Blayze was out strolling around town. It was a nice sunny day, making the end of winter day warm. She paused at a corner and inhaled deeply. The sweet scent of sticky rolls filled her nose. Ah this was a wonderful day indeed. She loved the smell of sticky rolls even though she didn't like to eat them.
Looking both ways she crossed the street. There were dogs out all over some of them with their humans and some, like her, without them. Of course there were those that didn't have a human at all. Which was a shame in her book. Humans could be quite nice and were great helpers. After all they could open the doors that dogs could not. Shaking her head she tried to get rid of all of these deep thoughts. She was out here to meet new dogs and to make friends, not find a new philosophy.

Kaiden looked around the edge of town, his dark brown eyes serious and out of place with the rest of him. His steps were awkward, his form small, and for all the world looked as a pup should be, save for the grim set of his jaw, the confident rise of his tail, and those determined, somber eyes. To another, he might have appeared cute, or even an actor, but it was far from play to him and he set out purposefully along the edge of town, apparently undaunted by the size of Summerwood in comparison to his own.
He padded over to the closest recognizable landmark he could find, sniffed it, circled its width, and paid close attention to it before moving on. He did this to every item he deemed important, on the lookout for anything he deemed harmful. He had recently been taken in, you see, by a man who made his living training police dogs. Kaiden had never been intended to be one of those dogs, for those of his breed were known for their independence, and although it wasn't a bad quality, it made it hard for Kaiden to be completely dependent on the orders he received, to listen to them all the time, and to never disobey. But Kaiden had taken things into his own paws, and now he was out on duty, as he would have liked to say, ensuring the citizens of the town remained safe. Who said he couldn't be a police dog? So what if he couldn't be as obedient as K9 officers should be? He trusted his own instincts, and even if he wouldn't be known for being the most obliging, he would make a name for himself as the first K9 to not need a human handler to do his job.
He huffed, growing more resolute at the thought. He would do his job, and do it well, even if, technically, it really wasn't. Or at least, that was what he had told himself before a kind-hearted stranger stumbled by, thought him lost, and bent to retrieve him. He couldn't be taken away; not now, at least. Squeezing through a narrow hole that only one of his size could fit in through, he ran as fast as his short, still-growing legs would allow, re-emerging on the other side of the street filthy but free.
He then proceeded to crash head-first into another puppy.

Blayze's ears twitched as she heard a noise on the other side of the street. She didn't turn to see what it was though. She quickly found out when she was plowed into by another puppy. She fell to the ground and growled lightly. Her head snapped towards the other puppy and she slowly stood back up. "Geez. Where's the fire?" She huffed to herself before addressing the male puppy, "Would you watch where you're going? That hurt when you knocked me down. You don't want to do that to someone else now, do ya?" She stood her ground, paws spread apart, ready to block this dirty pup if he tried to run away from her scolding.

((Hmm... is his font too light to you? XD;))
Kaiden stumbled back, shaking his head as he did so to clear his eyes. As soon as he did, the first thing he did was look over his shoulder to make sure whoever the human had been hadn't followed him, and it was only then did he face the pup he had crashed into. It was not out of any particular rudeness, but more of priority; if the human had come, he would have to run as fast as he could, pup or not, and even if trouble arose, he knew he could take on another about his size instead of a man who could carry him with just one paw.
His action seemed to have been taken the wrong way, however, and he flattened his ears, half guilt, half irritation being the source of the action. He was tempted to remark upon her appearance in response to her first question, but he held it in and instead muttered a muffled, "Sorry."

Blayze huffed at his muffled apology. "If you're going to say sorry, say it like you mean it. Not all soft where you can barely hear it." Seeing him not too ready to bolt made her relax her stance, "Jeez look at ya. So dirty. What were ya doing? Rolling in a dust pile?" Her head cocked a bit as she regarded him a bit more. Finally she nodded her head. "Okay. Why don't we go somewhere where we can get you cleaned up. Can't have you going around like you just escaped a falling building." She looked around getting her bearings, "This way. We can head towards the river that goes near town."
((No it's fine))

Kaiden only muttered a much more quiet, much more annoyed apology at the female's words, unsurprisingly childish when being reprimanded. Thankfully, however, she didn't seem the type to feel highly insulted for such a thing, and it was enough to have him puff up and continue, holding his head high as he told her that the reason for his fur's state was because he had to chase away some criminals, and that wasn't easy work, no sirree. It was unbelievable, of course, but to him, totally legitimate, and not a complete lie. Why, he had practically been stolen, and that in itself was a crime!
He pretended he felt insulted at her comment (it was dangerous work he had been doing, after all, and one's hygiene wasn't exactly a priority when dealing with bad folks) but obligingly followed, feeling more at ease since the pup had offered to help him.
"What's your name, anyway?" he asked suddenly, failing to grow a set of manners despite the comfort he now felt around her.

Blayze made sure he couldn't see her face as she rolled her eyes at his story. Some pups.... they just couldn't tell the truth, could they. When he asked for her name she looked back at him and grinned. "The name's Blayze. Spelled with a y before the z." She paused, "And what's your name?"
She kept walking, leading the way to the river. They'd have to find a shallow area otherwise they'd be liable to be swept away. Soon they were going down a grassy hill which led to the riverbank. "Hm... I think this area is too deep... I think the spot we want is further down."

Kaiden nodded, taking note of the name and, of course, it's correct spelling. It could be important someday, especially if they didn't want any mix-ups when it came down to the last letter! But... waitwaitwait, how did one spell "blaze," anyhow? And a "y" before the "z"? He hadn't even been aware there was a "z" involved in the first place!
He began to twitch his ears nervously at the predicament he now faced, but he couldn't let the female find out. Clearing his throat, he managed to casually (and pridefully, as he knew his name was of the uncommon variety) respond, "Kaiden." He almost added in a "spelled with a 'i' instead of 'y'," too, just to match Blayze, but was quickly distracted by the change in scenery.
His paws no longer pressed against cement, but brushed against wind-tussled grass on a sloping, downward hill. At first, he admired it, but a look of surprise soon flashed on his face and he yelled "Wait!"
Rushing up to Blayze, he pressed his nose down and began sniffing wildly, his tail lashing with excitement. "There aren't any humans here. It could be dangerous." he explained between sniffs.

Blazye was starting to walk down the river towards the shallow spot. She paused when Kaiden said his name. "Kayden? As in K-A-Y-D-E-N?" She wasn't afraid to ask how to spell ones name if she didn't know already.
She began walking again but froze in place when he yelled wait. "What is..." She started to ask before he went on and began sniffing around, "Uh... I don't think it's really that dangerous here besides falling into the river. I mean there are no other dogs around us." She even looked around to prove her point of how there were no dogs in the area.

Kaiden shook his head grimly in response. "You never know, Blayze. A hawk can come out of nowhere! And I hear gang activity has been rising lately -- it's best to make sure. Oh, and it's spelled with an 'i' instead of a 'y'."
Kaiden was feeling pretty good about now. Police dogs were always warning civilians about the unknown dangers they, as protectors of the town, were always aware of, and he had just now done the same. He tried to hide the smug smile he felt growing on his lips at the thought, but was having trouble with it. But not for long.
With his nose and eyes still focused on the ground, he took one off step forward and tripped, rolling towards the river and landing with a less-than-graceful splash in the shallows.

"Hawks are not going to swoop down from the sky and attack.... and I'm sure any gangs aren't going to mess with a couple of pups. Don't they have bigger fish to fry?" Blayze said, "Oh... Kaiden..." She turned to look at him after hearing the splash. She shook her head and quickly walked over to him. She even walked into the water and grabbed him by the scruff to help him up. Didn't want him drowning. After all she was aiming to be a search and rescue dog... and letting him drown would not do.
"Well I suppose you just found the shallow spot and are getting cleaned. Not sure if you went about it in the best way but..." She shrugged to show that it didn't really matter.

After Blayze's rescue, Kaiden twisted around to his feet and shook the water from his fur, ears flopping about as he did so. He sat casually afterwards, most of his hindquarters submerged and no doubt uncomfortable as he sat on the water-polished stones and drew in a breath, attempting to look as if everything he had done, he had done on purpose.
"Yes," he said, nodding to Blayze's latest words. "I came here just like I wanted."
The response may have seemed more dignified had he not immediately sneezed afterwards.

Blayze stepped away from Kaiden and shook her head. "Sure sure. If you say so..." She replied looking at him intently, "Well now that you're all clean why don't you get out of the water before that sneeze turns into a cold." She turned around and climbed out of the water and onto the grass. While her back was turned she rolled her eyes. Some pups I'll tell ya.... She thought to herself. She then turned to look back at him. "Are ya coming?"

Glad his excuse had been accepted (or so he believed), Kaiden gratefully picked himself up. He wouldn't be sitting in rivers again anytime soon before his coat grew a bit more.
Giving himself another shake to dry his soaking hindquarters, he made a step towards the dark red dog with all intentions to follow when he suddenly paused and smiled deviously. With little warning on his part, Kaiden suddenly splashed some water towards the other pup's direction, luckily just as soon as she had turned her head towards him.
Without waiting for a rebuttal, he quickly shambled out of the river and began to attempt his escape.

Blayze was not happy to turn and get a face full of water. She got a very displease look on her face which was dripping wet. She quickly shook herself and turned since he was running away. "Get back here!!!!" She hollered. She then began running after him not willing to let him get away with what he did.
