1450-Day 1 Rachel, NV
Walking Awake Limitless Knowledgable Erotic Revived Supernaturals
Joy looked out the window as the rain pitter-pattered down with a monotonous beat. It wasn't long since she had been under the arms of MTAC, a worldwide organization promising to keep them [the people of the world] safe from the Walkers. It didn't take that long to resurrect MTAC. It was inevitable to say the least, since they were the one who caused the virus to spread around the globe, infecting everyone and everything it touched. Them and their careless researchers. Them and their cursed curiosity to enrich their knowledge of science. And them and their stupid accident that created the dreadful creatures to walk the earth.
The announcer buzzed once more, asking for all newcomers to line up and check in. Joy stood up, grabbed her duffel bag, and went on her way towards the check-in station.
"Passport and I.D. please." the man asked behind the counter.
Joy fumbled through her bag and reached for the leather-bounded objects.
"Here."
The man took her passport and identification and ran them through his computer. The computer buzzed and returned information. It wasn't different from any other refugee's information. Sixteen, female, blood type O, desperately running for their life from the creatures. The man stamped her passport and handed it back to her.
"Guardians?" he asked.
"My father works here." Joy replied quickly. "Code: Charlie Hotel Uniform November Golf."
"Phonetic." the man smiled. "Alright, he did mention about you. Come on in."
Joy grabbed her things and was buzzed through the heavily barbed and guarded door. A wind caught her as she strolled into the base camp. It was bare like the last one, nothing much to see but plain desert and army stuff. She located her father's cabin and knocked on the door faintly. She could feel her pulse increasing as the knob turned. The door squeaked and opened, and Joy found herself facing a gigantic and husky man.
"Joy!" he squealed.

1800-Day 1 Rachel, NV
Rank: General Liutenant General Colonel Major Captain First Lit. Second Lit.
General Chung walked her daughter, Joy, towards the campfire where his peers and friends were. At first Joy resented the idea, but her father insisted her onto meeting his team. As he approached the campfire, the military officers rose and saluted to him by rank. Joy noticed that her father's team was made up of teenagers around her age as well. As the virus increased, more and more people were recruited to help defend the more lucked out ones.
They went down the line repeating their rank, name, age, and birthplace to her in a serious tone.
"Pleasure to meet you, Joy. I am Lit. General Austin, 18, Los Angeles."
"Colonel Julie, 15, Boston."
"Major Bertha (Buggy), 20, Miami."
"Captain Skyler, 19, Jefferson City."
"First Lit. Chase Matthews, 21, Kansas City."
"Second Lit. Emma (Ecstasy), 20, Seattle."
When they finished, General Chung grabbed a few bottles full beer and tossed them around the campfire. Joy looked at her father confused, as most of his team was underage.
Austin chuckled, as he figured out her puzzled look. "Yeah, we're not typically legal, but when your world is full of chaos, there really ain't much rules to hold you back anymore."
"s**t!" Emma yelled, as she spilled the brown fizzy drink on her coat. "These stains are so hard to wash out."
Joy felt numb as the officers laughed and spreaded rumors around the campfire. These officers, so delighted and light-headed, would die on the field any day. Yet they were so free, so unlike her classmates in the last base camp. She couldn't enroll in the army until her father fell, as he signed an agreement to protect her. So instead, she worked and studied as her peers died fighting to protect people like her. She shook and felt depressed at the thought.
"I... I'm going to go wash up." Joy whispered to her father, and then ran to the restroom.
Inside she felt sick to her stomach and twisted the knob, allowing the water drops to flow freely. She splashed the cool liquid onto her face, dried it off with a towel, and stared into the mirror. Behind her leaning against a wall dressed in a clean student uniform was another girl.
"Hey." She nodded.
"Hey yourself." Joy remarked.
The girl stood tall and waltzed over towards Joy. "You attending the high school?"
"Yeah."
"Problems in the last?"
"You can say so."
"Huh."
The girl took about a toothpick and gnawed on it. "I'm Kristina Concreter, by the way."
Joy turned around and eyed her. "Joy Chung."

0600-Day 2 Rachel, NV
Joy awoke to the sounds of gunfire from a nearby experimental lab. She got up from her bed and walked over to the restroom next door. As she walked in, she found First Lit. Chase Matthews and Kristina arguing.
"Why the hell won't you let me just drink just one bottle of booze?" Kristina yelled.
"I'm supposed to be protecting you! Our father would never allow it, so I can't let you." Chase retorted.
"Oh, so you and your friends can, while I'm supposed to drink from the shitty tap? Just...ugh! Leave me alone!"
Kristina flung her golden blonde hair and marched out of the restroom. She looked at Joy and then ran off. Joy walked into the restroom and faced the sink, her back towards a stressed Chase.
"Morning."
"Morning."
Without another word, Chase walked out, leaving Joy in nothing but peace and quiet. Joy quickly brushed and washed, then dashed back to her room to grab her schoolbooks and headed to her first day of class.
As she walked into the schoolhouse, she observed the room. Roughly around twenty desks with ten of them filled, a giant plasma screen, twin lights, and a stack of books at the corner. Joy quickly filled in a seat next to Kristina, who was busily listening to her iPod.
"Class." the teacher announced. "I am Mister Andrews, your base camp teacher for now. I can see some reoccurring and new faces, which both are fine. Now we'll begin with introductions..."
The school day quickly went by, and when Joy walked out it was only close to noon. Kristina nudged her shoulder.
"You ever seen one?" Kristina asked.
"Seen one what?" Joy replied.
"Walker."
"Oh... only on my plasma. Have you?"
Kristina nodded. "Limitless and Knowledgable my foot. Them walkers can't do s**t but lurk around inhabited towns and cities with nothing to do. Don't let MTAC scare you, it's no big deal."
Joy shrugged it off and kept walking. "I just want the world to be like it was before. They promised a cure. A remedy. Or so I've heard."
"Don't trust MTAC morons. All they can do is mess up s**t, and then suck up to the government to increase funds to mess up more s**t."
"Yeah... but what other choice do we have? MTAC or not, someone out there has to know a cure!"
Kristina stopped in her tracks and smiled. "I got the thing to cheer you up. Come with me."
She dragged Joy across the camp until they reached a giant stone building.
"What's this?" Joy asked curiously as she noticed a sign labeled Behavioral Observation.
"Just follow and watch." Kristina beckoned.
They went past dozens of barbed fences and into an shielded room, towering above what seemed to be an isolated area surrounded by looming walls.
Joy gasped as she saw what was almost directly underneath her. There sat, walked, lied, and drooled tens and hundreds of walkers, all doing nothing. Their skin colorless, their clothes ripped and dangled, their senses malfunctioning. And in white lab coats were researchers, collecting data of their every move, oblivious to their surroundings acting hard at work.
"Oh god." Joy covered her eyes. "I... don't want to see this anymore."
She ran out with Kristina tailing her.
"Okay, there is obviously something wrong with you and the walkers. Why the hell can't you face them?"
Joy looked up at Kristina, dried tears dotted all over her face.

1530-Day 2 Rachel, NV
Colonel Julie was busily washing her clothes in the artificial reservoir when she heard a rustle in the bushes nearby. Alarmed, she quickly grabbed her pistol and pointed it at the direction she heard the noise from.
"Come out now!" Julie demanded. "State your name and show your identification!"
The bushes rustled some more and Lit. General Austin walked out with his hands in the air.
"Oh no, you caught me!" he joked.
Julie lowered her weapon. "Dammit Austin! Don't freak me out like that."
"I'm just checking up with you. What's your problem?"
"My problem obviously the walkers. They don't talk, they don't growl, they become sneaky and soon before you know it they draw your blood."
Austin rolled his eyes and sat next to Julie and passed her a bottle.
"We depart tomorrow." Austin announced, grabbing a pile of clothes from the top of the stack.
"Finally. MTAC issued?"
Austin nodded. "Seems to be human survivors with a working static radio. Frequency was pretty cracked up, but we pulled out bits and pieces out. Seems to be trouble and they need medical attention as well."
"Location?"
"Traced from Carson City."
"Can't they dispatch the team from Vegas?"
"Nope, already busy on a mission in their own city."
Austin stood up and threw the clothes into Julie's hamper. He then beckoned her for supper and walked back to the base camp. Julie took last gaze at the sun setting across the reservoir and walked back to camp behind Austin.
When the two arrived in camp, a Code Red alarm blared out loudly and people were scrambling in one direction. An announcer from MTAC repeatedly yelled for everyone to calm down and preform Code Red principles.
"What the..." Austin growled as he pulled someone out of the crowd. "What is going on?"
The man shuddered and started to panic. "The... Behavioral Building! Uh... oh god... some walkers were let loose. I gotta go!"
Austin looked at Julie, nodded, and they both ran towards the building. Near the entrance with the barbed wire was Captain Skyler.
"Skyler! Report!" Julie shouted.
Skyler turned around and yelled. "Ma'am! The walkers have not gone past the fence, General Chung and Major Buggy went inside not a few minutes ago, First Lit Chase Matthews and Second Lit Emma currently evacuating the people!"
"Damn it!" Austin yelled. "If the Walkers are let loose, who knows what will happen to the MTAC researchers!"
Julie grabbed out her pistol and stealthy walked into the building, with Austin closely behind.
"Where's your weapon?" Julie whispered.
"Here. Found it." Austin commented back, pulling out his silencer. "Ugh.. I didn't plan on a situation like this!"
"Damn it!" Julie retorted. "At all times, Lit. General!"
"Yeah, I got it."
Julie and Austin made their way through the darkened hallways, pointing their weapons at every corner and room.
"Clear."
"Clear."
They made their way down to the main observation deck, the door closed shut. Julie leaned towards the left and nodded at Austin, who kicked the door open. Julie rushed out to find the Walkers compiled and dead at one side, the researchers with General Chung at the other side.
"Colonel! Lit. General! Where the hell were you guys?" General Chung shouted.
Julie sighed in relief. "Apologies, General. We didn't notice the situation near the reservoir front."
Austin looked around. "General, where is Major Buggy?"
The General looked around, confused. "She was here a minute ago."
They soon heard a shriek. Chung looked at Austin and Julie and motioned them to follow him. Around the corner, they found a walker on top of Buggy, his eyes coldly staring at her bleeding severly.
"You damn b*****d!!!" Julie cried out, placing five rounds into the Walker. The Walker fell next to Buggy as Julie ran towards them with tears forming. She kneeled down and grabbed Buggy.
"Ugh.." Buggy groaned. "He..bit me."
"Oh god. Oh god no." Julie cried out. "Chung!"
Austin quickly dialed for medical help, and Chung ran and kneeled beside Buggy.
"Buggy. You hear me? Hang in there!" Chung called out.
Julie took off her coat and wrapped it around Buggy's chest, where she was bleeding from.
Buggy's breathing began to slow down. "Da...Damn it.."
"Oh god please don't do this to me Buggy. No.. no.."
Buggy smiled at Julie and her breathing stopped, her pulse quickly fading away. Julie sat there hugging onto Buggy, and Chung reached out to close Buggy's eyes.
Julie stood up, reached for her pistol, and began to randomly shoot at the dead Walker.
"You ******** b*****d!!!" She yelled. Chung got up and held her arm.
"Stop."
Julie wiped her tears and stuffed her face into Chung's bloodstained clothes.

0100-Day 3 Rachel, NV
Ba-dump. Ba-dump. Ba-dump.
The artificial heart pumped non-sequentially as the researchers began to commence in what they did best. They strapped Buggy onto a stretcher and preformed unspeakable projects that none the military officials had ever seen.
Colonel Julie stared painfully through the glass tinted doors at their every move from the hallway, her hands holding onto Buggy's badge, her head flowing with nonstop rhythmic vibrations. It had been hours since the unfortunate event, and Julie could not rest at ease. Buggy, one of her best friends, now lying on the brink of death. She felt helpless, restless, numb with nothing else in mind. Lit. General Austin walked up to her and placed his hand around her shoulder.
"Hey." he tried to comfort her. "It's getting late. You should get back to the camp."
Julie nodded. "Buggy... is gone, right? Even if they....if they.. so revive her.. she'd be a.."
"Walker." General Chung interrupted, striding down the hall with an emotionless face. "I just lost a veteran to my team. I know exactly how you feel, Colonel. But do not let your emotions get in the way of your duty, for if we don't accomplish the task, there will be more less fortunate in the morgues."
Colonel Julie and Lit. General Austin both saluted one last time to Buggy, and retreated back to base camp leaving General Chung to stand there alone.
"Dear me." an old, crackled voice broke out at his back. General Chung turned back to see a fairly tall yet older gentleman dressed in a black suit staring at Major Buggy.
"Director Wilson of MTAC." Chung spoke. "What are you doing here?"
Director Wilson kept his stare into the hospital room. "Frankly, to send my regards for our fallen one and to check up on the situation. Apparently, there happened to be a small breach in security causing the unexpected Code Red."
General Chung nodded and grabbed a bottle of brandy and two small shot glasses. "Why are you really here, director?"
General Wilson took a seat and a shot glass and motioned for General Chung to sit by him.
"Always quick to the facts, eh?" Wilson chuckled, pouring himself some brandy. He then pulled out a few files from his overcoat and threw them on a chair.
"You'll need a replacement." Wilson motioned, tasting the liquid with a calm satisfaction.
General Chung held a straightforward glance, his face emotionless and his body numb.
"Some of these are great majors." Wilson continued.
"I'm sure they are."
"I pulled out a few resumes of top-leading commanding officers."
Chung kept silent and stared at Wilson, who sighed and took another sip. His face suddenly turned darker and he began to rage.
"Dammit Chung! We can't go through this every time you lose a member! No matter personal, emotional, nor just a friend, we cannot just let the jobs and military titles slip by!"
Chung spoke up. "They are not slipping by. My men and women are still doings their active duty, well or not, alive or not, WALKER OR NOT!" The last few words rang down the hall, for even the tiniest of dust mites could have heard it.
Wilson eyed him considerably. "You never could let go, could you? Even if they left your side you'd still have imaginary clones of them running around your head!"
Chung winced. "I live day per day to serve and protect my team and family. Even if they have departed from our world, they are still apart of the team. There will be no replacements, no exceptions."
The two of them stared at each other in the hallway as the lights flickered on and off. At the end Wilson sighed and stood up.
"I'm giving you a choice to choose. Pick wisely."
And with that, General Chung was alone there again for the second time, half-bottle of brandy shaking in his hand.

0600-Day 3 Rachel, NV
Joy and Kristina dressed themselves in the darkest shade of grey they could find under the conditions and attended Buggy's memorial. Joy took a nitrogen-dipped rose and laid it in the pool of flowers in front of a wreath with Buggy's face in the center. Kristina followed closely behind with her eyes shaded from the sun and tossed another rose into the pool.
Director Wilson commanded his troops to stand and salute. With their hands slightly titled above their heads, they thrusted it down quickly and shouted a few words.
After the salute, Director Wilson stepped forwards. "Major Bertha, we salute to you and your committed work. Rest In Peace."
After the funeral was over, Joy and Kristina walked over to General Chung. Joy hugged her father tightly and deeply. Her face was emotionless, but she felt a slight tug in her stomach. She began to feel threatened by the Walkers, terrified to the skin.
"Don't go." Joy pleaded, her voice buried deep into her father's uniform.
"Joy." Her father spoke with concern. "I know you're afraid, but there is still work to accomplish. We still have to find the refugees in Carson City. Major Buggy would want us to."
Joy tore herself away from him and wiped the newly-formed tears from her brows. "I want to come."
"Joy!" Kristina gasped. "Are you freaking crazy?"
General Chung shook her head in disproval. "Why would you even think about coming?"
Joy looked back at Buggy's memorial. "I.. I just don't want what happened to Buggy to happen anymore."
"I can't... no. I won't allow it." "But dad.." "No is no!" "Right."
Joy and Kristina walked back to the camp.
"Joy..." Kristina began.
"I don't want to hear it." Joy retorted.
She felt helpless. She didn't want to be a little obedient girl anymore. She had to make things right. No more standing among the shadows, no more following the rules.
Kristina smiled. "Joy. I was gonna ask if you wanted to go to Carson City."
Joy turned around in confusion. "What?"
"If you really want to go, no one's gonna hold you back." "But my father.."
Kristina laughed. "I've got a plan that worked before when I wanted to break away from the camp before. However, I'm coming with you so you don't screw it up. Listen up..."
Kristina and Joy discussed the plan for a few hours, and then went to sleep. Joy smiled as she waited for her clock to strike 0300 so she could explore once more. And with that, she drifted off into a heavenly sleep where the world was once what it was before.

0200-Day 4 Carson City, NV
"Kristina! Wake up!" Joy whispered, nudging the worn out teenager.
Kristina plopped up and rubbed her eyes. They had a long, tiredless night. As soon as the aircraft was about to take off, Joy and Kristina ducked into the aircraft carrier, along with the weapons and supplies.
"Shh!" Kristina whispered back. "Duck!"
They heard a creak and a door opening. Men and women rushed in to retrieve their weapons and rushed into gear. In an instant most of the carrier was emptied out.
"Now's our chance."
Kristina lead Joy, ducking between boxes and out the door. The sun blinded their eyes for a second, but when the glare passed Joy was exhilarated. Carson City was full of plants and urban housing, unlike the camp in Rachel. Trees lined every street, streams curved around weeds, and the houses stood tall though nothing occupied it. Though it wasn't perfect without the residents, it was a sure thrilling change for Joy.
"Through here!" Kristina called, pointing at an apartment complex. She lead Joy through the cracks in the window and winding the way through the stairs.
"Where are we going?" Joy questioned.
Kristina laughed. "This isn't my first time here, silly. I have a base camp of my own."
Slipping through a wall, Kristina and Joy found themselves a door labeled C3. Kristina kneeled down and shifted through a crack in a wall and pulled out a key with the same labeling engraved in it's body. Kristina unlocked the door and pulled Joy inside.
Joy observed the apartment room. It was clean, dusty, and modernized.
Kristina opened the fridge. "You thirsty? I've got Coke, water, and expired milk."
Joy mentioned for water, which Kristina served quickly.
"Wow." Joy said, plopping herself in the sofa. "You sneak here all the time?"
Kristina sat in a chair opposite to Joy. "Yup."
"Not afraid?"
"Of what. The walkers or getting caught?"
"A bit of both."
Kristina sighed. "A change in scenery is worth all the risk. However, I was almost caught by my bitchy brother. Caught me in the carrier, though I said I was only retrieving something. Was hard to run pass him."
Joy nodded and peeked through the blinds. The streets were notoriously empty, for walkers were only active at night.
"What..are we supposed to do?" Joy asked nervously.
Kristina took a pillow and shoved it into the sofa. "Well, what do you want to do?"
Joy didn't know. She only wanted to come be with her father, which seemed impossible at the moment. Her father and his crew were probably off rescuing people, as usual.
Kristina observed her confusion and smiled. "Let's go downtown, I bet you'll find it more thrilling than this rundown apartment."

0700-Day 4 Carson City, NV
A few hours into sunrise Joy and Kristina found themselves frolicking in a quiet Forever 21 Store.
Kristina picked up a small pink top and brushed the shards of glass off it. "This is cute."
Joy looked over anxiously. "Are you sure we're able to loot?"
Kristina laughed. "Chill out, b***h. The store owners are probably walkers by now. We basically have this town to ourselves, beside the general and sleeping walkers."
Joy looked back at the rack ran her fingers against the cloth. She imagined a long time ago when girls shopped in the very same store without worries about being bitten by half-dead creatures.
"Oh yeah!" Kristina exclaimed. She pulled out a small bottle and tossed it to Joy. "Spray this on you. It's supposed to be some prototype that allows you to smell like a walker. Don't ask how I got it."
Joy eyed the bottle suspiciously before spraying a bit on herself. "Oh.. crap! This is gross."
The two of them laughed together before heading out of the store. It was bright now, the sun shining down the forsaken town.
"Come on!" Kristina mentioned. "I'm hungry, and I know just the place to get a free breakfast."
The two of them ran into another building, one shaped like a 70s diner. Kristina ran back and pulled out cans hidden in a shaft. She fried up tiny wieners and molded dough into bread. Joy ran in and helped bake them. She smiled, for she was happily engaged in the town.
"I wish we can stay here forever." Joy sighed.
Kristina nodded and looked out the window. Her expression changed as soon as she spotted something fly away into the sky.
"Joy, we may have just granted your wish."
