Over simplification does not make something wrong or bad. Take the formation of the United States for example. The British ruled the colonies. A Declaration of Independence was written. The colonies fought back. George Washington led the army of the colonies and became the First President. The Bill of Rights and Constitution became the cornerstone for "our" government and the freedoms that we have. Granted, contrary to some media personalities, the freedoms that they created at the time didn't extend to everyone, but over time, they have. Sort of.

Over simplified, but still factual and still understandable. Yes, you could look for more detail, but you don't have to in order to understand the basics of what went on.
