Raphael wasn't doing it for the sake of the tournament. He was coerced through other methods. He was caged at the time and threatened with being turned over to Mikael who got her wish granted from Allerial for winning the tournament. She wanted to know who killed her sister. It was Raphael, and that's why he's hiding in the dome. She wants him dead.
