A movie made in 1995 staring Kathy Bates and Jennifer Jason Leigh, based on the book by Stephen King about a woman accused of murder. I couldn't really summarize because it's hard to without spoiling much of the plot.
I have not read the book by Stephen King, so I'm not really sure how much the movie is accurate to the book. What I can say about this movie is that it was incredible. Absolutely incredible. My first and second time viewing this film I was completely hooked and stunned.
The acting in this film is incredibly well-done. Kathy Bates gives an outstanding performance as the strong and stubborn mother Dolores Claiborne, and Jennifer Jason Leigh also gives a solid performance as the daughter consumed by her father's death. Every actor in this movie gives a solid performance.
The story is just as great. It grabs you from beginning to end, and the story is brutal and sometimes feels real. I'm not going to give much of the story if you've read the book and because there is a lot of twists and turns in the film I would consider as spoilers. I will say though that the storytelling draws you in, and there will always be something happening. There are lots of flashbacks in this film.
The filmaking in this film in general is just great. It will be one of those movies that will never leave you. Highly recommended. Very underrated for some reason.
