I was a little disappointed to see that there were few threads on these games, and then to realize that they were only for the FFs I didn't like! So I figured that was a sign for me to start a discussion on FF8.
I've heard a lot of mixed reviews about this game, though I'm not sure why it gets such a rough rap. I thought it was a fairly good game and it was really enjoyable. It's one of the only Playstation-era FFs I'm willing to replay (the other is FF Tactics). I liked the gameplay, the Junction system, the fact that you could tailor the game to as hard or as easy as you wanted based on how much Junctioning or side-quest grinding you bothered to do. The cast was interesting, the politics and ideals engaging.
So, I guess the question is: why did you like or dislike it?

I love almost all final fantasy games except for 11 nevere played it , well im a fan of final fantasy 8 , its a great game characters arent as memorable as other final fantasy characters , I remember Ultimicia been so freaking awesome , specially in the intro , the intro song is AMAZING one of the best so far in my opinion , Squall was great but not memorable llike Tidus , Yuna , and ofcourse Cloud , Rinoa was such an annoying character she kept getting kidnaped , Its a great games with awesome summons , i beleive it had better summons than final fantasy 7 and 9 , final fantasy 8 is a great game just lacked great charaters .

But what made Cloud a more memorable character than Squall? Because when I talk to people, the Cloud they remember is from the beginning of FF7, which isn't Cloud at all, but him emulating Zach! Squall has some really deep insights into his role as a mercenary (his whole, "there is no good or evil, just two different sides" thing), whereas Cloud doesn't seem to care about the property damage or ruined lives that his little terrorist group leave behind because they are "good" and Shinra is "evil" (the most grounded person in the FF7 cast is the guy who spends the game living vicariously through a stuffed cat!).

Yes you have a great point i personally am not a big fan of clud for the simple fact that he is way too much of a downer at times , and not to mention he dosent care much about the after effects of his choices and at times comes off as selfish , Squall as a characters with personality is deeper than cloud , but for some reason cloud is more popular and has been , more iconic than Squall why ? not sure why , but i guess its more fan based and what not . Favorite character of final fasntasy 7 is Sephiroth ofcourse , he is and has become a super villan he shows no mercy . Favorite Character is Yuna , she gave herself to her people , she cared for more than herself , she wanted peace for her people and was willing to die for it , thats a true strong character .

Ah, that's true. Fandom is a fickle thing. I think that, for a lot of folks, they may like 7 more than 8 because 7 was their first RPG, and they have those special nostalgic feelings for it. I'm that way with certain fighting games.

Very true , Final Fantasy X was actually my first rpg and i fell in love with it , and i went back to play all the other Final Fantasy games , what fighting games do you like ?

My favorite fighting game is Darkstalkers 3; it was the very first fighting game that I ever got into it. But I'm also a big fan of the early Guilty Gear games, the Vs. Capcom series, and Soul Caliber 2. I have yet to play FF Dissidia, though I really want to: I'm sure that there are few things as satisfying as beating Cloud up with Squall over and over again. mrgreen

Im a big fan of marvel ves capcom series , I enjoy tekken and i am palyinf dissidia getting ready for dissia 2 to come out , where thay have added some of my fav. characters such as Vann and ofcourse Yuna lol , I also like Tekken and Soul Calibur , im a big time video game jukie lol , i havent played Bayonetta but i will eventually at the moment Tekken 6 and Final Fantasy 13 are taking up my game play time .

ff8 is my fav ! i'm obsessed with and have played it way too many times! my friends even yell at me for randomly talking like some of the characters sometimes(especially selphie) .i even have ff8 tattoos (yes real ones) . i don't care that it has a smaller fandom than ff7 that just means there is more of squall for me lol.

Final Fantasy 8 is by far my favorite FF
I remember when I was on the hunt for the items for Rinoa's
final weapon-
it was pretty frustrating
but when I was just fed up with it, I remember crying lol-
but that's a reason I love that game-
it's just that intense & there are so many side quests you can do which are actually fun!
I think the last FF game that had actual interesting side quests was FF10
-Purely opinionated-
I dont care for FF7- it's somewhat overrated now
FF6- I never had a chance to play it
FF9- it was okay
FF10- pretty good
FF12- I like the battle system
FF13- Disaster. Hopefully the 2nd FF13 will be more like FF8 ;D
But FF8 is by far my favorite, apart from Crystal Chronicles

I actually really like FF8 its a good game once you get into playing it, my only problem with it was the fact that it was abit quiet at times, they could of atleast put abit more music into the background during gameplay and tweaked a few things then maybe it would of been a little less on the boring side at points and abit more popular, but thats just my opinion....
