It's been bugging me for a while. I very well know that the medication I take to somewhat suppress my symptoms would have the effect of speed on a person without ADHD. Though my friends joke, "Did you take your speed today?" and really don't mean anything by it, I noticed that the side effects it has on me is nearly identical to that of speed (a loss of appetite, more ability to focus, less hyperactive).
Have you ever felt that the medicine you're taking is a double-edged sword? On one side, it helps you, on another, it could be causing a new problem.

Thankfully, no side effects that resemble drug use - That has to suck!

Thankfully I haven't been given any drugs that could be abused. (Nobody would take anti-psychotics if they were looking for a good time!) But, I have heard that some people with my disorder are starting to be treated with Adderal, Provigil(Modafin) and Dexadrine.
This worries me because folks with my diagnosis are often drawn to self-medicating through illegal drug use. If not carefully monitored, I think such a maintainance medication could be more trouble than help.
