A wicked laughter echoed throughout the dark woods. A pale moonlight beamed through the leaves and branches of trees. The tree's bark was painted red with blood. Bodies littered the ground as a man swiftly dances across the ground. His knife moving too fast for the others to see. They fell, men and woman fell one after another. The blood sprayed out from the wounds, the man only laughed more. "The blood..." Mumbled the man as he walked across the bodies. "It makes me feel so good..." He walked into the moonlight. The knife was curved, and stained red. He had red hair that went down to his shoulders, it covered most of his face. He wore ragged clothing that hung loosely on him, the clothing was also stained with blood. He wore no shoes, and his feet were also stained with blood. He looked up to the moon, his hair fell back to reveal a menacing grin. "Justice and injustice...It's all the same." He snickered, and walked deeper into the woods. "Time time time! Why is there always so much of it when the fun is over?" He returned the knife to a small sheath at his side, and his grin began to disappear. He look back up through the branches at the pale moon that gazed down at him. He stood and stared for several minutes, then returned to his walk.
"Good, good! Keep going!" Exclaimed a man who was sitting on the ground. He wore a tunic, and had a lying at his side. He had short brown hair, and looked to be in his mid-thirties. He watched a room filled with people of all ages. They had wooden swords, and practiced on each other. They were all dressed in different clothing, some were from the streets, others middle-class, and even some nobles.
"Damn!" Shouted a man, as he looked down at his wooden blade, which was missing it's top half. "I broke it again..." He wore loose clothing, and had black hair that almost went down to his eyes. He looked to be in his twenties. His sparring partner only sighed, she leaned against her blade.
"Your way too reckless." Said the woman, who had long brown hair, and wore clothing that resembled his, only a little cleaner. She looked to be the same age as him. "You have to focus when you strike, not put all your power into it and hope it works!"
"But-" She hit him on the head. "Ow..."
"Idiot! Don't complain, just take my advice and find a new sword so we can continue sparring again, Benkei." Said the woman.
"Fine fine..." Mumbled the man, know known as Benkei. He walked off to the man who was sitting and watching everyone. "Master...-"
"What is it?" Asked the man in an irritated tone. He looked at Benkei, and his eyes were immediately drawn to his broken sword. "Again?"
"Again..."
"You need much more training if you want to become a knight of the this kingdom." Said the man.
"Yes, Master..."
The man sighed, "but don't get down. You show a lot of potential, you'll be fine if you learn to focus." Said the man, as he pushed himself up. He walked over and picked up a wooden blade from the ground and handed it to Benkei.
"Thanks." Benkei dropped the remains of his broken sword and ran back with his new one. "Soyen, I'm back!" Shouted Benkei, when he got closer to the woman, who was know known as Soyen.
"It's about time." Said Soyen, as she stood up straight and held the wooden sword firmly in her hand. "Remember to focus this time, okay?"
"I know." Mumbled Benkei, as he took a stance and pointed his sword forward. "Let's begin." The two stepped forward and the wooden blades clashed. The sound of the wood hitting rang louder then the others that were training in the room. Benkei and Soyen exchanged blows one after another.
The man sighed as he heard the noise from Benkei and Soyen. "He'll probably need a new sword soon-" He then stopped. He slowly stood up, stretched, and reached down to grab his katana. "Everyone continue your training, I'll be back!" Exclaimed the man, the people nodded to him, some grunting, and he walked out the large doors. Benkei and Soyen watched him leave, and both grinned at each other.
"I wonder what he had to do..." Said Benkei.
"He's called one of the strongest knights, he probably was summoned." Said Soyen with a slight shrug.
"But I didn't hear anyone call him." Said Benkei as he scratched his head.
"Maybe the King had a mage call him using magic." Said Soyen.
"Doubt it, but I kind of want to know..." Said Benkei. His grin grew larger. "Let's follow him, he can't be too far off."
"But what if we get caught?" Asked Soyen.
Benkei grinned and snapped his sword in two. "I can say I needed to ask him for another sword." Said Benkei.
Soyen shrugged, "alright, but your leading the way."
"Alright!" Benkei ran towards the large doors, and Soyen followed. He pushed them open, and looked outside. It was still dark, but the moonlight lit the place up nicely. Houses made from stone and wood could be seen. About a quarter of a mile away was a large woods. They saw their master go into the woods, he recognized him by two things. By how tall the figure was, since he was tall, and the shine. The unmistakable shine that comes off his katana in the moonlight. His katana was unsheathed. Benkei and Soyen were surprised. "Must be something serious..." Said Benkei.
"Well, let's keep going. This only makes me more curious." Said Soyen.
"Okay." They both walked across the land, trying to move within the shadows from towering houses. In the far distance, they could see the kingdom. The glass windows shined with the moonlight, the kingdom seemed to glow in the moonlight. They focused on the woods and pressed on.
"Oh...hehe..." The man walking in the woods stopped, and held the hilt of his knife. "Someone's coming..."
