How many holidays are celebrated in your religion?
Do you celebrate them all?
Are there other holidays from other religions you celebrate?
Do the holidays reflect core mythology?
How has the modern world had an affect on the meaning of your holidays?

I would have to say I try to celebrate them all. ^_^ I like combining such holidays like Easter/Spring Equinox, Halloween/All Hallows Eve, Christmas/Winter Solsitce. Others don't really have a calander holiday near them so they get celebrated a little quieter. Of corse I also celebrate holidays like Valentines day, St Patrics day, Thanksgiving, ect. biggrin Hell, I just love holidays. Give me an exuse to celebrate something and I go all out. xd

I have a fertility festival first of May, A festival of the dead/ancestors, Spring equinox, Winter solstice (and occasionally celebrate mother nights), Fall equinox, and Summer solstice. I also have a grain harvest in August. I also do a ritual when the first signs of spring appear.

This year is going to be interesting- because a lot of holidays are focused on the land cycles- which is neat. I have a garden I get to pay attention to for it.
Loona? Do you harvest any grain?

I thought I had explained. sweatdrop Quote: No, but it is an essential crop for humanity For me it's kind of amazing to think of how recently as a species we adopted grains into our diet. It's been so recent we still haven't developed a resistance to the mild poison that coats the outside of most unsoaked grains.

Esiris I thought I had explained. sweatdrop Well could you explain or expand on what some of those festivals are and if they have any significant meaning to you? It's been so recent we still haven't developed a resistance to the mild poison that coats the outside of most unsoaked grains. Yet you find it in almost all diets across the globe.

Loona Wynd Well could you explain or expand on what some of those festivals are and if they have any significant meaning to you? The reason I mentioned it was because the popular Sabbats haven't had much meaning to me up til now- but since I'm actually working the land, I expect that to change. Quote: Yet you find it in almost all diets across the globe. That's because in our hunting and gathering days if we found a source of quick sugar- we'd gorge. The idea of 'grain' as a foodstuff as opposed to a lucky treat is really new to our species.

I haven't worked the land much in a while myself. However I do notice the changes between the seasons on how they have an effect on both my mentality and the mentality of others as well as physical and economical/social changes. However the concept of the ideas behind grain harvests does still resonate with my life and experiences. That is why I still honor those festivals.

I notice seasonal changes- but harvest festivals haven't really meant much for me since I don't eat locally as much as I want to. sweatdrop

The local supermarket is supplied primarily with local produce that gets shipped through the region (New England). So for me it is always around me. That being said as soon as I can I am planning on having my own herb and vegetable garden. I feel I am going to get more involved with kitchen magic once I have a place where I can do so more effectivly and can but my own set of pots and pans.
I may go to some of the sacred feasts of Thelema soon. I am looking into getting involved with the local OTO. They have several events a month which are available to the public. So I am going to go to them. It will be something for me to learn and explore.

We have a lot of local foods- but they're supplemented with stuff that's imported- so we have tropical fruits and other good stuffs too. I think the thing is that because we get so much stuff from other places- like outside 100 miles of where we live, even we can get a tomato in the middle of December- most stores do that, so there's not the same sense of foods and seasons, except for maybe prices.

In that sense you are quite right. There is little refernce in the grocery store for local produce in the winter. Though maybe some have indoor grow houses to have crops year round. However even in the winter I feel the season simply by the weather.

I celebrate holidays (not as part of a religion though smile ). I tend to celebrate about 5 or 6. I celebrate seasonal changes at the equinoxes and May 1st and August 1st (I generally take inspiration for the later two from my earlier years of studying "neo-wicca"). I also celebrate Christmas with my family.
I don't think they do reflect mythology but perhaps historical celebrations that are similar.
I think the modern interpretations and norms have had an affect on them. I feel like the ability to eat whatever you like all year round has taken away from a more authentic appreciation for life and the importance of our environment in sustaining us.

So I was hoping that more answers would be about non wheel of the year witchcraft sabbats. I was interested in finding out about the calendars of other pagan religions.
