BEFORE: 15-year-old Neku Sakuraba wakes up in the middle of the streets of Shibuya Crossing with a strange pin, a name, and junk mail on his cell phone. And that’s not it, when he holds the pin he can hear voices of the people’s thoughts around him. Except they can’t hear him. The message reads: “Reach 104. You have 60 minutes. Fail, and face erasure. --The Reapers”. The mail can’t be deleted, and next he feels a sharp pain in his hand. A timer in blue letters starts ticking at 59:49, but before any thought is given to it frogs, yes frogs, start attacking him. He’s forced to make a run for it and yells for help. Nobody seems to notice him however, except one girl (Shiki Misaki) who tells him to make a pact with her. He accepts, confused, and she hands him another strange pin (Pyrokinesis), and when he holds it in his hand flames come from the ground and the frogs vanish. Shiki explains they’re in the Reapers’ Game, the power from the pins are called psychs, the weird frogs were Noise, and that they must go to 104(a before the timer runs out or they’ll be Erased. Neku agrees to go… Grudgingly. Before they make it to 104, however, Neku walks straight into an invisible barrier and gets knocked back. Off in the distance a hooded man in a red jacket with black wings says, “Pact confirmed.” The barrier is gone, and they make their way to 104. After they reach the building and the timer vanishes from their hands, they meet Uzuki, a reaper who survives by erasing players. She summons Noise that Neku and Shiki fight off. Everything goes black.
---END OF DAY ONE---
For shortness’s sake, the three weeks of plot will be outlined in bullet points. Reading a wall of text will put you to sleep.
*Neku’s entry fee for week 1 is his memories. He gets them back on week 2 but doesn’t remember how he died until week 3.
*Shiki’s entry fee for week 1 is her appearance. Her jealousy of her best friend (Eri) is the weakness that Neku helps her overcome before they fight Higashizawa. She becomes Neku’s entry fee on week 2.
*Reaper Creeper is meant to solve a person’s problems by moving a coin to white(aff), black (neg), or red (maybe)
*Beat was Rhyme’s partner (week 1), a Harrier Special Ops Reaper (week 2), and Neku’s partner (week 3)
*Rhyme turns into a Noise after halfway through week 1
*Players can only wear up to one deck (6 pins) at once
*Only Reapers and other Players can talk to each other in the UG unless a store has a special sticker on it, which they become visible in the RG to buy needed items inside
*Players are people who died recently but have been given a second chance to live again if they win at the end of the week
*Players must sacrifice what they care about most to enter the Reapers’ Game
*Joshua never died, never had an entry fee, was Neku’s partner in week 2, chose Neku as his proxy against the Conductor, and is the Composer
*Neku fights the Conductor after winning the third week with Shiki and Beat as the Composer’s proxy. Unknowingly, he is helping the Composer win a Game that will destroy Shibuya
*Joshua shoots Neku once at the beginning of the game to kill him, and again at the end of the game before he comes back to life
