What is the weirdest movie you have even seen?
One that made no sense.
Made you scratch your head.
Or was just plain weird.

I just finished watching a movie called The Haunting of Molly Hartley. I didn't understand the ending. The girl was supposed to become some sort of demon I guess but the movie never really clarifies it. I'm having a hard time trying to organize my thoughts to explain it.

When she was born she was supposed to die. Her parents made a pact with the devil or a witch or something like that and somehow that person spared Molly Hartley's life.

At the climax of the movie, which happened to be when Molly Hartley was turning 18 years old, she was given a knife with the choice of killing her father or killing herself. She chose to kill herself but as soon as she stabbed herself the "villain" just said "welcome" or something along the lines of that. Then the screen turned black, flashed to a scene where they were graduating from high school and nothing really seemed to change.

Sorry if this summary wasn't good enough. It was a really strange movie. I didn't understand the ending. I don't know if Molly Hartley became a devil worshiper or whatever ... It made absolutely no sense to me. sweatdrop

I know what you mean. I don't like it when they hint at an ending but don't actually make it clear what happened. It's like an author leaving off the last chapter or two. rolleyes

Has anybody here seen the movie Fantastic Planet?

The Human Centipede “the first sequence”

This film is disturbing beyond words . Its eerie and very disturbing .
Not a horror film not a gruesome movie . This movie will touch your nerves in many ugly disturbing ways . The movie is about a mad Doctor who by the way is very haunting he is the epiphany of eerie and a person who is disturbed beyond words . He creates a human centipede 3 people are kidnapped 2 American girls who are on a trip in Germany and 1 Asian guy no back story for him best that way because what happens to them is disturbing and sad beyond words . They are surgically connected a**s to mouth so that they can feed off each other , their tendons behind their knees are cut so the can only crawl and their unable to stand up . The film also tells that this is actually possible with 3 people so that its self is disturbing that its physically possible . What these 3 people go through is beyond haunting and disturbing sad and horrifying .

This movie is haunting , horrifying , this movie exists the fact that this movie exists is disturbing . Watch this movie and be psychologically disturbed .

I think that this might be touching on the fact that, according to most Christian denominations, suicide is a sin -- if you kill yourself, no matter what great things you did in life or what your reasoning was behind it, you can't get into Heaven. Since Molly's soul has a "claim" staked out by the devil, it is also unlikely that she would remain in Purgatory. This means that the devil really just gave her the option of joining them sooner or killing her dad (something it was pretty sure she wouldn't do). The ending, I think, was meant to imply that the devil that had taken her soul and was now using her form was laying low while the hoopla died down and she graduated, and was then going to go do wicked things. That was the ghist that I got when I watched it. sweatdrop

I heard that the director/writer had wanted to make the most disturbing film of all time, and felt like he had not quite accomplished that with the first 'sequence,' hence his desire to make another movie.

Oh good analysis. I didn't really think about that.

As far as good weird movies go (that didn't squick me out a la The Human Centipede), I'd have to say that I found Pan's Labyrinth to be pretty out there. The monsters, the foreign folklore. . . It was really good, but definitely weird! Likewise, Paprika was pretty weird, too: it was like watching an animated version of Inception while on acid. eek

And I always thought Amelie was kinda a weird movie, too.

Fantastic Planet was the Special Grand Prize winner of the Cannes Film Festival in 1973. It was made in France.
The human race went through an apocalypse and afterwards when they are in a primative stage some gigantic blue aliens take them away to keep them as tiny pets. The aliens are very advanced with technology and spirituality (they meditate almost constantly) but are very cruel/inhumane and uncaring when it comes to thier pets. There is also a wild population of humans that they try to exterminate with things like poison gases and stepping on them. The story follows one "pet" who learns the aliens technology and ways then escapes and joins a wild population of humans. He helps lead them to build a rocket to escape to a moon. When they get to the moon they find giant headless statues. Bubbles float down and land on top of the statues like heads. Inside each bubble is an image of one of the aliens. The statues pair up and start to dance. This is what the aliens do when they meditate and is how the aliens mate. The humans start to destroy the statues and in the end the aliens decide to make peace. The humans live happily ever after on a moon.

Sounds like a typical kinda random sci-fi (which I love). But add in wierd animation, strange customs and mannerisms of the aliens, plus bizzare music (think a cross between ambiant music that makes you feel uncomfortable and paranoid with cheesy 70s porn music and you'll be pretty close) and all that equals weird movie.
If you want to see a glimpse of what I mean here is the Fantastic Planet Trailer.

And if you aren't convinced you can watch the whole thing on youtube. Here is Fantastic Planet part 1.
Warning: This movie has nudity!
