her that they worked for a Youth Home which could help support him and get him back on track. Before he knew it, he was stuck there.
Personality Myles has an air of intelligence and wit, with extreme confidence in the facts. He isn't a bookworm, per say, more that he just loves to read. But despite this, he is not geeky and most definately not unpopular. He knows how to make his friends laugh, and has such a calming presence that everyone usually turns to him for advice. He has a kind, if slightly taunting nature, and usually attracts attention from some of the best people.

But despite all this, he is definately not all smiles. He knows how to be serious and cold when needed, and is often quite sarcastic and bitter at some of the worse times, and is the most God-damn stubborn person you could ever meet.

Friendly, Compassionate, Emotional
Name Friday Monroe (octoberswan)
Age fifteen
Diagnosis pyromania
Abilities
Technopathy Ability to manipulate electronics
Electro-kinesis Ability to manipulate electricity
Parent Samuel Monroe
Parent's Abilities signs of empathy, succcessful child psychologist
History Friday was raised by two gay dads. She doesn't know who her biological mother is. She was brought up in a comfortable, loving home. Her dad's didn't make a ton of money, but they always had a little extra for those things Friday really found a passion for. She discovered that she loved video games, and had a talent for remixing music. So her room was decked out with all the latest djay systems, and videogame consoles. At school she was regarded as wierd, and outcasted because of her dads. She didn't really mind though, it meant the friends she did have were real.

Friday was djaying a school dance one night, and doing a good job. People were complimenting her, and she felt oddly accepted. Until someone came up to her and dumped a glass of punch on her for 'showing her face at this dance'. She was really upset, and she doesn't know how, but the sound system blew. Literally blew. The dance went up in flames. She was charged with arson, but instead of jail time ended up here.

Personality Friday is very friendly. She doesn't purposely make enemies, and even then isn't vicious towards them. She just doesn't try to get in their way. She's loyal to her friends and will stand up to them, even if that means getting physical. She's not shy in any sense of the word, but she hates being embarassed. She is incredibly clumsy.

Friday is a hopeless romantic who has a habit of falling for the first guy who smiles at her sideways, whether or not that's good for her. She loves feeling accepted and appreciated, and pushes herself to be her best for that reason. She is emotionally unstable, getting upset at minor things because she lets all of her anger and sadness pile up until she snaps. When she is angry, sad, happy or confused, she'll cry if the emotion is strong enough.

Loud, Honest, Spoiled
Name Daniel Frett (Fury the Fuhrer)
Age fifteen
Diagnosis Bipolar
Abilities
Precognition- Ability so see the future. Limitations Can only see the future of others, and only those bits that relate to him without him being in it. Can not see more than three days ahead.
Luck Manipulation Able to manipulate luck. Limitations the luck is influenced randomly positively or negatively.
Parent Bridgit Thomas
Parent's Abilities signs of precognition, lottery winner
History Daniel grew up with a fairly normal life. His mother hit the lottery when he was still very young, so he never really went without. His father still worked, was a technician for some phone company. Life was pretty good.

It wasn't until after he turned twelve and started to go through puberty that things started to change. He would get random migraines, cripplingly strong. These would put him into foul moods for days, as they lasted for days, and then once they were gone he was back to his regular happy go lucky self.

It was about two months ago that he was approached by someone about his headaches, well, his mother was approached. They told her that they were a sign that Daniel could be becoming Bipolar, and that they worked for a youths home that could treat it before it got too serious. The next thing he knew, he was enrolled.
Personality Daniel is a seemingly normal teenager, not having any knowledge of his powers. He is very friendly and open. He hates when people judge others for their short comings and has gotten into a couple of fights over that. His migraines have a tendency to make him an a**. Almost a completely different person in the blink of an eye, hence why his parents believed the line about Bipolarism, but Daniel suspects there is more going on than what is being shown.

Don't let Daniels outward appearance fool you though, he can be very conniving and deceitful, if it works to his advantage. Though he doesn't do this much, he is very talented at it. He is also a bit of a romantic, fantasizing about meeting that one person that he is supposed to be with, though he knows it will never happen while he is here, who could love someone who is mentally deficient?

  • She hates being addressed as Miranda, but wants to be friendly with the teens, despite her growing hatred and buried fear of them and their powers. She wants just one mole on the inside, who can tell her how things are going. She just has to entrap one of the students.
  • She's very aware of her looks, and is not ashamed to use them to her advantage. That's how she got Greg working for her.

Toby Shay- teacher, kind hearted, oblivious to the alterior motives behind the home. (Orlando Bloom)
  • Toby- as he tells everyone to call him- is the science/math/history teacher. He likes letting people express themselves, but if someone is causing trouble he isn't afraid to tease them a little bit. He has a habit of trying to embarass the students, versus yelling or punishing them.
  • He is very much in love with his wife.
  • He is a smoker, though he would not encourage people to start, it's a habit that is hard to break. However, he does not try to get people to stop, and he feels bad for smokers stuck in places like these because they aren't supposed to have their cigarettes. • The only person he feels an emotional attachment to is Molly, he reminds her of what his daughter could have been (she passed away during childbirth, the baby not surviving either). He is very friendly around her, laughing and smiling. He is only ever professional around everyone else.
  • He has a habit of appearing out of nowhere, when students are misbehaving or even just thinking about it. It's as if he just knows...
  • Strongly dislikes Toby, due to his protective nature when it comes to Molly.
  • Favourite Student: None as of yet.

  • Miss Briggs- she's single fellas- is very talkative, but very awkward. Sometimes she'll get talking about her own relationship issues, and forget that she was talking about someones twisted ankle at first. She's got a pile of ex boyfriends that she's always telling stories about.
  • She only started working at Krenton because Greg was. She's got a crush on him, but is reluctant to say anything because of... complications.
  • She's a caffiene addict, and can get really grouchy when she hasn't had her coffee.

  • Greg seems like a pretty cool guy. And he is. But he hates teenagers. He's only working here because it pays well and Miranda asked him to. He treats the teens alright though, and is fantastic at pretending like he likes their company.

Friday Monroe

Judging by your body language and shoddy cursive I've been reading...

Friday sat with her headphones on in the backseat of the car. Her music was off, but she wanted to hear what her fathers were saying, if they chose to talk. But the car ride was silent even as they pulled up to the front of the house. Friday pulled the buds out of her ears and gripped her iPod tightly in her hands. She had to turn it over, she knew, once she was inside. Tears pressed against her eyes as she watched a woman with blonde hair approaching.

"The fire wasn't my fault." She said, as she'd been saying again and again the past few weeks. And it hadn't been. She didn't do anything! She just got really mad, and then, in a completely unrelated freak accident the speakers had burst into flames and the music had turned into hateful metal. The b***h who had doused her with punch probably got some on her equipment. She didn't belong here.

"We know, sweetie." Both of her dads spoke at the same time. Then Jay spoke, "But it's this or juvie, and we even let you pick. You'll love it here. Your room is purple. Your favourite colour." Both of the men smiled back at her, and she leaned forward to kiss them both on the cheek. "I love you." she told them both. She stepped out of the car as Jay came around to pull her bags out of the tunk. Sam then came out to give her a hug.

Miss Krenton smiled at them, touching her hand to her heart. "I promise you she's in good hands now." She gestured at the house, "Say goodbye now, Friday, and I'll show you inside." She shook hands with the two men before Friday pulled them into a final hug. She looked at them teary eyed. "Friday's child is loving and giving. You guys taught me that. Even if I can't get anything out of being here for myself, I can still help the others, right?"

Following the goodbye, she followed Miss Krenton into the house. The whole time the blonde woman was talking quickly in a horribly upbeat voice. "Miss Krenton, sorry to interrupt-"

"No, go on. But call me Miranda."

My dads already saw the place. It's beautiful. But I literally have a hand drawn map of it. I know my room is purple. May I go lay down, I'm really tired. Oh, here." She passed her iPod over to the woman. The woman took it, and smiled at her. "Friday, that was very honest of you. You've earned it back." She passed her back her iPod. Friday felt happy, but also doubtful. It couldn't just be that easy. "Make sure you check the bulletin board for your chores list and appointment times. The others will be here soon." The blonde flounced back to the entrance to greet the next arrival.

Friday hauled her bags up the stairs after passing through the den. It really was beautiful. And when she finally made it to the thid floor, her jaw dropped. The rec room was amazing! There was an xbox, a giant television and a balcony. She knew that the bedrooms were on the next floor, and knew that's where she had to go. She barely glanced in her room, she just dumped her stuff and closed the door before running over to the edge of the balcony. "I may just learn to like this room." she said, staring over the equipment. "I wonder where the music turns on..." She stepped down the stairs and moved towards the coffee table, sitting on the couch. She yawned slightly, and stretched. Maybe she'd take a nap first. It was just a climb to her room.

Instead she plugged her headphones in and turned on one of her playlists. She kicked off her boots and slid them under the table before picking up her feet and laying down on the couch. She put her hands under her head and stared at the cieling, as someone might when cloud watching, or stargazing. This was a nice room, even if this wasn't a nice place. She zoned out as her music played, closing her eyes and blocking out the world. Or at least trying to.

No, REALLY!

Daniel lay on his bed, Beasty Boys could be heard softly in the back ground. He never listened to music loud, just loud enough to be background noise. He was almost asleep when he heard a door shut from outside, causing him to stir. He swung his feet off of his bed and walked to the window, looking at the car that had pulled up and spotted a girl getting out. Then he spotted Krenton and knew that this girl was coming to live here, like he did four months ago.

Had it been four months? And so far he was the only one here. He had thought that was odd, but he learned quickly not to question things here. They were always met with either lies or discipline. He didn't care for either.

He heard footsteps on the stairs a few moments later, and contemplated stepping out to greet the girl, but he decided against it, knowing their paths would cross eventually. He moved over to his stereo, hitting the CD change button and the a few moments later Moonlight Sonata began to pour from his speakers. This was music he liked loud, so he turned the volume up, but decided not to play it too loud as to not bother the new girl.

At this Daniel moved back to his bed and flung himself down, closing his eyes once again.

She was annoyed, but wasn't that the story of her life? Well, part of it at any rate--this entire week had been lame. The brown haired girl sighed softly, her breath fogging up the glass of the window. And why wouldn't her mom SAY anything? Not that anything she could say would help Evelyn feel any less annoyed with her...

I guess most of it is my fault she thought, her eyes staring unfocused at the blurring scenery as it whizzed by.But its not as if I hit him, I only yelled at him... And I swear he said it. It wasn't the first time either. From the seat next to her, her mother sighed quietly, "This is for your own good love. It won't be so bad, and its not forever. Evy gave her mother a dubious glare before turning back to the window.

"I just don't understand why I can't do this counselling stuff at home." she muttered."I'm not going to argue with you. Just trust me love, its for your own good. Evy rolled her eyes, that was an excuse not an explanation.

The rest of the car ride was silent, save for the radio which played its selection of songs--country one mostly, her mom's favorite type of music-- along with the occasional commercial.

Eventually the small car pulled up to the front of the large house. Evy reluctantly unclipped her seat belt and opened the car door, shivering slightly as he skin got used to the cool air after the warm car. Her boots crunched on the driveway as she walked around to the trunk to pull her bags out.

Her mother had already opened the back hatch and had pulled out one of the two dufflebags. Evy reached in and grabbed the second one before facing her mother again, and was annoyed to realize her eyes had started to water. She hated crying.

Marianne drew her close,"I love you she said, "Please don't be too angry with me. Evy hugged her back, "I love you too mom.... she whispered.

"Pardon me for interrupting... an unfamiliar voice began. Evy looked up curiously to see a man, whom she assumed to be one of the staff standing there, an apologetic look on his kind face. "My name is Mr. Shay, I'm one of the teachers here.

Evy bit her lip and picked her dufflebag back up, gently taking the other one from her mom. "I'm Marianne Taylors, and this is my daughter, Evelyn." the adults shook hands. "Your daughter will be in good hands, Mrs. Taylors." Mr. Shay said before turning to Evy, "Would you like me to show you around?"

Evy forced a small smile, he seemed nice enough, and nodded, "I'd like to put my stuff down first though, if that's ok... He smiled, I can understand. You don't have any electronics? "Does my DS count?" Evy asked, suddenly a little worried. When he nodded, she sighed before opening one of her bags. She dug around in it for a moment, pushing aside books and clothing, before she finally found its case that stored it and the 3 or 4 games she owned. Evy passed it over, feeling a little confused about why she had to do so.

He looked over at the books that were visible from her bags, "You like to read? he inquired and she nodded, I love reading. she said and he smiled, "If you run out of books to read and we don't have the one you're looking for in the library, ask me about it and I'll see if I can get it for you" he chuckled, "With reason of course."

Evy smiled, not a forced one this time, Thanks Mr. Shay. Her mother coughed, "I need to go love. she said softly. Evy gave her one more long hug before Marianne got back in the car and drove away.

Evy followed the teacher as he showed her around the ground floor, explaining the functions of each room. She nodded occasionally but for the most part stayed silent, observing the building that would house her for an indefinite amount of time. ...and be sure to check the bulletin board as it will have chores posted along with other announcements Evy nodded, "I will she said.

"The bedrooms are on the third floor, as is the library... do you have any questions? she shook her head. "Your room is the Pink Room, would you like me to show it to you or would you prefer to find it on your own?" Evy shook her head, I'll manage. Thank you Mr. Shay.

She made her way over to the stairs and began the long climb up and up until she reached the third floor. The pink room huh? Evy didn't like the color pink, but she didn't particularly hate it either. "I nothing it." she decided, before she realized she'd said that aloud. Oops. Hopefully no one had heard her... Guessing on the door, she chose one and discovered that it was indeed the Pink Room... and they weren't kidding when they called it pink...

At least there was white to balance it out. Another bonus was that it was a pale shade rather than the Pepto-Bismol color she realized she'd been dreading. She dropped her bags next to the bed and began to explore the room.

To her delighted surprise, she discovered a door that lead to a balcony. "This would be a cool spot for reading...in better weather" she said, speaking aloud again.

Perhaps she might not hate it here after all?

He stared at the blue sky, a cloud drifting sadly off in the distance. He didn't look at the man driving him. He didn't know this man. He'd nicknamed him the Babysitter though. What else could he call him? He'd shown up in a gray car to pick him up. He'd looked over his backpack and dufflebag. He'd gone through his things after Jake had already told him he hadn't packed any electronics. He'd giving his cell phone to his father the night before, tucked away his laptop under his matress, hidden his DS and PSP in his sock drawer. He hadn't wanted anyone taking them while he was gone. He'd left his iPod, instead opting for a notebook with good old fashioned paper and a handful of pens.

He planned on writing while he was here... or taking up drawing. He knew he'd have to do something from going crazy. What did they expect though? If you take away a child's entertainment what left was there besides violence and nudity the good old fashioned way? In real life. He didn't plan on starting any fights or too much trouble, but it was rubbing him the wrong way. All of this. He didn't think he was crazy. He'd considered it. He'd thought often enough to himself that crazy people usually thought they were sane enough. Did that mean he was crazy? The thought only depressed him. He was sure he wasn't crazy, but if the world said you had mental problems, who were you to tell them otherwise without looking... well, you know.

They pulled up outside of a nice enough looking building. A car was pulling away and a girl and man were walking inside. He just cat sight of the man walking after her inside. Looks like he was on his own. As soon as the car stopped he jumped out, going around to the back as his babysitter popped the trunk. The man almost asked him something, but Jake already had his backpack slung on his shoulder and his duffle bag hanging on the other. He headed for the doors, pulling them open and heading inside. He jetted for the stairs, deciding to hole up in his new cell until someone came to get him and tell him what to do. He dug a piece of paper out of his pocket.

He'd memorized the paper over the last few days. He was in the Red Room. Sounded angry. He wondered if they were trying to be funny. Did they put sad people in the Blue room? He skipped up the steps, stopping at the rec room. He froze at the top of the stairs, looking over the TV and Xbox. XBOX. Oh THANK GOD! He dropped his bags, walking forward like he'd seen his long lost loved. He dropped to his knees, examining the controller and pressing the Xbox on. The sweet ping and the little flas of green light was more than he could have ever hoped for. He stood, turning to the couch where... a girl was laying. How had he not seen her? His thumb stroked the controller in his hand and he remembered what could have possibly distracted him.

He stepped closer, his mood drastically increased. He grinned at her, kicking the couch gently so it wasn't anything more than a tremor through the furniture to get her attention. "Hey. This seat taken?" His grin was fairly heart warming. No, that wasn't right. Charming? Yes. Dashing? Yeah. His mood and the aura of pleased happiness around him probably helped too. As did the halo of golden light gleaming around him from the windows. He wondered if it was safe to shake the girl's hand. Were the other kids here safe to interact with? Talk to? Or were they seriously crazy?

"I'm Jake. Aggression Issues. What's your label?" He talked a bit louder than he needed, hoping to be heard over her iPod... Why did she have an iPod? Kind of unfair... Did they have them in the rec room or something? He'd have to question it later. He didn't know whether to take the dubbed insanities crazy or not, so he might as well start investigating himself. He knew what he'd be writing down in his notebook now...

Judging by your body language and shoddy cursive I've been reading...

Friday opened her eyes and looked up at the blonde haired boy standing over her. She smiled back at him, unknowingly and sat up, sliding over to make room for him. With a smile still on her face she shrugged and said quite cheerfully, "Pyromania." She turned to see the Xbox screen flash across the television and felt her heart lift.

"What're you playing?" She didn't take her eyes from the screen. She chewed on her lower lip for a minute and then figured out what was bothering her. "Oh yeah, also, my name is Friday. Forgot to mention that before." A slight pink blushed crawled onto her cheeks. Friday often chewed on her lip when thoughtful or nervous, and she blushed at a lot of things.

The song changed on her iPod, and she realized the white earbuds were still in. Dropping her gaze to her knees and pulling her headphones out she quietly apologized for being rude, before wrapping the headphones around the device and setting it on the table. She mentally took a deep breath. 'Okay, Friday. Stop being awkward.' Her upper lip came down over her lower lip as she glanced back up to the television. The blonde haired girl forced herself to be quiet, so that Jake could have an issue to talk.

'Wait... agression issues?' Should she be talking to him? He wouldn't like... hurt her or anything, right? She had no clue, she'd never dealt with really aggressive people. Well, besides that b***h who threw punch on her at the dance, but that didn't really count, did it?

A firestarter? Hmmm, well that wasn't too bad. He'd never met a pyromaniac though, only had friends who claimed they were pyromaniacs. Who didn't like setting things on fire? He himself had been guilty of burning things when he was little. He'd sneak off into the backyard with a few pieces of paper and burn them. Of course the first time him father caught him doing it he'd told him if he was going to burn thing he should burn them right and showed him how to dig a hole and make a pit in the dirt where he could burn things. His father just told him to be careful and have the hose ready in case something bad happened. He'd even been to a bonfire once or twice. They hadn't been his fires, but there was something about fire that was just... interesting. It was powerful, awesome. It could keep you warm, cook your food, or destroy your house.

"Well, Halo three is what's in right now, so I guess Halo. Wanna play?" He grabbed the second controller, holding it out to her and still too excited about video games and electronics to feel anything if she refused. Her name was Friday. "Nice name. I've always liked fridays. The start of the weekend. The bringer of good in my book." He slipped into the couch next to her, not catching her nervousness. He didn't get nervous too often. He did get nervous in front of large crowds if he had to make a speech or something. They made him uncomfortable. He didn't like playing the leader. Just like he didn't like taking orders he didn't like having to tell people what to do.

His eyes locked on the TV, His fingers flying over the controller as he started setting up his profile and making his character, changing the color on the armor to red and making his symbol a black cat with a red top hat. He waited for her to do the same, leaning back into the couch and relaxing. There wasn't a hint of aggression in him. not in his expression or body language, but that didn't mean she'd be put at ease. But he didn't take his label seriously, so he didn't know it might bother anyone else.

Judging by your body language and shoddy cursive I've been reading...

The look on his face, the tone of his voice, the way he smiled and talked to her... none of it read 'aggression'. At that moment Friday couldn't help but wonder if he was in a situation similar to hers. The idea of having that in common with someone was nice, especially in a place like this. To have one person, even just one, that you could relate to about not being crazy in a place like this would help Friday keep that status of being non-crazy.

Eyes flicking back to the screen at the mention of halo, she smiled internally. She accepted the controller, and felt the corner of her mouth flick upwards into a smile. "Halo, huh? I've never played it, but I'm pretty good a video games. You may have to help me figure everthing out." When he talked about her name she chuckled slightly. "I'm just glad my name is Wednesday." Her voice implied that there was something to be noticed about her last statement. Would he recognize that she was saying that because of the rhyme? 'Wednesday's child is full of woe' was the line.

Now, when Friday said she was 'good at video games' she wasn't quite true. Often she pinned it on beginners luck when playing a new game, but even the very first time she played a game it seemed to go her way. Yeah, sure, when she wasn't that into a game she sucked. But playing with somebody else, something inside of her just... sparked. Could people be 'destined' to play video games? It was like her and her consoles had a special connection.
