Shinrei's family have been apart of Konoha for many decades. His family were known by many in the village for their service and dedication in protecting the village. Shinrei's parents and grandparents were ninja. His grandfather did on a mission as did his parents when he was young. His grandmother had retired from the ninja life at the time of his parents death to raise Shinrei. Though she knew she couldnt keep the ninja life style away from Shinrei, she did the only thing she could do which was teach him the ways of the shinobi and help him as much she could while the academy did its job. The teachings and training from his grandmother helped him excel in the academy and be one of the top students in his class. He did not feel the need to use his abilities to the limits for he figured it would put his friends on edge and worry about their own performance.
After graduating the academy he was placed on a squad and once the chuunin exams came up he passed on his first try and shortly after that due to his specialized abilities he was promoted to the rank of jonin and put in charge of his squad. During a time of civil war in a village on the borders of the land of fire Shinrei led his squad and one other to the front lines to deal with the small group of bandits who were organizing the whole thing. After the mission was a success and his platoon returned he was appointed with more missions that required his skills and began to more noticed and eventually was appointed the title of Sannin of Konoha.
