Hey, I've heard of this "Parelli" place a few times and I wanted to know if anybody knew anything about it. biggrin
My aunt let me barrow a introduction on one of their farms and I loved the way it looked. It has to do with the relationship you and your horse has?

Well I havent done the Parelli thing yet but I did one like it...it was Frank Bell. He was pretty awsome. He came to the island I live on in Alaska and did a 3 day clinic and he stayed here for I think it was 11 days...anyway. I like his method its easy and he comes and teaches it to you himself. The cool thing about it was after just 3 days my horse was so sensitive....and they way she was trained you just cant be that sensitive (trained for little and mentally ill kids) It was awsome. He took away our bridals and halters and just gave us a peice of twine...that was pretty cool. We are going to have Parelli people come up here in a few months and do a more advanced clinic. Oh and if you want to go to Frank Bells site its http://www.horsewhisperer.com Oh but he normally doesnt teach kids...(well actually we're teenagers)we were REALLY lucky

Here is the page where he wrote about his experince on Wrangell island http://www.horsewhisperer.com/newsletter_fall_2005.html its the 6th paragraph down in the Past 4 Clinics section (just scroll down) Everything about the clinic, people, and the senery are all true. Ann is the one who provided most of the horses. I have my own, who was one of the drafty type and one of the best horses in the clinic...Frank even told me I had a wonderful horse! biggrin The boy he talked about named Barre is all true. And Barre happens to be one the my friends (but in my town, everybody is my friend)

It works really well with some horses but with the training experience that i have had it really depends on the particular horse. Usually if the horse is a major hot head it doesn't help them to much because it lets them go wild but to a really sensitive horse it can really make you connect with them in a way most never even imagine.

Raylathair -> I totaly disagree with you. Parelli and all the other 'wisperers' methods are different ways of thinking, so acting.
I've been following the Parelli method for 10 months. Working on my Level 3 right now, and I have to say I've never thought once about going back to classical riding !! It's amazing how my pony has progressed and become so sensitive. And especially it takes riding to another level. Not simply riding round in the manege or going over jumps. At my level all dressage manoeuvres or jumping or even some western I can do with nothing on my pony. Same thing in liberty, all the manoeuvres from going sideways to lead changes to backing up. Everything you can imagine can be done with nothing on the horse. Simple comunication between horse and "rider". Of course once you can do all that. You put the bridle on and everything is so light and you are in total harmony with your friend.
Back to what Raylathair said. I have a mare, who has some arabian blood and is veery highly strung. She understands the movements 'n all very quickly but yes, they are harder to "train", she get's scared 'cos of noises and other very fast and used to become completely right brained. Now she has progressed and starts thinking before going into flight. The only difference with the 'hot' horses is that they are closer to their natural instinct, wich is flight. So we have to be better trainers for them to be better students. And they are also the most sensitive once you acomplish harmony.
Sorry it was long ^^' I tend to blab alot about it ^^'''

I have to say I've never heard of Parelli altough from reading through this topic I'm guessing it has something to do with horse whispering and basically not forcing the horse to do anything. Could anyone explain it to me please?

Parelli is a step-by-step way of taking your relationship with horses to an extraordinary heights. There are ten levels but only 3 of them you can do at home with kits you can buy. It's basically a way of learning horse instead of teaching the horse to learn english. It is presented in a way that makes it very easy to learn. Pat Parelli explains it really well in his website... www.parelli.com... I suggest you read "What is PNH" and the personal stories are also very inspirational. All the information is presented to anyone interested. It has definately changed my life and my horse is way happier and he now does things willingly that I could never have gotton through conventional methods.

I've been trying Parelli with my horse, but its hard. We had a professional Parelli horse trainer come, and she tried some stuff with Raven. She said she was the first pony or horse who had reacted so... eek But thats only because my pony is crazy. I seen Parelli work wonders with some horses and ponies! This one horse was going to be put down because he was to crazy, even the state wouldn't take him, when one lady at our barn took him. We dont know how she got him on that trailer, but he broke it coming off, denting the walls. He was scary as heck, but just one year after we have found he likes to roll on his back like a dog and get belly rubs. No lye. confused
