After all of the wild craze of people saying this was the best movie of the year as well as it winning the Golden Globe for best picture I decided to watch The Social Network.

The Social Network is about the people and controversies that occurred during the creation of Facebook (or TheFacebook).

The acting was good, but nothing that stood out to me as an amazing performance. I thought the best actor in the movie was Justin Timberlake. He played the only character that I really found entertaining. The twins were pretty good too.

I felt that if you are not into facebook you will have trouble getting into the movie. Technically I thought the movie was awful. There were a lot of scenes where the music or sound effects drowned out the lines of what the main characters were saying. The most noticeable was the scene where Eisenberg and Timberlake are talking in a club about the future of facebook. Well I could barely hear what they were saying over the music that I had to put the subtitles on. Also the opening scene where he gets dumped by his girlfriend is really hard to hear. This goes on all through the whole movie.

I will say that the most redeeming thing about the movie was the soundtrack by Trent Reznor. (I am a NIN fan) The music was perfect, but also way too loud that it downed out important things that the audience needed to hear to understand what was going on. As my brother says this goes on with all David Fincher films.

Lastly the ending. The movie shows the figuring of who created facebook and who deserves money through lawyers and such. They show you what everyone has to say and it ends with you not finding out what the results were. I felt a little gipped as it was an actual event and has an ending that doesn't need to be left up to the viewer...

Overall I was super disappointed and I pray that it doesn't win anything other then musical score at the oscars.

5/10

I still haven't seen this movie, and I never will. I am not a big fan of Facebook, and I feel watching this film will only add fuel to the rampaging facebook machine.

For the Oscars, I have my money behind either Black Swan or the King's Speech for best motion picture. If The Social Network beats out both of them like it did during the SAG awards I will completely loose faith in the system... if I haven't already.

I have a feeling that The King's Speech is going to win though of course I would prefer Black Swan.

Aw, I absolutely loved this movie.

From watching the trailer, I was totally disinterested. I'm not on Facebook (although I don't look down on it). And I felt like they created a character that was an over-the-top, self-important jerk as a kind of gimmick.

After seeing it though, I thought the whole thing was smooth and really engaging and fun to watch/listen to. The movie's Zuckerberg might be a jerk, but I thought the story about why he's a jerk and what he's trying to do was really interesting.

The opening scene is amazing in the way that it sets up who and how these characters are, and it lights the fuse for the rest of the movie. The snappy dialogue was great too; the back-and-forth they have is just interesting enough. The ending wasn't unsatisfying to me, although I didn't necessarily feel it coming. They tell you how the lawsuit ends. You don't get to see Eduardo's or the twins' reaction, but I think that just reaffirms that it's Mark's story.

I've heard detractors of Facebook express their disdain of this movie's existence. But it's not like this is a big advertising stunt for Facebook. In fact, it paints a pretty unflattering portrait of Zuckerberg. I think the point is that someone thought the true life story was compelling and dramatic enough to make a work of fiction out of it.

Personally, I hope it wins Best Picture. But I also agree that The King's Speech is a pretty strong contender.

It wasn't anything too special for me (weird, because I love David Fincher). I did think the acting was pretty good, but I would pick Jeff Bridges over Jesse Eisenberg (though, I haven't seen The King's Speech yet, so I have no idea how good Colin Firth's performance is in it). It was just a "meh" for me. Not too amazing, not too awful. Just a "meh." I'm gunning for True Grit this time around, but if we're following any patterns, my favorite movie of the year will only get a nomination, not a win. XD

I thought it was kind of interesting (and I don't even have a Facebook). Although, I have to agree, the sound drove me crazy. I had to have subtitles up through just about the whole movie. 4/5

That being said, even if it is decent, I hope it doesn't get too many Oscars.. those other films need some love, too.
