Also known as Imbolc, Oimelc, Candlemas, Anagantios... probably a few other names I can't think of now.

So how many people are doing something for this, and what are you doing? Any thoughts on the holiday and its meaning? How do you usually celebrate, if you celebrate at all?

I celebrate Freyfaxi and Lammas at this time of year.

The feeding of the springs happens on the 25th.

I'm calling the holiday Anagantios for now, after the month it takes place in on the Coligney Calendar. It's possible that the Gauls didn't celebrate it at all, but it's sort of ingrained in my brain from other Celtic Reconstructionist paths. I usually offer prayers and songs to Brigindona and do things like inviting the goddess to the "hearth" of my home (I don't really have a hearth) and make preparations looking forward to the first arrival of spring in a few months, usually by cleaning and reorganizing my living space. If I had a hearth I would probably do something surrounding that, but unfortunately I can't have fire in my building.

What is Freyfaxi? I haven't heard of that, although I'd guess that it's connected to the harvest in some way... Or am I completely wrong about that?

Would you mind elaborating a little on this?

Heh, it's probably not that much of a recon festival. I tend to add or incorporate quite a few holidays, though, because I enjoy holidays. End of summer, beginning of autumn. I tend to honour Thor and Sif as well as Freyr.

I celebrate Lammas too. ^^
Which reminds me...I have to get a wriggle on and plan something...

I usually celebrate Imbolc the beginning of Feb, and I usually go by the astronomical dates rather than "traditional" days. For me Imbolc is the time for "spring cleaning". So even though it's still cold and (depending on where one lives) still might be snowing, it's time to start clearing away the old, to get ready for the new planting (literal planting or metaphorical) that you will be doing in the spring. Though in truth lately (due to some personal issues) my celebrations have not been much more than a "hey it's a sabbat", with a general nod to the Lord and Lady. sweatdrop

Hmm. I like to make candles for Imbolc. I also tend to make a new offering for my Bríd shrine, and prepare to unveil her and close down my Callieach shrine for the year. If I have wheat straw I make Bríd's crosses. I tend to clean up all my shrines and altars, and my magical tools and jewelry.

I need to make a new priapic wand this year. I don't know if I'll make a Bride's bed this year, since I never got out to glean new wheat in late summer.

We're still up in the air about a coven meeting or not. Weather typically makes travelling dangerous at this time of year, and unpredictable, so we usually end up not having one. If I'm at home I'll light a candle in every window, and have my own small ritual and feast.
