Aoki

User Image

Age: 19
Dragon: Lyedarith
Position: Rider in Threadbane Wing

Looks: As she was growing up, Aoki was often told she was pretty. Mostly she ignored such compliments. She had always been short and slender, as she comes upon her eighteenth turn she only stands five feet three inches on a good day. It seemed that she was the perfect split between her parents. She had inherited her mother's olive skin and high wide cheekbones, a trait she was quite fond of. From her father came her dark, reddish-brown hair and deep green eyes with blue-green highlights. When Aoki's angry, her eyes almost appear to glow with some inner fire. Her eyebrows grew in an uneven arch that appeared to say the eyes beneath didn't quite believe what they saw. For as long as she could remember she'd always worn her hair long, about mid-back. It wouldn't be unusual to see it pulled back in a braid or at least secured in a ribbon of some sort. She wasn't one to go for expensive, fashionable clothes. She was happier in a well worn skirt and tunic than the fanciest gather dress, but she doesn't mind getting fancied up every once and a while.

In the few turns since her impression of Lyedarith, Aoki has begun to age. It isn't noticable in her looks, but her eyes reflect a maturity that she hadn't had before.

Personality: Aoki is a friendly person by nature. She enjoys randomly walking up to someone and starting a conversation. She very rarely just accepts things. If there's something that she doesn't agree with, she'll make sure to question everyone and everything until she's satisfied. Aoki's not a troublemaker by nature, but somehow trouble always seems to find her. She's a little headstrong and crazy and does things without thinking them through completely sometimes.

Recently, Aoki realized that she was growing out of her youthful curiousity and "troublemaking" ways. She finds herself happier sitting alone these days.

History: Aoki was born in Ruatha and spent the first ten years of her life there. She had both a mother and father and a older brother Jaesen. At the age of ten Aoki and her family decided to move to Benden so Jaesen might have a better chance of being searched by a dragonrider. Shortly before their move, Aoki's mother got sick. Aoki and her father moved on to Benden to get their new home ready while Jaesen and her mother stayed behind. Aoki's mother never got better and Jaesen got sick as well. They both died.

Aoki spent the rest of her young years and teenage years taking care of her father until his death a few weeks before becoming a candidate. She was taken to Fort a few days before the hatching where she Impressed Lyedarith.

Since that Impression, Aoki's done her best to shake things up at Fort. She tries to keep everyone on their toes and does the unexpected. As a weyrling she often tried to push her luck. Her worst act had been flying with Lyedarith before she was allowed and without straps.

More recently, Aoki realized that she had lost touch with some of her first friends at Fort. Since becoming full riders, she realized, it seems like they've all gone their separate ways. Aoki spends much of her time out on search looking for new candidates. She's also picked up a new flit, Kael, who she adores.

Lyedarith

Lyedarith's hide is a blue that's as dark as the sky at midnight. (or so Aoki likes to say) He's rather quiet for a dragon, but he shares Aoki's somewhat sarcastic humor. He keeps a lot to himself and Aoki often finds that she has to poke and prod at him to get information. More than anything, Lyedarith wants to be a good search dragon and is constantly keeping a look out for potential candidates.

Kael

Not much is yet known about Kael. Unlike Lyedarith, Kael's hide is a pale blue. One might be tempted to say that if Lyedarith's hide is like the midnight sky, Kael's is like the sun at noon. Aoki couldn't be happier about the addition.

Scrapbook

On the bookshelf is a book bound in green hide. The word "Scrapbook" is written down the binding in white lettering. Inside are pictures and text of things that have happened in the past.

A letter from the night Valar was born:

My Dear Blue Rider,

I'm sorry to run off like this. I tried to wake you but you were out cold. I'm sure I'll find you sometime in the future. Fort Weyr isn't that big. One way or another I have to find you. I want to know your name afterall.

You may not recall, but you weren't able to tell me your name. I know for a fact that you are not our dear Weyrwoman Tolara as you tried to tell me... and seeing as how you have a dragon you couldn't be the Lady of Fort Weyr... seeing as you didn't know her real name. I also know you're not R'ign... I do recall the Weyrling Master.

I've been called away this morning and I'm not sure when I'll be back. I'll find you when I return.

So until we meet again,
I'xous
(Or the "very fine brown rider in the fourth wing" as you called me.)

Aoki's Journal

Entry #1

Lyedarith and I went out on search again. We've yet to find any one who might have a shot. After things calm down around Fort Weyr we'll probably head out to the Harper Hall to see if there are any likely candidates there.

It's been insanity here. Benden Weyr had an earthquake and the Weyr is collapsed. Lyedarith and I are on our way to see if we can help out. I'll add more once I get back in.

As Always,
Aoki

Aoki awoke and stretched. The days had passed so quickly it seemed. She shook her head and climbed out of her nice warm bed. A frown crossed her face, why was she doing that again? After breakfast she'd climbed back into bed for a quick nap and then all of a sudden she was awake...

Mine...

Aoki looked up to see Lyedarith staring at the little pot by the hearth. A while ago she'd been lucky enough to secure a flit of her own. It's egg was safely tucked away in a pot sitting beside the fire. The pot was randomly shaking every few seconds.

She hurried to the pot and carefully upended it. The tiny egg was twitching just as Lyedarith's had. Aoki's mind snapped back into action. She needed meat. The remains of her breakfast were still sitting on the table. Aoki was glad that she'd opted for more than klah this morning.

Grabbing the plate of scraps Aoki awaited the hatching anxiously. Suddenly the little shell cracked down the center. Aoki scooped the blue hatchling up in her hands. Unlike Lyedarith, the little blue flit was a pale shade of blue-grey.

She started to feed the ravenous flit. As quickly as she picked up the scraps of meat, the blue flit grabbed them out of her fingers. Just as she began to fear she'd run out of scraps, the flit settled into the crook of her arm with a croon.

"So what do I name him?" Aoki murmured gazing down at the sleeping flit, "I think I'll call you Kael."

Kael is a good name.

Kael opened an eye lazily and cheeped his agreement as well. Then he fell back asleep. Aoki smiled. For the longest time she hadn't wanted a flit, but now she was glad that she'd gotten one.

Aoki waited as Lyedarith passed her message on to Kerth and Xaith. She looked down at the note in her hand and smiled. She grabbed her scrapbook off the shelf on the bookcase and brought it over to the table. Then she added the note to the other things in the book. This was definately something to remember.

Kael started to croon and Aoki started to feel bad. He had curled up in a discarded skirt that she'd tossed aside the morning before. A plate of meat was sitting wating for her and she had the strange feeling a kind brown rider had it sent up for her. She quickly scooped up the blue Kael and started to feed him.

Aoki's Journal

Entry #2

Things around the Weyr have been... well I don't think quiet is quite the word... the word quiet could never describe a Weyr. It just seems that things have been going slowly for me. I haven't seen K'elt or G'dor in quite some time. I see Gail and R'ign some. I think most of the weyrlings are afraid of me. I tried talking to some a while back and i think it unnerved them.

I'm just being down. There's a gather soon it'll help lift my spirits I'm sure.

As Always,
Aoki

Aoki stumbled back into the weyr long after the sun had set. After crashing into some random young man and retrieving Kael, Aoki had gone to watch the harpers play. Soon after, the gather seemed to be winding down, so Aoki had called for Lyedarith and left.

After settling Kael down on the bed, Aoki changed from her gather dress into something a little more comfortable. She realized that, once again, she hadn't seen K'elt, Gail, or G'dor. In fact she hadn't really talked to anyone besides the brief conversation she had with Tolara before the Masterharper stole her away.

Aoki sank down on the bed and stared blankly at the wall. That was so unlike her. All through her childhood, she had been a friendly child. She would go and start conversations with total strangers before she would sit alone. Lately, she had realized that she was happier alone at a table sipping klah than she had been at the gather surrounded by people.

A part of her was sad and a little lonely at this realization, but only a small part. That bothered her greatly. Aoki settled back in her bed, covering herself up in a blanket, but sleep didn't come.

Kael awoke to find the weyr empty. He looked around for his and the big one but neither were there. If the big one was gone, that meant that they were far away. Kael began to chirp angrilly to himself and went to look for his rider. He was only in the air a few wingbeats before he went between.

((Going backwards I know, but I needed to update what's going on in my weyr.))

Kael dropped another shiny thing onto his pile. He landed on the floor and cocked his head staring at the pile of shiny things that he had found. A tuning key for a harp, a small spoon, a glass figure of a green dragon, and now a metal mug were all hidden in the corner under a pillow.

Then Kael stopped and sprang into the air. There was something the matter with his.

Wrong! Wrong! No! Help!

He blinked out and went between to the Lower Caverns. Lyedarith snorted. He knew his was only asleep. It wasn't the first time that she had slept somewhere that wasn't their weyr.

Aoki slid down off Lyedarith's back on the ledge. He sat on the ledge watching dragons and their riders arrive for the feast. Aoki glanced back at the blue, "I'll only be a few minutes."

Lyedarith snorted but said nothing. Aoki rolled her eyes and grabbed her gown off the back of the chair it had been hanging on for a week. She smiled. It was the gown that she wore to the gather right after she Impressed Lyedarith. A small smile touched her lips, that was the night that she, Gail, G'dor, and K'elt had spent together.

With a sigh, she pulled her threadfall gear off and traded it for her gather dress. She ran a brush through her hair and tied it back with a ribbon. She toed off her boots and pulled her soft slippers out of the trunk at the end of her bed.

She was ready and she could practically smell the food from her weyr. Hopefully this batch wouldn't be laced with fellis. She didn't intend to get drunk and forget this celebration.
