Do you meditate as a part of your religious practices? What does this practice mean for you? What benefits does it bring, spiritually?

I do, but I'm very new to meditation and haven't really been able to figure out what it means for me yet. I don't notice much of a benefit yet, but I figure that will change as I do it more and try other forms. It will probably also help to see what others say, so I hope people with more experience respond here.

I try to meditate either before I officially start my day, or before I got to bed. Though lately I haven't been getting up early enough and I've been sort of just crashing before I get the chance (Oh the joys of summer XD). I kind of see it as helping connect me spiritually with Gods and just life in general. Usually I just sort of hum while I meditate, but lately (when I do get around to it) I've been inserting the first four lines of the Jedi mantra in there (emotion yet peace, ignorance yet knowledge, passion yet serenity, chaos yet harmony). Star Wars and the Jedi may be fictional but there is some serious wisdom in the paradox of that mantra. I think there's a sort of yin-yang kind of balance there I'm still trying to grasp in life, so sometimes when I meditate I murmur it to myself. For me meditation is a way to balance things out spiritually as well.
