Does it really annoy you when films or books consistently get one minor thing wrong about mythology, or just have one flaw with what they do? I'm just wondering because at the moment A Midsummer Night's Dream by Shakespeare is drving me mad - it's set in ancient Greece using Roman mythology. For example, Diana instead of Artemis, Pheobe instead of Selene, Cupid instead of Eros and Venus instead of Aphrodite. There are others as well, but I really do not want to bore you by writing them out.
A lot of places seem to do this actually - famously, the Disney movie Hercules used Greek gods but the Roman name for Heracles.
So yeah, rant over. Discuss if you want.

In one Nightwish song they use the weirder names for Egyptian gods, whether or not they are different adaptations or not I still kind of bugs me. In the song Pharaoh sails to Orion they use for Isis= Sepdet, then for Set= Seteh then for Horus they don't change his name, their reasoning is obvious, it just sounds better. And they also combine Greek and Egyptian beliefs in one song, its very cool.

I think that it's Artemis the maiden on earth, Selene the mother in the sky and either Persephone the maiden or Hecate the wise one underground.

back to your thing about midsummers night dream, they just sounded more romantic to him i guess. And they never say wether or not rome had captured greece then, because if they had the names may have been changed.

In ancient cultures sometimes their mythologies mixed though. Like if you look at some of the ancient sculptures in Greece and Egypt you can see depictions of Greek Gods/Goddesses in their artwork or sculptures and vice versa.
So throwing in Gods/Goddesses from other cultures doesn't bother me all too much because of that but if the story is inconsistant with what happens in myths to the person they're describing then I get annoyed. Inconsistancy annoys me more than anything.

Yea, and sometimes you get almost complete deity integration. Like Poseidon and his sons, Triton and Proteus, most likely were gleaned from Turkish/Trojan-area pantheons.
And Set got himself twin fertility goddesses (Astarte and Anat) as concubines from Sidonia and/or Syria-area's mythology. Score! xd

Demeter The cartoon show Hercules by disney. Artemis has a southerner accent. It just bothers me alot for some reason. I just love how people can manage to know the entire story without reading them in the original languages. A ton of inormation is either missing or translated wrong. -_- Pisses me off!

oh damn, well, I currently have a Love/Hate relationship with the Show "Class of the titans" i love how they do it, and try to get alot of the myth right, But... Medusa can only hurt Men, she's not all powerful, and she's dead, headless and dead, but they have her there anyways, and the woman are all freaking out casue they lost their blindfolds. (which again, doesn't make sense cause Medusa can onl harm men) and then they go to hades, and go to the judgement... and only Minos (he's the one that goes away right? Minos or Midas, can't remember) is there. But there's three Judges.... sweatdrop
